this is such a brilliant script with literally no win-win situation for anybody! We are forced to take sides knowing that there are no easy fixes and ethically gray areas are making all this so freaking murky.
I am loving the fact that FL is consistent with what she has been raised with and stands quietly absorbing information and making least damaging decisions in most situations. I am loving that it shows two guys forced to not be with the one they want to be with - a step up from Flourishing Peony Miles Wei character and the whole mountain up from most c drama.
I am so on the edge of my seat with this! Suspense as a long burn, because this is not a romance and hail to the crew for making it so great. I love a good villain and there a few here.

Moonlight Mystique? it is dragging for me and EL has such a bad detail (CGI, rocks, etc.) that I am not rushing back to it, but like you I love costume historical stuff (as opposed to fantasy) - so we will meet again! no doubt.
I saw the Shogun from 1980s and even though I was told by many people that this new one is better now than the version from nearly half a century back, I am holding off for now to watch lighter things. Cheerio!

Right on! the rating is so subjective and does not reflect the quality of the drama but merely it's watchability or catering to the broadest possible viewership. We know what we like and even if someone disagrees with our opinion (to quote someone on MDL, my apologies for not giving the credit due)-opinions are like derrières - everybody has one.🤣🤣🤣

not trying to discredit this historical thing, but the snuff box looks like something from late 17th and maybe even 18th century. Ming ended around mid 17th. I guess the writer just needed some material evidence.

As a fun observation, last year, I put in my notes the rating on Hard to Find. it went up from 6.9 t what it is now. Check for yourself. THAT was another miniseries with great villain (my favorite actor!) and visual buffet!

precisely. Drama is sponsored and airing on specific platform, sometimes exclusively, so they must have lobbied for that one year spacing to keep paying viewers with another year's subscription😁

one can only hope but when Eternal Brotherhood p1 was released people who are hawking Chinese drama industry said that even though they had the s2 ready for release at the beginning of 2024, part 2 could be released no earlier than 12 months after 1. Don't quote me on that, just repeating what they said.

no haters here. Just making fun of this thing. Have you seen Untouchable Lovers???? THAT was something when it came to hair, but I still loved it because it was so immaculate. Highly recommending that drama (UL) regardless of how difficult it is to watch. VERY good adaptation of a fabulous book.

I can see why they did 40-24 split. It makes sense to stop right now in the story. Loving it!

and I am rather happy that he gets what he deserves. In the novel he is just a scumbag, but even here he is such a bad character played well by Miles Wei. In fact, I think this is my idea of justice: you treat someone like crap just because you can, instant karma gets you!

why only wish for 10? what is it that drops your rating? Just curious. I just finished and given it 9.5 but have a feeling it will go up in a few days after I process the entire first part.

yea, if there is anything to be said about the hairstyles this period - UGLY! I would have given this drama 10 but rated 9.5 because I can't stand the hairdos.🤣
