I'm finally in the episode where Ruolai is being tortured. Yoh. Yibo is doing so well as an actor 🥹😍
I think it's his best role so far from what I've seen him in (he was also very good in Hidden Blade). He just gets better and better and he's picking some very interesting projects in the last year or so),
My sister always blamed me for watching this ridiculous drama...now I'm in for the second ride haha. Let's see…
My boyfriend was curious when I seemed overly enthusiastic for this yesterday. He saw what it was, rolled his eyes and walked off lol. Guess I'll be watching this season alone then.
I didn't really dislike her when she showed up, she just woke me up a bit as I wasn't expecting such an energetic person lol. She feels more like a BFF to me so far but it's possible JZ might get the wrong idea about her. We'll see, it's a nice change of pace from some very heavy episodes.
I didn't watch Bloodhounds and I forgot she was supposed to be there, how badly was it edited?
I remember her being in the first episodes a lot and really liking her character. Then she disappeared and iirc there was some random comment of she'd gone overseas or something. That was the last we saw of her which was a shame. I watched the drama when Netflix dropped it so my memory's not the best. It certainly left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak.
Sort of like what they did with Bloodhounds and Kim Sae Ron then, when an important character just randomly disappears? *shrugs* the plot interests me so I'll watch it anyway.
I want to like this as I've really been enjoying the novel. I'm just not feeling the show (...yet?).
I think if there had been more at the beginning in the Phupha/Kram world it might have had a smoother start. For example the Bone (Ashes) Exchange Ceremony was just mentioned, glossed over, and no explaination for why it's important. Perhaps that comes later). IDK things just feel very rushed and disjointed. Maybe if it was more than just ten episodes.
I was just gonna add this to my watchlist and it sounded so interesting and messed up I just had to it...then I read it was cancelled :(. What a shame. I feel this could have been amazing...
First of all I always like these historical political dramas like Arcenal academy, the eight and... For those who…
A few others I can think of for anyone interested...
Insects Awaken aka Sparrow 2 (2019) - another Republican-era drama with Wang Yang (plus Zhang Ruoyun). Inside Man (2020) IMO was very very good. Hengshan Hospital (2021) - not perfect but I liked it. Belief (2021) - Edward Zhang and Nie Yuan! Last but not least (and IMO still one of the best along with Sparrow and Inside Man) - The Disguiser (2015). Hu Ge, Wang Kai and Song Yi all in one drama, it feels like heaven.
Yes, I do love my Republican spy dramas a lot lol. One of my favourite ever genres.
ep 15 and i'm loving thisssss show so far !!! hope it gets the recognition it deserves!!
Loving your comments and I'm glad you're enjoying it (I adore the drama and will re-watch it at some point. I'm currently re-reading the novel on and off too). I also hope it gets recognition as it deserves it, its one of the best c-dramas I've seen in a long time.
I stopped updating here because I deleted my main account, so it became quite silent. But at the same time, I…
FWIW from a complete stranger, welcome back. You should feel free to support whoever you like and it's bad you had to delete your account over this. I deleted my account at the start of the year (no real reason, it was just getting very cluttered) and I think you can re-activate it within a month if you change your mind, assuming you did this less than a month ago ofc. But yep, life is too short to spend on unhappy people who are dead set on making others unhappy. All the best.
I somehow ended up binge-watching this, Moonlight Chicken and Cupid's Last Wish in a week off from work. I'm not usually one for ships but I'll gladly make an exception for these two as I adore hem together - Earth and Mix are such good actors, they have wonderful (and beautiful) chemistry and I really enjoyed all three of these dramas (I wasn't sure if I'd like CLW but I gave it a try and liked it well enough).
AToTS though...this drama's gonna remain special to me and I'm re-watching it now. What a beautifully written drama and for sure a new favourite of mine.
If you enjoyed this I'd strongly recommend the Thai drama Tea Box. It shares a similar theme of an unusual friendship between a senior widower who hires his young neighbour to be an odd job man for him. I
But I agree that there aren't enough dramas with seniors and middle aged people. Sometimes you just want to watch something from a different perspective.
I can see this being one of my favourite dramas this year, it was so worth the wait. Plus I feel we haven't gotten nearly enough Republican-era spy dramas/ thrillers in the past couple of years and I've missed them. Li Qin, Wang Yibo, and especially Wang Yang (more than a slight bias as WY is one of my favourite actors) are all doing great. I feel kinda spoiled having two episodes of this per day for the next couple of weeks 🤣what an excellent start!
Fingers crossed it doesn't get pulled at the 11th hour again!
I think that's happened...three times so far with this drama? I know at least twice last year I was looking forward to it then nothing. But yes, fingers crossed we get it this time!
Guess I'll be watching this season alone then.

Let the crazy continue (and hopefully get even crazier).

I'll give it 1-2 more episodes I think.
Can't wait.
What a shame. I feel this could have been amazing...

Either way I'm really looking forward to this, the first season was too much fun.
Now I'll have to see if I can track down the novel...
But yes, fingers crossed we get it this time!
