I think "vegetarian" is the machine translation code for not doing something. I remember in the novel behind Unchained Love the enuch-woman couples were called "vegetarian couples". Just my interpretation, though...

I've heard that they increased her part compared to the novel so some things may be different. I just hope this isn't the usual annoying-SFL-who-cannot-die trope that continues until the last agonising episode.

I was a bit disappointed with him in that scene. I prefer my MLs with a bit more "bite". He feels like a wet blanket 😩

Almost all the background scenery looked so incredibly fake that it was a shock to the eyes.
It doesn't bother me, though, because the story is good and the acting is good.
Even a perfect CGI couldn't keep my interest if the story was boring or abstruse (there's been a few dramas like that, lately).

Frankly, after watching ep. 10 I get the feeling he knows already and he is playing with her. There were two situations where he quite openly provoked her by mentioning the Di family to see her reaction...

For me the biggest turn-off in the first episode was that Anle stayed in "silly character" for the whole episode. Whereas this persona is amusing in small portions, I couldn't have taken another complete episode of this.
The drama gets interesting the moment she starts switching between sillyness and seriousness.
I grew up with 70s-style fantasy dramas, so I can totally ignore bad CGI 😂

I've seen that quite often, when screen-writers "get creative" to add things to otherwise decent novel material, these scenes very often stick out like a sore thumb.
It is normal that some things need to be modified as the story-telling in drama is different from that of a novel, but a lot of these script-writers take too many liberties. If they think their brain-farts are that awesome, why don't they write their own novel?

I see. I haven't read the novel, but I can say from experience, that the complexity of novel characters, especially if they have a slightly "grey" side, hardly ever make it into the drama version.
Sadly, C-dramas like their MLs whiter than white. I still remember one ruthless and imposing Xiao Duo who ended up as a puppy dog in Unchained love.
But I hope against reason that you are right and for once we get to see a great scheming ML.

It's quite clear that he is not as simple as he appears to be. Whether he has the teeth to follow up on his ambitions remains to be seen...
As for the "BEST male lead character" - that sounds very much like the exaggeration of a die-hard fan, especially before we've even seen a third of the drama. While tastes are different, quite a few iconic figures come my mind... for instance Ning Yi of TROP is one tough cookie to beat.

Aaargh, why can't we get any proper kissing scene in a bit drama anymore??

Loved the double-entendre with the spying eunuch, though. It's quite impressive that they got away with this!
