I have adjusted my expectations after the second episode and accepted that this is going to be an inferior product compared to the pre-episodes. Those were clearly made by a different team.
So now I'm prepared to watch a regular Thai romcom, complete with irritating co-workers cracking crass jokes. Thankfully the leads still have chemistry and I'm hoping they can keep this afloat.
I have no idea why I'm watching this. There are more characters than I can keep track of. Half the runtime is spent on random people doing random things. I guess I'm shallow enough to keep watching for the pretty boys. One thing in the show I do like is that all the boys are the decent, shy type. No playboys here. Just boys next door dealing with their attraction to each other. Now if only they get more screentime than the random neighborhood kids π
The skinship! Whew! Double Whew!! Uea is one seductive minx π₯΅ King never had a chance, did he? π
That scene of King smoking in the balcony and Uea watching him - Uea's face says he wants a connection more than just sex but can't hope to have that with King. Poor boy has one more trauma of being molested and that too by a father figure. I wish they hadn't shown such a young child being molested, it left a bad taste in the mouth for the rest of the episode. Though King's concern for Uea's condition and his apology the next day was really sweet (even though he had done nothing to apologise for).
King isn't playing around anymore and openly showing Uea his feelings, be it jealousy or concern or wanting more than just a FWB arrangement. Uea is doing the complete opposite - he too has feelings for King now but is hiding them behind a poker face. He has been through too much to open his heart easily. King has his work cut out and I look forward to seeing him pass with flying colours, beginning with beating the hell out of Uea's ex next episode π‘
PS. Why are all of King and Uea's colleagues so irritating? Especially those two women employees. They bring nothing to the show except crassness ππ»
First time watching ForceBook. They're super cute no doubt and coz they are playing very different characters, I am not having any trouble telling them apart (which I did in the trailer). Force especially looks sharp in those well fitted business suits ππ»
What's not working for me is Cher. He is borderline obnoxious in his behavior at workplace. If they were going for 'adorable goofball' then this ain't it. It's a good thing Boss is his fan already or he would have been kicked out by now. Forcing someone to change his food tastes because....you want him to? π€·π»ββοΈ
It's interesting the way those ladies at the coffee shop advised Cher to not get close to Boss (implying he is gay) though I didn't really get Cher's reply of 'eating and getting eaten'. I get what eating means in BL shows but didn't get the context here.
I'll tune in next week coz there's chemistry there and that's the most important thing for me in any kind of romance. But I hope Cher calms down and becomes bearable in his constantly-out-of-the-line antics.
I had prepared myself for a bitter sweet ending for some of our boys but to see ALL of them get a happy ending is making my heart burst! We leave all of them at a place where they are at peace with themselves and their relationships (even LiMing's mother and Heart's parents). Some have finally settled down, some have moved on to a better beginning.
A big fat THANKS to P'Aof for making something so complex without any of it being at all convulated. Characters made mistakes, learnt from them, grew up, and moved on. And the little community stayed strong throughout these upheavals β€
P'Aof keeps getting better with every show he makes. His BLs are always something more than just BLs. Now I'm looking forward to him create magic with The Last Twilight π€π»
This was mostly a recap of the pre-episodes. I felt it lacked the emotional punch the pre-episodes had. Nan's video message and Phu's reaction to it was the most beautiful part of the pre-episodes but here it became an email which took away the impact. Also, Phu's sudden disappearance isn't explained, nor the fact that Nan went to Melbourne every year to look for him. It doesn't make sense the Nan looked for Phu everywhere but didn't get in touch with his Granny with whom Phu had lived after his father's death. The pocket watch was also done away with.
I am glad I watched the pre-episodes and am already invested in this relationship. If I had watched only this episode, maybe I wouldn't have been. Hope it improves from here.
This was so good! I love Ji-Yu, the cute foodie and functioning alcoholic. He is such a Pixie! And Ki-Hoon keeps growing on me every minute. There's so much sweet chemistry here π₯° And the height difference!
I was wary of this being from the same team as Individual Circumstances but this one is so much better written and acted. And so many pretty boys! π
Ki-Hoon already likes Ji-Yu (though he is fighting it). I look forward to seeing the Pixie make a nuisance of himself to get Ki-Hoon to agree to the contract π
I was curious about this one as it's from the makers of Ai Long Nhai. And it is very much like ALN - wonky writing, amateur direction, atrocious subtitles! ALN was hard carried by Mean-Ping's good looks and decent acting skills of its cast. TTJ lacks that too for the most part.
But I will still check out the second episode coz the boy who plays Tin is as cute as a button! He too is an overgrown baby like Nhai but much more sensible and down to earth. I am also a sucker for shows set in a small town neighborhood where everyone looks out for one another. The show is aiming for sweetness and innocence (so many children running around!) but it's a hit and miss as the direction and acting is really lacking. Hope it gets better going forward.
Most BLs over promise and under deliver. Thankfully Bed Friend is delivering exactly what it promised. I'm loving it! NetJames have such natural chemistry that they can carry even a shit script, but fortunately this one's script isn't shit. The characters and their motivations are well written and well acted. Some editing problems? Can't really be bothered when there is this explosive chemistry between the leads to savour.
Maybe coz yesterday's episode was so amazing, today's seemed a bit lackluster. Or maybe it was too focused on Jim and Wen and I have become more interested in Alan and Gaipa now.
Alan wearing both his and Wen's rings got me. The guy's not moved on at all. And Gaipa sitting there smiling through his heartbreak π₯ This show better give me a happy ending for them, together or separately, or P'Aof will have one angry fan on his hands!
That preview! Jim needs a bonk on the head. Is he seriously berating Ming for being what he himself is? π€¬
"Having these troubles in your 20s and 30s is bad enough, but in your 40s these troubles become much bigger. I understand that now that I have crossed 40 - there is so much to do but you realise your best years are behind you. Mid-life crises is real! Meanwhile Wen in his late 20s can afford to be carefree in matters of heart as well as work."
Jim said exactly the same thing to Wen in the flashback. He literally doesn't have the 'time' for complications at his age. I'm glad he ghosted Wen till Wen realised that he has to be honest or get lost.
My heart breaks for Alan. A 5-year old relationship ends suddenly because one has outgrown the other. I can't blame him for not being able to accept it, and can't blame Wen either for not making a clean break (though he should have moved out much earlier).
Don't get why Jim had to go to Alan for the loan though. Why rub salt in his wound? I'm ready to form a Protect-Alan squad really. So many good actors in this show but First still manages to out act everyone!
Gaipa is going to get his heart broken too but I'm not really sad about it. Gaipa is precious and deserves better than a cynical 40 year old. Let an equally cynical Wen have him. I don't know if the show will go there but I won't mind him with Alan. They are both carers and givers in relationships. They will cherish each other.
Lastly, loved Heart giving it back to his monster parents. The kids are all right, it's the adults who keep messing up. I know this is a BL but I wish it was just a bromance between Ling and Heart. These two boys bonding over the unfairness of their guardians and finding their own paths as two friends would have been more impactful than a romance between them IMO. I don't know why I feel that way about Ling and Heart. Maybe coz what they have seems to be a spritual connection. It will keep them friends for life. But romance may complicate it and they will lose this rare connection if they break up as a couple. They are only teenagers now and will most probably outgrow each other as lovers in a few years. I wouldn't have thought like this for them if it was another show. But MC is all about the consequences of love.
They are all so precious. I don't want to see any of them heartbroken. But of course that's not possible.
On paper Gaipa is the perfect partner for Jim - sweet, sensitive, supportive, someone who can make life a lot easier for Jim, and even help him run his diner better. Wen and Alan too are the perfect couple on paper - same age, same social class, and Alan is still very much into Wen despite Wen pushing him away. Wen wants to break up with Alan coz he doesn't love him anymore, but then love usually fades away in a few years in every relationship. What are the chances that Wen will fall out of love with Jim in a few years and end that relationship too? This is something Jim would be very much aware of but his heart would still beat for Wen, not Gaipa. If only one could love the person who is perfect for them on paper.
I love that you brought the back to reality point. It does seem like Wen and Jim's story is kind of a dream. Like…
This makes me wonder if things between them would have been different if they had met for the first time during the day. They met at night when there was no one around - Wen was drunk and Jim was tired. And they just connected. Jim may insist on treating it like a one night stand but they both know that they connected on a deeper level.
And just like that it goes from lust to longing. Jim is the sweet, dependable man Wen needs. Wen is the spark of life that Jim needs. They are falling for each other every minute they spend together and it's such a pleasure to watch.
The other storylines are good too but they seem to exist in the real world, whereas when Jim-Wen are together it's like they are on a different plane. So when the little car accident happens, it's like being suddenly brought down to reality. P'Aof has created something unique here β€
Got really disappointed at the ending but I mean at least Suengcheon didnβt get poisoned ππΌππΌ but…
When SC switched with the gardener in the end, he walked out of his room with his golden spoon in his pocket. And the moment he stepped out of the house he said he is hungry. That was the cue for us to understand that he ate with the golden spoon in his pocket and got his memories back.
Then he realised what happened and decided to live as a gardener cum management guru. After 3 years when he is rich enough on his own (and feels he has paid for his bad karma), he asked for Juhee to interview him and got her to come to the beach (where they had first kissed). He even kept the golden spoon book out for her to see. I suppose he will eventually tell her who he is and she will recognize his real self the way she did earlier.
I had to take breaks while watching this to absorb all that chemistry π₯΅ Now that's how you do lust (and something more) at first sight! Those gazes, those smiles, those tentative touches.......until both men were on the bed and very clear about their preferences!
I'm glad there was no kiss and not just because Wen had vomited just then. I guess they both didn't want to do something as intimate as a lip lock in a one night stand. Look forward to their first kiss once they have accepted their feelings π
The other boys are lovely too but I was impatient whenever Jim and Wen weren't together or not thinking about each other. The fact that Wen is taking the initiative to make this more than a one night stand is as delicious as it is disturbing (since we know he is living with his partner). This is definitely going to get complicated and I will be here for it!
Noey! β€ One of those times when the actor seems to be born to be this character. I will miss Noey, this unique sweet brat. I will miss Thi and his awkward 'He He He'.
This show was a sweet watch, nothing great but with some very likeable characters. Tar and Bom both have this innocence about them π€ I hope to see them together in another series soon.
What a sweet sweet ending π€ Jong-Chan and Seung-Hyun really look like they are made for each other. They are just so soft together π
This was a perfect romcom from beginning to end. In just 7 episodes of 20 minutes each they packed in heart fluttering romance, personal growth, career advancement, and true friendships! TNE is now in my Top 5 KBLs of all time list π
