We also don’t know if there are any clauses that would prohibit him from working immediately after the contract ends. These agency contracts tend to have some strange rules and his agency will try to milk his work as long as they possibly can. As far as I have seen, he is the only artist they have who gets any decent roles that bring in money.

What I find peculiar is that there was a bit of promotion with the Qixi pics and a few articles on entertainment websites, but it all has suddenly stopped. Still, I saw another melon yesterday saying that it would air after Love’s Rebellion.

I don’t think his retirement from acting is final.
He said in the interview that he gave for the promotion of Burning Flames that he would like to try his hand at directing or be a producer or an actor again after his break. There will certainly be a change away from the idol dramas that his agency forced him to do, but first he needs to break free from them and right now, nobody seems to know how long that will take.
Yes, the dubbing is really a waste of that grand voice, but again, I don’t think that he had much choice in that.

The romance starts pretty early as pretend romance because they have to play a couple (which is hilarious) and moves on from there.

Yeah, what’s the deal with that one? I never saw any news that it had been shelved for one reason or another, they just somehow “forgot” about it. At least with Jeremy’s shelved drama ‘Braveness of the Ming’ we know the reason why it got canned.
The sad thing is that every actor/actress who’s been around for a while has at least one drama that never aired. It must be so frustrating to put in all that work and then see nothing come of it.

Yes, there were other rumours (before tHey all started talking about early September) that suggested it would come for 1st October which would be a very good moment because it’s a holiday in China (National Day). So let’s keep praying that everything goes smoothly 🙏

My impression is that they launched the promotion campaign (articles, posts, clips, etc) at the end of July expecting to get the licence soon and then they may have been told stuff needs to be changed. Right now all the buzz has gone really quiet and to me this seems to be the only reasonable explanation. There seem to be no recent updates and September is only a week away.
I find this really worrying…

Only provided it will have obtained a broadcasting licence by then. So far I have not seen any news on this…
I find it a bit strange that many dramas that were wrapped much later than this one have already received theirs.

Yes, it is very deplorable in my view that people seem no longer able to separate the artist from his work. Many famous artists were not very nice human beings and even the nice ones can make stupid mistakes. As long as there is nothing criminal (of which I’m not sure in this particular case) people should go easy on the moral judgement. If only half of what is alleged about Zhang Haowei is true then he is truly a very unpleasant person, but that is no reason to cancel any of his dramas. Personally, I think him being a mediocre and un charismatic actor is reason enough to stop me watching anything where he is the ML, but some people don’t seem to mind.
While China goes to the extreme in applying a sort of collective punishment by cancelling complete dramas because of one person, the West isn’t far behind. Just look at the witch-hunt against Kevin Spacey. We sadly live in an era of shit-storms and cancel-culture.

I feel your disappointment. There are, however, still many works that you can check out to see more of him.
And, we still have three dramas (1 role as SML and two guest appearances) to look forward to.

And it’s not just soliciting but suggesting to actively run a prostitution ring. The leaks showed screenshots of his chats with very thinly veiled references to his projects.
Even if he and his company are still denying things, I think it will be very hard for him to wiggle out of this one.

Lately, even large parts of the audience seem to grow tired of the endless stream of talentless, clone-like pretty boys, but it will take a long time until the investors see the light..

I really hate it when they remove anything that makes the character of a novel to replace it with the usual worn-out tropes that we’ve seen a hundred times already.

The original novel has many points that could raise a red flag (such as a very “dark-grey” ML and the forced removal of the emperor, to name just two). I am sure they have considered this in the script, but as there are no exact rules about what is allowed and what not, they may have tried to test what they can get away with in order to preserve as much as possible of the original material.
This is, of course, just my speculation.

Any actress of appropriate age and act8ng skills will be fine. I’m sick of seeing I’m on diaper-changing duty in his recent dramas.
Right now, he is enjoying his time away from acting and nobody knows if and when he will return to it, so you may have to hold on to your wish for a while.
On the bright side, Tan Song Yun will have a drama coming out with Zheng Yecheng, he’s not bad either…

I know it’s good practice, but I hate seeing him wasted in these short length dramas with the ludicrous plots. Other numpties start their @ct8ng careers with lead roles despite a complete lack of experience or talent.
