You might be right 🥲. I actually had the same feeling when I first watched the trailer. I've been following this drama since the day they started shooting. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed when they announced the supporting cast, none of them are particularly strong actors.
But I’m still hopeful. CY has never really needed a strong production or cast to shine. He just gets his characters so well. Even if everything else falls flat, I know he’ll still make it worth watching. 😊

My love for Chinese dramas began with classics like Legend of the Condor Heroes, Nirvana in Fire, Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber, and Handsome Siblings. I’ve always been a sucker for wuxia dramas... the compact storytelling, the chivalrous heroes, the deep sense of honor..... they completely drew me in. But over time, I lost interest. The newer dramas felt so watered down , characters lacked real inner turmoil, male leads were just love-struck and one-dimensional, and original novels were being altered just to appeal to a target audience. It felt like the soul was missing. Then MLC came along... and with it, Cheng Yi. That drama reignited everything for me. I don’t think I’ve ever become such a hardcore fan of an actor before. Cheng Yi brings such incredible depth and emotion to every role he plays. I honestly can’t even put into words how beautifully he portrays his characters. There's no one like Lian Lianhua .... I don’t think I’ll ever find another character or performance that compares. I desperately need another Cheng Yi drama now. 😭 It’s almost been a year since Deep Lurk came out, and the wait is driving me crazy.

At first, the love story was nicely balanced, but now? I’m just skipping through episodes... The deaths feel random, the political plots make zero sense... It feels like it’s intentionally written that way 😂

That’s exactly why I’m struggling to see them as a couple. The FL is such an emotional manipulator. Honestly, even I can’t always tell when she’s being real... half the time I’m questioning if her words are genuine or just part of some plan. she’s just using him to help her own family, not because she actually cares about him.
I can buy them as rivals or equals playing a game of power, sure. But lovers? Nah, Just imagine taking wedding vows with someone whose family basically betrayed yours and indirectly caused the death of your entire family. That’s horrifying. 😪
