Update: Noooooooo my favourite soldier boy why, nooo donāt dieā¦
Honestly, this ā¬ļø what happened here is is just bad writing in my opinion. There was no apparent reason for that to happen, I like him too much to think otherwise
Just started watching and oh f*ck, my favorite sexy soldiers are still alive. Now I suddenly canāt stop caring about this, Iām stressed about them survivingā¦.
I liked it a bit less, than I thought I would. But that's probably because I got too excited while waiting for the release, and my energy was too much compared to what the drama offered. Nonetheless I quite enjoyed it. I was expecting to fall in love with the characters of Deuk Pal/Yi Heon and Se Kyung, surprisingly at the end I realized that Jae Min became my favourite character through the course of the series. All actors did a really good job, especially the one playing Jae Min (since as far as i know, this was his debut drama). Anothet characters that stole my heart were the gangsters. Especially Dong Soo (because I like Won Taemin), but they together were an excellent pairing lol. I have some issues with the ending of this drama though. It felt rushed, they should have devoted more time to the conclusion of the series. Except the fate of the main characters, I would have liked to know what happened to Jae Min and other supporting characters after the time skip. I t would have been nice to show Dong Soo and Jeong Cheol instead of just mentioning them, but those are just my small wishes. Also I feel conflicted about the way the soul exchange issue was resolved. I don't really agree with how they decided to arrange it. Another smaller issue lays in the portrayal of abuse and mental illness, It was mostly good but with a weak conclusion.
Please note that all of my opinions here are strictly about the drama, I didnāt read the original novel and donāt know how much the story and the characters are different there (saying this because I do suspect that Jae Min was much worse of a guy in the novel than in the drama (from my experience novels/webtoons often have many characters with extreme personalities), and since I named him one of my favorite characters I wanted to clarify). I know that the source material is a BL story, and I recognize the issue with the erasure of the BL plot. However this doesnāt make the rest of the storyline bad ā> the drama is not bad in itself, itās like⦠average good, and fun short series.
I generally liked this, it delivered what I expected from it so I was almost fully satisfied. I just wished the bromance would have started earlier than after half of the movie (since the actors had good chemistry). Also, to be honest the police detectives (including the main character) seemed kinda stupid sometimes⦠anyway, I usually donāt watch Korean movies older than from 2015-2016 because itās harder to find them in good quality with subs, but I definitely noticed the differences in direction of the plot. For some it might be too slow, or not enough action scenes (especially compared to the newest movies about crime etc) but I think you just have to acknowledge that it's going to be like that (and if you don't like it, then don't watch), moreover I thing the point of this movie lies in something else. The acting was good/decent. The child actors did really good job. Kim Bum of course, was good as well. The killer wasnāt creepy enough, but that might be just my preference.
He did so well in āHigh school return of a Gangsterā Iām amazed!! And he seemed so cute too, I will be watching any dramas with him in the future!
