I thought the romance between mao and the brother are good after the awkward phase because she saw him as a brother first. I have this impression of mao as a free spirit, so to me she wouldn't care about societal pressure of her being a single mom and just do what she wants just like her first marriage and her divorce. What i notice is there's no parents in her life, and she adopt the mai's family as her own family, so i wonder what happen to her family since we were never introduce to them.

Did you say fl was more into her ex? Fl was alway embarrassed to show any intimacy around her ex in public space, and always got mad at him and he alway has to apologized, but when it comes to ml she actively initiated their first kiss, or her wearing a sunflower hat and dance for ml when he was upset to get him to smile. She was waiting for him outside his room the whole night after his father died just so she could be there for him. You must be skipping a lot of their romantic scenes if that is the only thing you came up with. Also grandma plan all along was for him to find a family to adopt him so she got her wish, and yzm got his wish of finally belongs to a family. This is a family drama, romance between main leads are understated but still give you butterfly feeling asking for more.

No his father change for the better. The relationship between main leads and second leads are good, they didn't have any major misunderstanding and were always supportive of each other. It's family drama and the romance is not the focus but still important.

Yeah agree there was no need to kill off the father, i got a premonition when mch's father was telling yzm he regretted not speaking to his father when he gotten ill because of his embarrassment about his father married so late in his life. Yzm loss the last remaining family member and it was really sad how the father and him was about to reconcile their differences. It was really unfair to yzm. I think this is to show in life there's rarely a second chance so grab it while you can.

I didn't see any guilt tripping, other then a depressed mother who see no value in her own important any longer, since her children have grown up and don't need her any longer. She left so she wouldn't be a burden on them to care for her while she's sick. I think cancer is a serious illness, those who has gone through with such an illness or had a diagnosis would understand better the mom and her fear of going for treatment since she afraid she won't make it as she has nothing to live for any longer. The daughter in order to give her mother a reason to live finally understood her mother and their bond became stronger as a result. The mother is less meddling and can finally enjoy her own life, what i got out of this drama is the idea of being a family and being independent, this is what mch learned from her grandma when she was still alive.

I understand that, it just is seemed to me the daughter has moved on and forgave her mom, but the people in the comment can't seem to get that, and kept bringing it up to hate on the mom. This drama is an example of a mother and daughter conflict that we can somewhat relate about a mother and daughter's journey of growth and their love for each other.

What is toxic behavior, in life people makes mistakes and they learn and make amend. So the mother made a mistake and she apologized to her daughter and eventually becomes much more relax and accepting. Family is like that, many times you don't get along with each other or not see eye to eye, but eventually you learn to forgive and move on to become better because at the end of the day we value the people in our lives because they're family, no matter what they had done to us in the past, we look past their faults and accept them for their shortcomings, just as we would like those people in our lives to also accept our shortcomings.

Mature romance as in both of the main leads are in their 30s, have career of their own and the relationship will ultimately leads to marriage. In this relationship they both are not in a rush to get marry because they're not tie to conventional means that is force on them by society, they're not pressure to get marry and are comfortable with the way they're in their relationship. Also i don't mean mature romance as being explicit or sexual since this drama is aired on tv in china so it would be censor if it has any mature contents that are not fit for viewers. The most explicit we have so far is of that kiss mch and yzm had on the bus or that time when yzm sneak into mch room wearing only a sheet because her mother took all his clothes, both of them were being playful and we get the sense they already at that stage of the relationship even if was just implied.

I don't agree with you, yzm was already attached to the mai family before his father came into the picture. Yzm wouldn't have anything to do with him if not for mch and her family encouraging him to give his father another chance to prove to him that he has changed. Mch's dad told him that he always regretted not having a chance to say good bye to his father because of his embarrassment about his dad married later in life to ml's grandmother. He told ml to make peace with his father before it's too late, mch let his father lived at her hotel without paying and got him to have lunch with his father, the mother even asked the dad to come and have dinner with them, and told him to respect his child choice and trying to understand him. Things only improve with yzm and his dad only because of the mai's family help, if they didn't interfere i doubt yzm would even let his father get near him, he would pack his dad on the next flight as soon as possible.

This drama is a mature romance, the main leads both have career and both are bosses who are responsible for a number of people. Also in term of promotion, i don't see any promotion that would consider it as anything but a family drama even the posters that were used for promotion of this dram have the fl's parents, brother and best friend beside the ml as well as the trailers that were released.

Yes i did see, and we saw them being worried for her and looking for her, but you also forgot she got a diagnosis for an illness that she was afraid to go for treatment because she was too scare to face it head on so she left on her own thinking it's best not to burden her family. In term of being selfish, she has been focused on her family her whole life, now that she got older she is depressed and didn't have anything to look forward to being the treatment is not something everyone can go through if they don't have anything to live for since her children all grown and she think they don't need her anymore. Also there was a dialogue of the husband saying to his wife if he get cancer, he will not go through with treatment and he said his wife must've misunderstood him and thinking he meant it for her not go through with treatment. This is a journey of growth for both the mother and daughter, mch trying to give her mother a reason to want to hold on to life because cancer is a serious illness, only those who are strong enough and willing to fight it can go on living, so she makes it possible for her mother to want to fight for her life by giving her what she always wanted to sing opera in front of audiences again and showing her that even though both of them are grown, they will not abandon her in her old age.

Kind of funny that lots of viewers got out of this is how selfish the mother was when her decision to leave and suffer in silent was unselfish, she was depressed about her illness and didn't want her husband and children to have to take care of her while she was sick, not thinking she would make them worry even more. The many time she told them to leave and go back to work showed she understand she was a burden to them and didn't want to make herself a burden to her family.

Agree, i was salivating with the salted fish dish, and i don't even love fish lol. The way they talk about this dish and the way it was made got me curious to try it myself ^^

I thought the drama ended well, mch and yzm start a hotel merger and became partners in their joint venture. This is at heart a family drama, at the end of the drama the mother finally learn to let go and live for herself as i think this is what this drama is addressing the emotional bond between the mother and daughter that most viewers can relate to.

I like the last 3 eps, true it has lots of focus on the mother, but i think the drama has always put the mother and daughter relationship as the main focus, and i'm glad to see mch finally understand her mother after coming to her mother's hometown and i like that yzm was alway supportive of her and how they both always have each other back, him helping her to give her mother a chance to fulfill her lifelong dream and her cooking for her mother just gives us the warm of family.

Lots of haters hating on the mom and expecting more romance i suppose, as well as xukai and yangzi haters.

I doubt another ml could play yzm's character like xukai can. Kind of weird to drag on an actor and complain about him in this drama when the drama didn't even have the romance as the center and most viewers like their chemistry your opinion not withstanding.

Are you for real, he's not a bad actor, did you watch him in arsenal military academy, once upon a time in lingjian mountain, dance of the sky empire, court lady etc. where his characters are much more expressive. He's a very good actor who is very good at emotional portrayal. I love him in sahph with yangmi because he was able to portray an introverted character who is kind of nerdy, so different from his character in bce. Both xukai and yangzi are great in bce and by complaining about his acting in bce you didn't watch this drama right, he was especially moving when he was grieving for his grandmother and dad in in bce.
