So I binged the first 6 episodes but after that it's a slugfest to the finish line BUT the opening is a banger.

Long comment below.

Lol that's great ^^ I'm planning on starting the show next week ^^

For the BL industry, I personally don't really care about all the extra stuffs that is done outside drama filming... If that's what makes them survive... it's honestly a bit sad.
With all the money that industry is bringing, it's about time they started to seriously invest in the production of good dramas with good scripts.

Anyway, actors should act and that's it. Eventually ad endorsement etc... but all the acting sweet in front of cameras? Honestly that's overkill, and I don't think companies should ask that of their actors. Even actors who are together in real life don't necessarily like to be filmed together. That's their private lives.

Ideally, actors are actors and should be able to act in straight and LGBTQ+ shows as they see fit. The worse for me is seeing some "fanservice" from two straight actors who obviously can't bear to touch each other. Honestly it's okay if you can't do it... BUT in that case, just don't accept the role.

Phat waking up in Thithat’s body and finding out Mind is marrying Thithat while the real him was in a long coma…
The coma idea would have been a really good idea as you explained.
I actually bought the book because I'm sure most of the draggy stuff isn't in it.... But I'm not Thai fluent nor have I started to read the novel... since it takes me MONTHS to finish a single book in Thai and I'm currently reading another one... So I can't tell you how the book fares comparatively and by the time I will be able to, we both will have forgot you ever asked that question.

I DID IT!
I swore to myself I would finish this show before the end of the month and I did.

As written below, this series would have been way better without that veryyyyyyyyyyyyy draggy middle which ruined the experience in my opinion.

The last 20 episodes were way better especially the last 10/15 episodes which were fast paced especially when you compare them to the rest of the series.

The end was pretty lackluster and as much as I though both the FL and ML depicted pain and longing well, I honestly though they had little chemistry together. But since they weren't together for most of drama except when the FL was a brainless idiot, that didn't bother me that much.

Anyway, final personal rating 7. I can't get past the draggy pace. If they had kept the quality of the first 10 episodes and the last 20... That would have been a 9 ( 1 point for the lack of chemistry of the main pair + blood pressure running high) but they had to drag down the story with too much episodes that served nothing and the emperor and empress that were just too hateful from start to finish.

Yeah I think I'm going to try watching that one once there's one or 2 left to air left.

I've tried to watch a couple of lakorns, but dropped most of them except for 2 and all, included those I finished, to use your words " were so draggy that it gets (...) frustrating to watch" ( I wouldn't say confusing because for me, it's a lot of additional subplots that serves absolutely no purpose to the main plot except lengthening these series for nothing).

I find it really sad because, because of that, I've mostly stuck to Thai BLs but most of them are just mediocre at best and don't make any efforts in the plot department and I'm getting sick of their poor directing, poor plots and their ridiculous over the top fanservice ( again I said "most" BLs I didn't say "all of them", don't attack me if you enjoy the genre).

Anyway, this one is short and both leads are eye candies. They've also put some money in and unlike most lakorn I've tried to watch, the sound quality is GREAT ( I need to highlight that point because my God why do most lakorns sound like they were filmed in the 80s is beyond me).

Now I've spoiled myself the end of episode 5 so I'm not really sure how they'll handle 4 additional episodes without it being draggy... But whatever happens, it's only 4 episodes. It should be okay.

Lol that picture.
I had to take a double take and check his face on other drama posters to be sure. Why this picture?
It's not ugly per say, but that guy is so cute, and he's basically got the "cute look" in most of his dramas, why choose a picture with a moustache and beard, that doesn't look like him and makes him look older than his age?

At Ep 40...

Probably my final opinion about this series.
It's extremely uneven.

It started very well and I got sucked into the story pretty quickly, but from episode 12 to 37, I really struggled to not drop the show... And that's over a third of the series (If you're watching the Viki version of 60 episodes).
There's a good chunk that from I've read is not included in the novel or maybe really short ( I don't remember) namely the part where they go in the human realm which basically does nothing to advance the plot. It just shows the Empress is a b** (though her ass*** of a husband is no better) but that point had already been driven enough times already by that point ( at the cost of my blood pressure might I add) so including that whole storyline is just overkill for no reason.
There's some very important back story included for Run Yu, but it takes very little time compared to all the extra useless fillers.

Finally by episode 39, the story picks up again... But from what I've seen so far, I'm sure I'm going to get at least 10 episodes of extra useless fillers and per classic Chinese wuxia traditions, some rushed ending.

Anyway...
This would have been way better at 40 episodes instead of 60.

The main plot is really good but bogged down by its length... I think it's something you see a lot for older shows which people watched on TV. Doesn't matter the country, they often put some filler scenes or extra side stories to make shows longer...

But people habits have changed... It may not be noticeable if you watch one or two episodes a week, but it's jarring when you watch them on streaming services and basically watch more than one episode a day.

Anyway... It's a classic... but definitely not as good as advertised... Not because the story is not worth it but because they chose to lengthen the show for whatever reason, at the cost of a well-rounded script.

Also, a show to avoid if you're allergic to brainless female leads. At episode 40, this girl has still no agency of her own. I fail to see why both ML are obsessed with this idiot except for her looks. Just crossing my fingers she gets some brain cells before the end of the show otherwise I'm gonna scream bloody murder.

Side note: Honestly I think the ML and FL are a good couple, their personalities match, and I can't for the life of me see Jun Mi with Run Yu. She's an innocent air head, and even before hell broke loose, I already thought they weren't a good match.

BUT. Run Yu should have been the main character with Jin Mi and Xu Feng as secondary ones. He's got the most interesting arc out of all characters.

Most viewers are so used to it that it doesn't really hinder immersion. And the truth is that there is too much…
Yeah... I'm not too familiar with these actors to be honest... I just checked and the only one I already saw is Choo Young Woo in the BL "You Make Me Dance" and that was a couple of years ago... so obviously my view is also not tinted by his more recent work ^^

You know... I don't have time to read your review right now ( having wasted time reviewing another show which was in my opinion way worse than this one though in a different genre)... BUT from the first lines... I think I'm in for a good laugh, so I'm marking this page for later🤣

I personally dropped this at episode 6, only to be attacked by a fan mob in the comment section... Heavens forbid people for having different opinions...

Didn't picked it up and have no intention to watch that one again...
But I always enjoy when I get a good funny rant, so thank you in advance for your time 🤣🤣🤣

Lol I get you... Personally I don't care for star power as long as actors act well... However when you get to my age, literally everybody looks young, so unless they look REALLY old, I'm honestly incapable of knowing if these actors are in their early or late 20s.
I think it really depends on how old viewers are. Younger audience, or older people who have kids the same age probably notice it more. But for me who's got no child and who's not working around any... they just look like teens.

Seo Kang Joon wasn't supposed to be the same age as his classmates in Undercover Highschool though. From what I remember he was supposed to be slightly older, and it overall worked for me except when he was smiling. He's already lost some of the "young adult fat" he had in his face, pretty classic when you enter your 30s, so his face wasn't as youthful when he was smiling but overall I thought it worked pretty well.

I'm must more disturbed when I see twenty somethings acting like they're supposed to be in their 30s or 40s. It looks ridiculous to me.

HELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOO WHERE IS THE POLICE?

I've seen my fair share of nonsensical Thai BLs which scripts had as many plotholes as Swiss cheese...

But I've got to say, this one is a WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLE other level. There's so many plotholes in that one that I wonder if there's still any cheese left... but never fear, with each passing episode the holes keep getting bigger.

I had initially started a long rant... But then I realized, this would be better in a review once I finished the show... So I erased most of what I wrote.

"kisskh is a space for respectful and thoughtful discussion. Harassment, hate speech, personal attacks, and inappropriate language are not allowed and may result in content removal or account action. Please keep things kind and civil."

So I came here to see what people were thinking about the episodes that have aired so far because I was wondering if I should add this show to my mental watchlist... And saw some of the comments...

I'm always very thankful when some members are spontaneously showing they're not worth me tiring my eyes out reading their comments. That's one troll Potato automatically blocked. The other dude who calls himself "Oppai Dono" and has "female" on his profile is blocked as well.

For those of you who don't know "Oppai" is slang in Japanese for "Boobs". Yes. This individual (maskerading as a woman) whose nickname is "Mr. Boobs" has an avatar featuring manga drawings straight out of a hentai.

Well. I don't need to bother discussing with this person to know his mind is in the gutter.

That's one comment thrown out there to warn future members to not bother with both. You're only going to waste your time as some poor victims have already done below.

I don't watch tv series on Youtube. It's available on Viki, that's how I saw the trailer, but thanks for the info.

it's from Mainland China but it's not airing in China, that's why they don't need to censor anything this is not…
Thanks for the detailed reply 😎
I've been a bit out of the loop to be honest. I did watch Stay with me but for me it's like the Spirealm (which I also watched). Pretty much censored so I never understood the ban in the first place...
For the rest, some titles do ring a bell but... I'm just a bit puzzled...

Is it ok for mainland actors to act in uncensored BLs?
I mean... I heard that both leads of the Untamed which was basically just Bromance, suffered a lot after the drama so I'm just a bit surprised here.

I mean I' not complaining for sure... But how uncensored is uncensored when the actors are from Mainland China?

Looks interesting... Probably going to wait for all episodes to have aired before tuning in but I have a question.

Is it really from Mainland China?

It's listed as such on Viki but the trailer features writing in traditional chinese (Taiwan)... also this is explicitly a BL... As far as I know, China is still pretty much censoring everything LGBTQ+ or maybe they switched gears and I don't know?

So... I'm late to the party ^^
I was just thinking of this actor which name I had forgotten and saw a youtube video about his scandal.
Well not the best character for sure... I usually try to separate the man from the artist as long as the dude in question is not a murderer, a rapist, a pedophile or a wife's beater ( non exhaustive list)... But I got to admit... He's a bit too much even for me.
Glad I'm not that much into J entertainment. I don't feel the loss.

Do I see everybody as being baby-faced because I'm getting too old or is this actor simply not aging?
I've been seeing in lots of secondary roles playing the Maknae of the group.

Err...
Right now I'm watching episode 6.... What can I say? Started to watch this knowing nothing about the plot.
I naively thought that this would be like Death Note, where initially you're rooting for the anti-hero and then at some point, the anti-hero crosses a line he shouldn't have and you end up rooting for the justice system...

But err... So far, I'm still Team Gaetal and we're in the middle of the show. Is it the intent?

So far so good. I'd rate this an 8.5... because they hinted at something very early and unfortunately it made one plot twist a bit too easy to guess... Cinematography is also pretty basic. It's not bad, it does the job, but it lacks that extra "oomph" that makes you feel you're watching "ART" if you see what I mean.

BUT very bingeable.

OH MY!
THANK YOU for this comment!
1. You definitely need to stay away from this one then. I still don't want to give up, but I'm gonna be honest... I fear I won't manage.
2. I was planning to watch the dramas you mentioned, and now I know I'd better stay away from both. I've already reached my limit with this one... I care for my health. Voluntarily setting myself up for hypertension is not one of my hobby ^^

Ah yeah Hidden Love is by the same author... But I LOVED Hidden Love... I'm sure novel of First Frost is just as good. Personally I blame the directing. I agree C dramas are slower paced... and I usually don't mind. 1. Because episodes are shorter 2. Because I do like the fact that they take their time... but as you said, there's a limit... My problem is that most of time I don't drop shows when I should...
