Title Mr. Back Spoiler
Not the drama I remembered. Must have watched it at the same time as the Greatest Marriage or Oh my God for some reason I thought they were in the TV industry.
First episodes were ok until 7 or 8, full Korean comedy than the tone drastically changed and starting episodes 12 it’s just boring. I wasn’t impressed by the end even if they struggled to bounce on their feet.
I don’t know which great casting director thought that Shin HaKyun could pass for 34 in 2014, the guy clearly looked his age: 40 which makes that story even creepier next to Jang Nala who was looking 25 to 28 max. Shin HaKyun had a great smile (amazing body during the pretend naked scenes) he could have done a nice father figure but as love interest for a young woman hell no. The fact that they made his character goes after the woman even after he knew his son liked her, showed what a crappy father he portrayed and a horrible, selfish lover. In his position he had nothing to offer to a young woman. He should have giving up and build more a father-daughter relationship especially as he knew her deceased father. There is always a thin line between cute and ridiculous and to me the relation between the leads was ridiculous and childish. I heard he did work a lot, did not like the mother of his son but common a guy in his 70 acting like he is discovering relationship like a 15-year-old it’s ridiculous. How can they struggle to make mature believable relationship. Either it’s dry like stale bread or the couple is bickering all the time. The father and son relation even after they made up was not compelling to me, him starting singing lullabies at night to a 30-year dude…come on. Just stupid!
It was a great idea to cast Jeon Gookhwan as his brother they have a little something that made it believe but they should had switch between is wife and his sister. It would had made a more harmonious trio.
After painfully catching up with this drama I understand why my memory fully erased it.
There were way better dramas made in 2014. This one is bad.

Still 2 episodes to go but lord that drama is so bland. No savor…pretty useless and boring drama. They didn’t even take avantage of the beautiful scenery like in Azure spring. Shin YeEun deserves better!!! Way better!

Going back to the oldies love that area of kdramas and Jang Nala.
No vilains. No race to take over a conglomerate. No amnesia. No car accident. No overbearing parents. The story is quite simple but I really like this 18 hour journey

I am afraid in Asia it isn’t as procedural as in Europe for example. I know for rental those kind of scams are real 😬

According to whom? Basically you are saying that content that primarily target women have to be stupid, badly produced…think whatever you want. I strongly doubt that all women are in agreement and reduce themselves to stupidity

I’m watching and it says 16
Ok. Maybe I didn’t hear properly.
As it’s 2003 it should be Korean age that would makes her 14 in international age…I have a really hard time to imagine people thinking it’s fine and even funny to have a comedy with a forced marriage with a teenager…(age of consent in Korea it’s 16 (international age) a minor can have intercourse with someone below 18 and at 18 be with an adult. I believe parents can give consent for their child starting 14 but I thought that other party needed to be a minor too)

Maybe it still doesn’t look like a good quality drama. The acting is mediocre, the characters are very cliché even on a technical standpoint it’s full of flaws

I was curious as Hulu picked up this show but the cast looked weak to me and the storyline very thin…This remembers me so far Love Phobia earlier this year. Poor cast, poor storyline and poor execution.
Sound effects are pretty annoying, editing is not premium…😬😬

It isn’t the drama I recalled. I knew I saw a bit back then as the green tracksuits and that garage were engraved in my memory.
But Last 20 episodes were pretty boring. Lot of screaming, ugly crying, some characters were pretty despicable, older sister had a pitiful storyline, too many things were not making sense at all…I finished it only for the 2 leads! Their story was the most appealing part, but family dynamics were old-fashioned, toxic and chaotic.

I totally agree those scripts are full of misogynistic values and deprive women way too often of agency. When they…
Not every women like romance. Some women can like romance regardless of the values that the genre displays. Many women have also internalized misogyny, otherwise conservatism would not be that high right now…that observation doesn’t remove them agency.
If you don’t get why putting marriage and traditional relationships first serve patriarchy you don’t get it. If you want to believe it’s my personal observation and conclusion you can too. Maybe you never read economics studies on the topic or whatsoever. Because nowhere in the world marriage has been invented with for ever love in mind, it’s an economic and social trade especially in East
Asian Countries. Concerning those other tropes that you believe are in favour of women because several men are after the woman. That is more a man fantasy about proven their own strength, value by fighting another suitor. And I would repeat myself again a reference to the animal kingdom. Is it really the woman who chooses or the man who defeats the other(s) that wins? Women being the main character of the story doesn’t have a big interest because they rarely have agency. Their are bound by family obligations, social expectations…Stories move when men are ok, ready, willing to. When women
confess first they get rejected…no story where women are focused on getting a man pass the Bechsdel test.
those stories advantage mostly passive women.
Anyone can love and crave for those stories everybody do whatever they want. I do not care to convince you (or anyone) of anything, anyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, judgement. I don’t comment over on comments I disagree with for that reason. Maybe I wasn’t
clear enough before I didn’t ask to be dragged in that pointless debate. So STOP mentioning me and keep on with people who want to.

I am not taking part to the conversation you believe. I replied to someone else’s comment about position, power between male and female in fantasy romance.
You might confuse me with somebody else.
Thinking that a product target female audience and therefore serves women’s interests is a naive observation. Rarely things are really done with women ´ interest in mind. For example Women razors have been invented for Women but don’t serve any women’s interest. Contraception, women carry the burden when men are the major source of risk. Those tropes by their repetition are designed to keep women in check and maintain patriarchal values. The fact marriage for example takes such huge part in those stories is already a blatant evidence of patriarchy. In the context of Korea at first those romantic stories were liberating for women, allowing them to get access to reading and Hangul, providing entertainment but with time that literature has become to a certain extent a form of oppression as they mostly promote conservatism, modesty, status quo. Women that consume them either don’t have the tool to interpret clearly what they are reading/watching,
or are themselves traditional/conservative women and/or individuals who have
internalized misogyny …it’s without surprise places that are the more conservatives where those stories are the most popular.
Believing that observation is pure imagination is completely ignoring the different tools that exist such as the Bechdel test.
But again we aren’t taking part to the
same conversation so those exchanges are mute.

I replied to a comment on a specific subject, with a specific angle. the author of the comment and nor myself said misogyny was the only motivation of those tropes. Stating something that wasn’t said in order to discredit is already not an honest thought process.
Creation is a product of social and political environment, beliefs and knowledge thinking that people write fantasies, fictions without any ground or agenda it’s complete nonsense. Things aren’t created ex nihilo of everything.
Photography, music, literacy, film…are studied and interpreted with those elements in mind and the technics.
You can go on and on you are not gonna make me aligned with your opinion.
