This would never happen but if somehow there was a prequel to 180 Degree about Inn and Wang's parents and everything that happened the whole series would be a solid 10* from me. My only complaint really is I'd want to see more of In as I really enjoyed his outlook on life and I found him such an interesting character. My guess is it would be extremely angsty and painful to watch but it would be worth it.
The narrow view is definitely a problem. I watched 7 Days Before Valentine just after 180 Degree as it’s the same director and that one really has been unfairly criticised as the drama is not your average BL story. Granted I don’t pay much attention to ratings but a 7.1 is awful for a series that good. All the time it was panned as boring and long winded, people asking when they’d get together, kiss etc, like every drama needs follow the same template or it’s not worth watching.
Whilst I get people watch dramas for different reasons (ie they want to unwind after a hard day with a cute story with a happy ending) it just feels jarring to expect these in a drama where they don’t belong. Dramas are so saturated with NC-heavy BLs, romcoms etc it seems unreasonable to expect the same things every time, regardless of if the plot calls for them (and a little more every time to “outdo” the last one of course).
I like to think these dramas will be more appreciated in time really. “G-rated” BLs aren’t any lesser, they’re just different (and also sometimes it’s nice to be able to watch something without quietly feeling the need to use headphones!).
Never apologise for an interesting rant! They make you feel better :).
Not sure I'm mentally prepared enough for this (but perhaps if I remember to buy wine I might not have to be 🤣). Still really looking forward to see how they adapt this anyhow.

Ah no I get you :). And 180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us to me is a great example of a drama which deserves a way higher rating yet there are complaints over no kiss or sex scene...but the story is fantastic and so beautifully written. To me that one would be worth a 9* easily. But it is what it is as you say. And thanks a lot for the rec. I'll add Koisenu Futari to my list to check out (plus I've been in the mood for more j-dramas lately).
It might be the asexual in me but it always squicks me people start dissecting the kiss scenes and sex scenes…
I'm asexual myself and I've gotten used to it over time as many people expect these things (i.e kissing, sex, and other forms of intimacy) in a relationship or a romance story which is understandable. Mainly all I look for in a romance, say with a drama like this, is a strong storyline and characters I like (I think the last "asexual" love story I watched was One Room Angel, which was very good).
Overall I enjoyed this a lot. As you say there could have been more backstory to it but at the end of the day it *is* a Priest novel which was adapted and not subject to Chinese same-sex censorship so I'm perfectly content. It'll certainly be on my re-watch list.
Ooo they updated the tags...and another political thriller <3 "Cruel female lead" gives me flashbacks of that sadist from The Disguiser. The woman who liked to peel off fingernails (lady was complete and utter nightmare fuel) C-dramas really are getting so, so good again ngl...tomorrow can't come fast enough.
I loved the first episode... partially as Komagine Kiita is so easy on the eyes and has such a natural and charismatic energy to him. And that voice...💕 Think I'll watch next week's episode before committing but I have a very good feeling about this one.
Looking forward to this but really hope Yang Mi gets dubbed bc I can't see her pulling off a good villain with…
Hm that's a good point. She does usually use a voice actor though iirc (I don't think I've seen her in a drama where she wasn't dubbed at least..is that her in the trailer?). Very good actress all the same and I hope she does more Republican roles...she looks so beautiful here.
Very quick question for any of you lovely people who have read the novel and don't mind answering (I haven't been able to track it down). I read a couple of YouTube comments saying the relationship was toxic and just wanted to check if it is or not? I really liked these two ladies in The Sign (well, granted, there's not about The Sign I didn't like lol), they're adorable together so I'll check out the drama regardless and it sounds interesting. Just want to prepare myself.
I'll come back to this after watching In the Name of the Brother I think..that way I won't be distracted by another Republican-era drama and hopefully by then this will have finished airing/ there will be good subs for it. The first six episodes were extremely good however.
(I absolutely love her as a villain. Somehow her voice makes her extremely intimidating).

Edit - oh nice they're also going to sub Ghost Yankee!
It's really nice to see j-dramas getting more recognition on platforms like Netflix and Disney +. Looking forward to this.
It isn't always successful but they've picked up a fair few MangoTV dramas in the past. Never know unless we try!
The drama does look really good so far.
