they don't wanna share it cos they paid for it 😭
It's only $5 a month. I don't think that's too much to pay for the hard work that goes into subbing a movie.

The mom smiles at the endCan anyone explain abot her smiling?I just want some lil explanation regarding that scene…
You mean the sister/mom? To me she was fully accepting her brother's gay relationship and feeling happy for him...but I thought she already did that early-on and back in Spring Life.

One of the best series / films I've ever seen. The entire series Pornographer / Mood Indigo / Playback.....were…
I still don't get what KH was doing going to that straight nightclub in Tokyo on the down low and acting very suspicious when KR found the business card. Seemed to me when KR got on his lap and talked him through it that he was admitting to enjoying lap dances there from women...but then the next minute he denies all that. So in the end...why was he going there? That's what started the whole thing, after all. I was hoping he was turning out to be bisexual and that the club was his way of dealing with that but he said he never did anything with anyone there, which I don't buy. Thoughts?

Pornagraphy and Sexual Content yet 15+. Make that make sense.
Seriously? Seriously? "Pornography?" wth are you talking about? there was no porn in this movie unless you think natural human sexuality, tastefully portrayed without any explicit images, is "pornography." In which case I'm sorry for you. I wish MORE mature, healthy sexual content like this was included in movies that teens can see. You think 15 year-olds don't know the score and don't have sex drives? What is it that you are afraid will happen if they see this?

On The Novelist: Playback Apr 16, 2022
Just finished this flick. I first saw Mood Indigo, then Pornographer and I don't recall being confused by that order. But tonight I watched Spring Life and Spring Life Continued (which why the hell not put those two together as one movie?) followed by Playback.

Initial thoughts:
I had forgotten I was still in love with Kido from MI. Pure smokin' hotness and a good actor.
I thoroughly enjoyed all the angst and jealousy and chasing each other around and all, but really? All because of what we saw at the beginning? At first when KR found that nightclub business card and KH was suspicious with his answers, especially after KR got on his lap and started replaying what he might have experienced there, I thought "oooh...maybe KH is bi and is having a fling or goes there to just get a taste of the other side of his desires" but right after he as much as admitted that to be the case he turned around and denied it, said he never did anything with anyone there. KR didin't believe him so off we were running...so especially once the film reaches its ending I am thinking "so what exactly was this all about? Was KH lying about not doing anything? I don't think so but then what the hell was he going there for? We never got an answer, so it all began to feel like one more Asian gay romance in which one or two sentences would have set everything straight but instead we got endless mis and non-communication along with junior high-level acting out.

That said, there were many lovely scenes and lots of great dialogue along the way. I do wish KR had actually nailed you-know-who just to thicken the plot and give him more to be remorseful about. :) That kid was adorable. I loved the mom/bar owner. Colorful/interesting/refreshing character. I teared up spontaneously several times but especially that bed scene near the end where KR wakes up and just stares...then KH wakes up and finally...we see poor KR say what he's been avoiding all this time. And allow his love and adoration for KH to fully express itself. Of course he cried. I did too.

And at the end when KR wrote "I want to come live with you..." such beautiful admissions of vulnerability.

Sadly, this is as much a romance between KR and his cigarettes as it is anything else. I always think of how his mouth has to taste like an ashtray when they make out. And make-out they do. These two are one of the BEST make-out teams in BL/gay film history. Tongues everywhere, slobbering, passion, no holding back. Just inspiring. Great sex scenes too. Nothing graphic but very hot. Everything most BLs avoid.

LOVED near the beginning - the little girl's matter-of-fact observation played out in her doll house and annnounced to the family with zero shame. Kids ALWAYS know so much more than the uptight adults want to admit. Also, at the end, why would the sister think those two were sleeping in separate bedrooms, and with all her shouting how would they still be asleep? None of that rang true to me.

Great movie though. Lots of good feels and handsome actors. I'm going to watch Mood Indigo soon just so I can soak in lots of Kido again.

8.5/10 Would have been at least a 9/10 except for those plot holes.

I must of been living under a rock because how in the hell am I just finding out now about this movie I thought…
I've known of it for months but could never find it online...until a friend shared a link and there it was! I just finished watching it. My understanding of the proper order of the movies is: 1. Pornographer 2. Mood Indigo 3. Spring Life/Spring Life Continued 4. Pornographer: Playback. I watched 1 & 2 in reverse order but it worked for me anyway. They are all well-done.

Seeming annoying and spiteful to YOU is how I know I am on the right track as you are very arrogant and don't write well, which is a dangerous combination. What's YOUR past trauma to explain that? lol

Thank you so much for putting this list together for me! I have seen some of them, but not all so I will certainly check those out. You've also inspired me to go back and do a re-watch or two. I always get so much more out o f a fillm the second time around.

I watch a lot of Asian gay cinema too so feel free to recommend those as well. I think maybe watching those feature films have raised my standards for what I'll put up with from a BL, compared to when I first found the BL Universe. Dumb, repetitive, trope-city, cliche plots, terrible acting/directing, etc. are hard to put up with now so I have dropped a lot of BLs lately. If you want to take a look at what I've watched in Asian cinema there is a "Favorite Asian Gay Feature Films" list on my profile page. I think there are 44 films there. But of course there are many I've seen that I didn't include in the list and I'm hoping always to find others I have not seen.

Whatever. When a bunch of people reply and I reply back, sometimes one comment gets confused with another. But i'm sure that's never happened to you. I enjoy spreading negative views of this show all over the place as is my right; the people who reply to me are rather generally "unfriendly" wouldn't you say?

Finally, I don't care if anyone here "takes me seriously." lol It's a freaking BL comment thread, not the NY Times editorial page. But you wrote this comment just to be snide, so I do get where you are coming from.

Yeah, you are right. Atleast respect other people's opinion . . rather than ruining their experience just because…
OK, that makes sense. I'll be back when I feel mentally up to it. :) I actually have a rather large audience here as their continuous responses to my comments attests. I keep saying "just skip my comments" but few take the advice. Apprently they enjoy their anger and outrage. :D

If I were to go back and try again I'd have to do it in 20-minute increments until it miraculously improved. That main lead's acting is so bad and there are such cringy moments like that thing where he pretended to be a secret agent in a goofy outifit in his head approaching a cardboard cut-out of his crush and for some reason pointed a finger-gun at the cut-out as if to shoot him. That doesn't even make sense. Not even a little. Yes, it would be wild if I ended up liking the rest of it, but even if I did should a series take more than four episodes to hit its stride? Shouldn't one be pulled in within the first hour?

That's just it: I discovered BL about 18 months ago, along with Asian gay cinema in general and I think I've about seen everything. :( But just in case, please recommend anything at all. I am drawn to dark themes/sexual issues/coming-out stories. There is nothing too dark for me but I am NOT a slasher/splatter fan either. I'd love more gay-themed recs if you have them. Enjoy the Koreans the most at this point, then Japanese, Taiwan, Thailand and the others. Thank you.

And thank you for your last paragraph. I'm glad you got a chuckle from my posts here. It is interesting that people who claim I "hate" the show spend their time "hating" on me. They don't like that I respond, they want me to go away, whatever. There is a seeming inability to skip comments with my screen name on them.

Oh, you somehow missed the fangirl who has about 500 comments here, eh? I don't "hate" this show; that's such a ridiculous accusation. I simply think it's really bad. And I can discuss that with as many commenters as respond to me, regardless of what you may think about it.

"You can reply if you want bc you love attention but my suggestion for you is don't even waste your time bc I'll just ignore your notification and not read your repeat drama"

Finally, you get it. This is what I've been telling others like you but they seem unable to skip comments from people they "hate." lol

I'm really unable to process why the rating is so low on this, possibly expectations for the vibe you're expecting…
Is a 7.6/10 really that low though? That would be a C+ on a school grade, which is average.

So you think people who don't like a show for very specific reasons, like me, should never comment on the threads for those shows: "rather than saying negative things why not just drop the drama?" Well, that's because it's interesting to share my take on a show I don't like and then respond to people who respond to me. That is what a comment section is. It is not a cheer section for the show to which it is attached. A negative opinion of this show is just as valid to leave here as a positive one. There is a prolific commenter here who loves the show and leaves hundreds of comments to that effect. Have you asked her to stop? Why does it matter to you how many people watch a show? If you enjoy it, isn't that what matters?

Unless you're kind of the equivalent of a K-Pop Army member in which case I get what you're trying to do.

Oh dear, Ashile, I'm sorry you're so defensive about this...series. How in the world do my comments make any difference to you. Don't read them. Problem solved. I have liked shows that others hated and they put up plenty of negative comments. Not ONCE have I demanded anybody stay off a page because of it. God, just skip my comments when you see my screen name. Is that so hard? People like you are weird that way. There's a commenter here who loves the show and has commented many times more than I have. Have you asked her to leave? It's not the number of comments that bug you, it's that I don't like what is apparently your pet show.

I think I'll comment a lot more here just to drive you insane.

Question: I'm aware that this series is executive-produced by Saint. I saw a comment somewhere far down in this thread about someone in the cast being his brother. I can't find anything online about that. Does anyone know if this is true and if so, maybe a link? Thanks.
