Right. I don't think we're going to get anywhere with this convo this way, but - like I said - everybody is free to think and feel whatever they want 😁

So you're basically saying what I just said in the first two sentences of my last comment? 😁
Anyway, Peem's a fictional character to start with lol.
I guess the intention behind the original novel was that his painting was actually great in every sense. But the production of this show has somehow managed to butcher that, and that's what I'm commenting on. Peace.

There is a Latin saying that goes, De gustibus non est disputandum, which literally translates to "There's no disputing about taste." It's your prerogative to like whatever you want, but I'm talking about the artistic value of his work, which comprises both its intrinsic value and the artist's craftsmanship. Craftsmanship is easy to discuss - there are countless sources you can learn about it from in order to objectively judge artists's skills in that area, and Peem's craftsmanship is still weak. The intrinsic value of art is much more difficult to pin down, as it is a highly subjective emotional value connected to how a specific work of art provokes you to think and feel. And while I'm not saying this painting can't give you any intellectual or emotional prompt, the one it most obviously gives off is very one-dimensional. And that's not a good start.
Generally speaking, the fact that something is "pretty" or "looks nice" has little connection to its artistic value. And especially if you are a fine arts student, what counts is not how pretty your work is, but the artistic value it carries.

LOL, way to nerd outπŸ’€
Blame my bf, he's the painter in this relationship haha.

100% But his work wasn't simple in a good way, it was banal.

Phuwin baby, I'm sorry, I love you but did you forget how to kiss since Never Let Me Go? It's nothing major and…
I wonder if it's Phuwin's or the director's idea. Although, Pond seems to have no problem with kissing, so perhaps they intended to use this as a way to show Peem's slightly more coy character... I mean, the first kiss delivered, so that sort of makes me wonder. Or maybe they wanted to make the show more 13+ friendly, but NLMG had the same age rating so it's really hard to say what was the real reason behind this. On a level tho, it feels like it's his own decision. And that just screams meh to me.

Haha, don't worry you're good.
His work was just very literal & cliche, in every aspect. Also color theory, what? Anyway, it just looked like an elementary school kid going against college students.
The production probably borrowed some acceptable student artwork to be featured in the show and then commissioned this.... amazing piece of art πŸ™„ (NOT), cuz it had to look like the original thing described in the novel. It's no wonder it looks childish compared to the other paintings, because it's much harder to create something with real artistic value based on a brief than it is when the artist is genuinely inspired by their own ideas.

I'm glad u enjoyed it πŸ™ŒπŸΌ. I'm more glad that the actors got a chance to play in something that might be a bit less cliche.

This show is a perfect example that good screenwriting and a good director can make or break a show. I'd seen parts of Ai Long Nhai out of the corner of my eye back in the day when my bf was watching it, and honestly it was SO cringe. I reckon the only reason he's even completed the show was cuz he thought Ping was cute. Anyway, back to this show - it's MeenPing's to lose. If they don't butcher it later on with poor decisions or execution it has the power to make BL A-listers out of this couple.

Frankly, I don't understand why people are so fed up with the so-called slow burn. Dude kissed Phum in the 5th ep & continued making out with him in every episode, so what do you expect? I'd say that's pretty standard for a BL show. Do you really need to put a label on things so much that if there is none nothing else counts? I'm not sure what you'd prefer to happen instead? An affair? A wedding? Plot twist, they're twins lol? Parallel universes? Mafia? Wait, these are all different shows with tropes I'm already bored of lol.

This is a feel-good romantic comedy without excessive drama. My bf got me into watching this and as simple as it is, I have to say I'm really enjoying it not being the MLs against the world for once.

Just chill, put a smile on ur face, don't overthink it & enjoy the ride.

I get it, but some of you really took it too far and you could've just left one comment like this and move on,…
I can't speak for what others do, same as you can't do that for all these people that stand on the opposite side of this discussion, who - in my humble opinion -as a group have behaved way worse than the people who are advocating for the boycott of this series.
I can only speak for myself, and I have never offended anyone in my posts here. My tone of voice is leveled & I just speak facts (except for an occasional reply like this, where I sometimes include my opinion).

I don't think reposting messages, when new people come & ask, and clearly don't have the patience to go through a massive comment wall - to help them understand the problem - is wrong. Spreading awareness sadly means repeating the same message over and over again, as long as there is even one more new person listening.

If you decide to ignore straightwashing (to the point that we are going to miss one of the main messages this story was supposed to send), and a convicted rapist on the cast, then that means you condone it. You are a passive onlooker. Doing nothing about it unfortunately makes you a supporter, whether you want it or not. And a supporter of homophobia is called a homophobe.

That is true, the BL genre is definitely gaining attention, but even the shows you mentioned haven't earned as much as some of the mainstream "straight" drama. Also, Korea is sadly a very homophobic society.

Question: Do you know what's wrong with this is comment section?

Xiao Qilin if you think that if you block me I don't know you're posting under my comment you're wrong.

Answer: What's wrong with this comment section is that it's full of COWARDS. Xiao Qilin, a good example, is at least the 2nd person in the last 24hrs that blocked me and continued to post under my comments thinking I wouldn't see it cause I'm blockedπŸ’€.

And the other person was Meggyszosz.

I live for the number of people who woke up today and decided to continue causing drama in this comment section. I salute you, you are supporting a good cause.

For first-timers, here's all that's wrong with this show in a nutshell:

1. It straightwashed a LGBTQ+ webnovel.
2. It cast an actor previously convicted of statutory rape & prostitution of a minor.
3. It used queerbaiting to lure BL fans, whereas it completely removed the very central gay storyline.
4. It completely disregarded the fact that the main message the original webnovel sent talked about homophobia.
5. It was produced in South Korea, a country that doesn't have any anti-homosexual censorship laws (contrary to China), and yet decided to censor the LGBTQ+ part of the story.
6. The producers changed the main characters from gay to straight because they were afraid a LGBTQ+ inclusive show would make them lose money.

Now you know.
