Don't be discouraged by the rating. A lot of people who read the original webtoon are disappointed because it's completely different. See it as a standalone and you won't be disappointed. The comedy is great.
Is this drama worth the watch? I’ve never seen a Chinese drama where the FL likes and/or hooks up with three…
100%. This is a very realistic portrayal of a modern woman's life through all her different stages of life and maturity and personal growth. From being young, passionate and experiencing first love, studies and career and marriage, and finding a soulmate and later her greatest love of all: finding self-love.
I'm up to episode 22 now, and I can see how this drama has really good bits and also parts where the director got overly distracted by visuals and the grungy/gothic cult concept. For what it is, it would have been much better had it been cut down a lot because there are far too many scenes of people sitting about not doing anything. You could easily cut several episodes without losing any of the plot. I like slow burn, but this is more than slow, it's underedited.
A comment on Viki said it was a real shame there weren't flashbacks to when this whole thing began, and I am convinced this would have made all the difference. If this drama had two timelines with this storyline and the original impact event followed by the formation of the Nanshan hunters by the Emperor, this would have been 100% better.
As for the drama as it is, there was a real lack of sci fi effects (I would have liked to see more teeth), and I can't help but wonder whether they didn't have the budget. They could have made up for this with good acting, but I think the majority of the actors playing the humanoids did not successfully show that they were just pretending to be human.
I also think they could have added more horror scenes showing their feeding habits. It was underdone.
Anyway, it's still a good drama and I'm enjoying it, but the concept deserved so much more.
So who is the real villain, if you ask me? The Goddess. She is the one who corrupts humanity with access to the…
I know that it makes sense that the cherry blossom isn't on her before she goes back in time, but I think there could have been room for a sweet scene after she comes back revealing the cherry blossom.
However, on that note, you're so right about the chicken egg issues with the time travel. There were also writing inconsistencies there where sometimes Xiaoyao had no memories, and other times, she knew things and behaved like she wasn't modern day Xiaoyao. It was an interesting concept, but the execution was a bit sloppy at times.
I think I would have preferred an observational situation that involved Hongye. The opportunity for his enlightenment and processing it all would have been sooo much more interesting.
Also, the ancient demons coming back was such a missed opportunity, and used as a very obvious plot device. Forcing her to go back in time again when she had just got back. Lazy writing there. And as soon as they've done that, the writer kills them off.
If you ask me, it would have been better to have them pick up the shards unscathed and taken the lesson with them to become a part of the new world. Bingzhu absorbing their power was unrealistic and pointless.
I don't think it's haters at all, I think it's largely the ending and people have some complaints about the drama…
I always think it's a shame when people only watch HE and downrate dramas with SE. Although the majority of C dramas have HEs, some of the best dramas have SE, and sometimes a SE is the best and most logical ending.
In this drama, I really liked the final arc where they showed how they first met and what started this whole tapestry of cause and effect, but I think it could have been even better if Hong Ye had gone back as well to fully experience his own karma.
But that final episode, especially when they went into the spring just felt like it didn't really accomplish anything. I wouldn't mind if it was sad, I just don't think the ending for this drama was logical.
There is no chemistry between the leads. Such a wasted production and premise, to be honest.
I agree. They have a very sweet relationship and some very moving parts, but that tension and attraction is really missing. Usually Tan Songyun is pretty bold with kissing scenes etc, but the kisses in this drama were the tamest ones I've seen in a long time.
It's a bit too low now imo. It was 8.1 a couple of days ago which I think was a fair rating. MDL dramas are usually 8.1-8.3 when they're good but not great, and under 8 they're disappointing, and once it hits 7.5 or lower it's not worth watching lol. But these factors can also be influenced by endings and idols. Some dramas are overrated because of an idol fan base. Some even create fake accounts to manipulate the rating. But when you have idols like Hou Minghao and Tan Songyun, it's usually a problem with the ending. People can't stand endings that aren't Disney happy. Sometimes a sad ending is the perfect and logical ending. But in this drama, it felt disappointing and unsatisfying.
Because more and more people are finishing it and then giving their rating. Others like me wait until the drama…
I was also struggling between ep 10 and 20 ish, but the second half was my favourite, and had some really unexpected twists, but the ending was a bit disappointing. However, I still enjoyed it overall.
But the first two scenes weren't a good start. I liked it more after that.
