It's a happy ending just depending on whom you ship fl with, the emperor or fuca fuheng. If with emperor than it's a happy ending, she was able to climb to the highest position starting out as a maid. It's a very good harem drama in my opinion, try watching a few eps to see if it's for you.

I'm not sure how calling it bromance will get this drama investigated. How many dramas have that elements, lots of wuxias also have bromance as main themes like the one that was aired with cheng zi called lotus case book with three male leads or the blood of youth and the sequels. Just like xukai when he was in story of yanxi palace as fuca fuheng and the fl is also wu jin yan. How different is this drama from story of yanxi palace? I'm getting curious as i heard this is another revenge drama, it's right up her alley.

That's fine if you don't share the same opinion as those who like this drama. I didn't like harem drama but i was able to watch this drama to the end, and it was able to keep my interest. About the queen and her best friend, it was tragic what happened to them, they both committed suicide so the fl is not at faults for their deaths. And the reason she didn't seek revenge on the second queen, she has a part to play but she was not directly responsible for the queen death, and she was kind to the fl in their first meeting. She did get her revenge to those who deserved it, and the king's brother is favored by the king so she couldn't touch him, but my theory she never forgotten him and was waiting patiently to catch him when he was out of favor. I also like the pairing of fl and fuca fuheng rather than the emperor.

You can say it's the same case with qingmu and baijue, no they're not the same person since they've different life experiences and different thought processes. It's shanggu's wish not houchi's wish, she doesn't identify herself as shanggu but an entire different person.
