Season 2 covered only 100 chapters. But they picked some arcs here and there and make other arcs unknown in the novel. It was a mess. Plain and simple. S3 has to cover around 400 chapters. I wished they stuck to the story and added a S4 even S5. Considering the mega success S1 had, I am surprised they announced only a trilogy.

The magic of S1 was gone and no more wow factor. He lost his chance. He had 5 years to create another masterpiece and he missed it.
746 chapters, almost 5800 pages with tons of important events that can be understood only chronologically. Yet they went all over the place in S2. The bidding was in the Ming family story (almost 70-80 chapters) condensed in 2 episodes with 2 characters when the number of the story involved over at least 50 with fights, deaths.
The tyrannical zhenzi is part of who fan Xian is and they almost deleted it. He lost his zhenqi after his fight with the shadow, is severely injured… yet he recovered with no explanation but duoduo giving him a book. Everything was rushed. Many scenes unnecessary added.
I am glad that the fans who did not read the novel loved it. I am truly happy for them. But for us who read the story and know how complex and intense each chapter was, it is frustrating. The story deserved so much more. It has all the elements.
I have very little hopes about S3. I can picture it with half the budget needed and I am not biting my nails waiting for S3 as much as I did for S2. My opinion is not optimistic. If they copy the same style of edits. My deception is huge because for me S1 was my ultimate favorite drama. Meh

S2 was like “Let's pick this puzzle piece here and forced fit it here… oh look I found another one from another scene, lets mixed it here”. Hey guys! Do you think we could remove 100+ chapters and comdense it in 2 episodes with no actions, 6 people to reduce budget? (Ming). I do not think her story was and will be well explained. They changed already her age to teenager when she escaped. I am not even sure that FX will visit the Divine Temple.
Considering all the major changes and arcs removed, it is in my mind quite impossible to follow the novel arc now in S3.
