Yes, the thing with Cui Liang is only hinted at, but I think that’s what happened. He always had a soft spot for her from the start, but for her it was only a brotherly relationship.

SML poisons FL to make sure she doesn’t run away, but he never tries to kill her because he needs her alive to identify a person for him.

The “thing” between FL and SML was never explicit. I think she had budding feelings for him at one moment when he was sick and the SML definitely fell for her. The way the novel is written, over the first 30 or so chapters, you will think the SML IS the ML with the typical teasing and bickering. The SML makes an ill-judged move on her when she tells him that she is leaving (he panics) and she hates him for it.
When the SML learns of their relationship he warns the FL that the ML’s situation is complicated and her happiness may not last. He is heartbroken and crushes an innocent porcelain cup, but he doesn’t do anything to come between them. He has no other love interest in the novel. His mother makes him marry a concubine for tactical reasons, but he dislikes that woman (chokes her a few times…)

It’s the “must have” item for any respectable drama 😂😂😂
But it’s fine, I like his singing.

Yes, the novel is BE, but not in a bad way (if that makes any sense at all). She accepts that he has to do what he has to do and treasures the moments she gets to spend with him even if she doesn’t know what the future will bring.
I actually hope they won’t change the ending because it would take away a lot of the tragic beauty of the story. Sorry, AR-fans…
