Thank you. In English for a young man to sincerely say "drown my sorrows" - a set expression coined in the 18 century or even earlier, sounds extremely strange. Had he said it ironically it would have worked, but they made a point of him meaning it literally. Said in earnest it comes across as pretension, affectation, self pity and melodrama. Do young people in China actually say things like that? I am thinking it was just an unfortunate translation.

She asks him why he drank so much. I think it is ep 13 or 14

Don't think so yet. At least in ep 14 they were playing with snow on a suddenly summer beech, playing hide and seek, and he was carrying her out of the car in his arms like a toddler needing a nap. It is all very nonsensical and 'sweet'. My teeth are aching.

It depends if you are in the mood for a slow burner romance drama staring beautiful people
It is not slow burn, it is more of a slow drag 😬.. I am at a point of considering dropping it.

In real life when couples are intimate what do you think they tell each other ? It is sometimes even cringier…
True, but there should be a difference between "real life" cringe and a drama as in a from of art. Otherwise it is like being a peeping Tom spying on your neighbors. It is what they call poshlost (пошлость) in Russian . I am on ep 14, and with all my affection for WL, the scene in bed about 'memories' was unbearably bad. Maybe it was direction or straight shot in your face camera, or translation was off, but it was bad.
On Amidst a Snowstorm of Love Feb 9, 2024
Gods grief , some of the dialog is so corny it is cringe worthy. "To drown my sorrows' ? "How did you get so pretty?" Is this in the original, or the translators are 80 something dirty old men?

That was probably one of the most hilarious lines in the drama so far.
And she probably doesn't even realize what she just said. Reminded me of a line in a Russian play Ordinary Miracle "Princess, you are so innocent, you say absolutely shocking things!"
On Amidst a Snowstorm of Love Feb 9, 2024
I am on ep 13 flashbacks. I have to say these 'elders' are bullies. It is all about humble yourself, crawl by their feet, plead for mercy whether you are in the right or wrong. I hate this sh*t.

Is this drama worth watching ,cos I'm on episode 1 and I don't really understand what's happening 😊
It is because nothing much IS happening. There is a genius billiard player in exile falling in love at a first glance with a girl.

it's Trend #2 ???????wow. is it worth watching??? is it that good?
It is Leo Wu, playing yet another incomparable genius with traumatic past and a heart of gold, trying to get a girl into bed for 13 eps (so far). Who can resist? 😜

He is not a virgin in the book. But 27 and 30 year old virgins seems to be a thing with Asian dramas. I am still enjoying the drama thanks to acting, but i think handling of the story line could be much better.

It is easy to find justification both ways. I was not talking about just that one episode with picking her up at the train station, which was sweet and romantic. It is about the overall behavior. He is fixated on her like a laser beam. He is upending his whole, that he had been building for 10 years, just for her. Of course it is extremely flattering, and yes, the idea is that he is in a self imposed exile from his true vocation, and she makes him come back 'home' . But storytelling wise it is just too overboard, and too fake. You need a bit of frication, a bit of a conflict, a bit of a challenges, a bit of something! to make any story really work, instead of just being cute to look at.

I agree, it is overboard. They do cute well, but too much sugar rots your teeth :)

LLTG and Nothing But You were not exactly lacking in sexual tension, btw, but perhaps you thought slamming Shaoshang…
I love LLTG, and I though chemistry between the ML and FL was superb, but even their 2 kisses were sanitized. Slamming her on the bed for me was not about sexual tension at all. I mean maybe if we were living in Victorian England it would be provocative, but not in 2022. NBY I though was cosy , and I liked their relationship a lot, but it was not really sexually charged. This one is different. It is mostly all about sexual attraction.

The amusing part is that lack of signage could be an issue in NY underground, but not in Finland. Their public transportation is excellent, safe and easy to navigate. Also she could take an Uber. As to unruly behavior - waiting for him at the railway station could expose her to unruly behavior . I guess I am judging from my own experience. I moved to a foreign country where I didn't speak the language an didn't know anyone at 21. So to me this looks very sweet but a bit overprotective.

As I said, at the beginning of a relationship it is endearing. Living a life together like that would be a problem for a great many women.

I kind of agree about the controlling part. I just watched ep 12 and I just don’t like how he told her he wouldn’t…
well, he didn't do it on purpose, it is not manipulation, he simply can't stick to his normal routine and breaks his original plans because he wants to be with her instead.
On Amidst a Snowstorm of Love Feb 7, 2024
With all the gushing that is happening here about how sexy LLY is, 😜 I am almost afraid to comment, that he seems to be quite controlling... Endearing at the first stages of romance, but living with a guy who doesn't let you to take a tram on your own might be a bit suffocating...
On the other note, this is a first drama where WL is playing a role that has obvious sexual power and intent. His pervious romantic roles had physical and athletic genius and charisma , but sexual presence not so much. Here he is doing something very different. What a talent! I so wish his career can keep growing with interesting and challenging work instead of same old same old under the thumb of Chinese censorship. And meanwhile WL needs a manicure 😊

Does anyone know where I can read the novel?
Fair warning: Luminarynovels are only 1/3 done and translation is awful. Mtn is completed, but probably machine translated, and semi incomprehensible. For one it confuses genders so he keeps kissing himself and leaning his forehead on himself and so on, the sequence of tenses is so off sometimes you can figure out whether something had happen or will happen or is happening. Plus bizarre translation on idioms. If you can put up with all this - enjoy! I gave up midway, when he got back to China.
