Perhaps it's because there are some seriously RIDICULOUS viewers out there who think Feng Shaofeng is "sooooo old". He's 44, and honestly, he looks really good for his age. I know men in their 20s and early 30s who look older than him. I hope anyone who is bashing this show for that reason gets a face full of wrinkles, grey hair and balding long before they are 44. So fricking ageist. Can we not have some range in our dramas? Or does EVERY lead have to be under 25? Give me a break. Because Chinese culture is only merit based if you're not the elite... Getting jobs through connections and using your family's influence is pretty common. Wu Fei is the elite. She can have whatever she wants and get whatever job she wants cause she's a spoiled princess and the lawfirm wants to take advantage of her family and their connections.

There are a few dramas with more authentic costumes for their period like Story of Yanxi Palace (Qing Dynasty) and Court Lady (Tang Dynasty) or Longest Day in Chang'an (also Tang Dynasty), but they are very different types of drama from this one. Authentic makeup almost never happens, but you can see that in the last two dramas with white faces and red cheeks.
This drama has a lot of laugh out loud moments and wholesome themes. It's no cinematic masterpiece and intellectually "light", but an enjoyable watch for sure. For those who can't stand fluffy dramas, this is tolerable on the fluff scale.
