ARRRRRGH. The FML character is a disaster. She has no attractive qualities - like none. She is mannerless, infantile idiot, a slob, a blabbermouth, has no boundaries, and a doormat. None of her behavior is endearing or cute. Sure she is kind, but she is kind the way 3 year olds are kind, and she needs the same amount of constant attention as a 3 year old! . Storyline seemed interesting at first, especially the dynamic between ML and the Art Center director. Acting is good, ML is gorgeous, but the FML character is a major turn off. Come to think on it, almost all female characters in this drama are unbearable. Dropping.
Of course it is one trashy drama, but it is a very satisfying trashy drama. Characters are vivid, conflicts are juicy, plot has enough of a fairytale quality to work, the cast is absolutely brilliant, ML is a dream come true bad boy with a heart of gold.
The only character that set my teeth on edge is the object of his affections - FML. To my eyes she was so badly acted, it hurt. Fake emotional expressions, artificial demeanor, lacking real charm, warmth, or sincerity. There was something distant and condescending about her. In addition FML role is written as a vehicle for HIS development, but her own character and storyline are lame. All she ever does is running away , pushing him away, and delivering unbearably tacky lines about being poor, midsummer dreams, and silver linings. But basically she is a little coward, who never quite commits to him. Drama has a happy ending. It is ambiguous enough, and I couldn't help wishing Tan a much more genuine and true lover and partner in life than her. But still, as trash goes this is a helluva good drama.
The reporters in this drama are irredeemable vultures. Park Hee Young is herself a psychopath. They provoke a very strong desire to hit them over the head with their cameras and tape recorders. The public is no better including victims. People in dramas have the most insane concept of guilt and who is responsible for what. They just ran wild with their anger and attack whomever is handy. Attacking a son for the sins of his physico father is medieval and absolutely disgusting. I feel no compassion for them, tragedy doesn't give you licence to abuse other innocent people.
xukai was bashed for being fat in this drama by C-netizens ; then you can get how obsessed they (actors, netizens)…
OMG. You could count bones through his shirt, and he looked gaunt. This is seriously sick. I felt awful for FML - she is gorgeous and a great actress, and the drama is fun, but she was so thin, her body proportions were distorted... This is just insane and cruel and sick.
WOW, FML and that appalling Li Dai look anorexic - not in a figure of speech but literally. I don't say they have the disorder, probably studios force them to be that thin, but it looks awful. Shame really for FML is such talented and charming woman! But why oh why every other working FML in Asian dramas is a slob?
She is such a pain in the ass! Why is she torturing him with all that angst and drama? If you can't handle the unknown future get out the relationship! If you love him so much you can't be without him then just be with him ,and stop dumping on him speeches about the 'end' and 'our problem'. It's like that is the only thing they ever do - discussing the end of their relationship . Geez. The relationship between the 3 women is gold, though. And I just love-love-love Brian. ๐
You sound like someone who haven't actually watched it. And judging by your list you only rate high saccharine…
No, Mr. Sunshine is not saccharine ( I have not seen others) but your original post said " every single character in this drama is trash" - and that sounded like seeing things in terms better applied to dramas with clear cut 'good' and 'bad' characters and no complexity. Mr Sunshine, though not saccharine, is that kind of show too.
Almost every single character in this drama is morally corrupt.
You sound like someone who haven't actually watched it. And judging by your list you only rate high saccharine cute drama about nothing much. But whatever.
Who cares? I wouldn't know one model from the other and don't want to. Dramas take money to make, it is their way to get financing, easy to ignore, and better than constant interruptions for adds like they do in the West.
It is one of the most brilliant dramas there is. It is not for those who look for eye candy, cutesy, buffo comedy, or any other standard issues of k-drama. Adultery is not the subject of it, it is a vehicle for telling a story about authentic human values. If there is anything to compare it with it probably would be French left bank tradition, or Three Colours trilogy - but very loosely . It is complex , compelling, and restrained , it is like a music score, and the way actual music is used in the drama is a breathtaking inner monologue. Kim Hee Ae is mesmerizing, Yoo Ah In acting is utterly stunning and unforgettable. He once said he thought this role was once in a lifetime chance, he was right.. His talent is genius. To think that S.Korean law could deprive us of it makes me want to weep.
Or, is the OTT service perhaps thinking to cut its losses? Maybe the show has more problems besides this?
That is a different issue. You don't like Earth destruction don't watch, it is not my kind of drama either. But that doesn't affect my disgust at what is being done to Yoo Ah In and many others Asian actors.
This is disgusting. Why should Netflix take it upon itself to function as a punitive arm of insane Korean laws and 'morality' ? Enough with canceling talented people for totally unrelated stuff!
It is such a good drama, even for someone who is not into e-sport. The dialog is smart, (I could have done without poop jokes, but whatever) the issues are real, supporting cast is excellent, and so is ML. My one gripe, FL should have had more than two expressions. She was like a pouting plastic doll, with no genuine feelings. The secondary FLM was so much better actress!
this only for no-drama no angst, only fluffy drama kind of people i guess the only tense moment is their competition…
You seem to be interested in psychology, and probably know that we, humans, can imbue anything with deep meaning, that is what ink blot test is all about btw; we give things meaning and then we analyse them and understand them. Basically we see what we want to see. I would not call it a character driven story, at least not by any standard definition, nor a slice of life story, nor slow burn story. The rest is a matter of taste. As to FM as one of the strongest characters in contemporary cdrama, I guess it depends on the viewer, but to my eyes she is one of the worst written character in anything I personally have seen. But that just me.

Whether we like something or not doesn't make writing itself good or bad. It is kind of the same as with hot dogs - people may like them, but they are not good food. ๐. Good or bad writing is a rather objective thing.
This drama hits almost all basic 'crap' qualities in writing. There is no plot, no real dialogue, no character development , details are random and have not continuation nor real significance . Main characters are so one dimensional, it hurts. ML for instance has more outstanding skills and abilities than a dictionary of professional titles, and more laudable character traits than a saint. FM is so cute and innocent she can't even slice an apple. He treats her like a toddler, while obviously trying to get her into bed. Supporting characters are so supporting is it ridiculous. Everybody and her brother are rooting for them, everybody likes him, everybody adores her - even his little niece choses her out of a crowd of people to run to hug. The whole world is there to support their snowy love while she dodges his kisses for 15 eps.
Most things don't make sense: like doing PhD, studying, working, running a billiard club, while traveling to see her 14 hr back and forth to dine and wine her, then taking her to mountains to look at the stars and sit in the car (why? - yeah I know it is in the book, but in the book it made some sort of sense), then to the beach with snow ( why?) All that from someone who is broke. Drinking 2 bottles of hard liquor and winning at pool, then going somewhere to get her a cake -why? Calling her his wife when they are not even a couple yet. Sitting next to each other and texting emojis for 10 eps. Maybe in real life it happens, but it is lousy dramatic writing. Playing in 6 events at Asian Games with an old injury ( where did that injury come from?) and at the same time managing to learn to play the guitar - seriously? Gifting her with an apartment in Finland because she was sentimental about the laundry room, while she is telling him she doesn't want to marry, but will suddenly agree because he signs her a song? One or two of such things would pass for romantic, but here it is a pile up of them, and nothing else. As I said it before, I am very fond of WL as an actor, and it annoys me to see him in such sup par production.

I disliked the drama because it is very badly written , but i loved their behind the scenes outtakes. They both were so alive, so playful with each other, there was such chemistry, trust, back and forth, such obvious enjoyment of each other company. Then they would start the actual scene and all that would turn to lead with molasses on top. But, as you have pointed out, some people get butterflies watching him staring at her like a wolf at a bonny rabbit, when others just roll their eyes.
