In ep1 after the horse incident he asks his subordinate to investigate her and realises she is his childhood friend hence his over-enthusiastic pursuit of her...it is explained in ep 17 or so when he leaves her a letter to go to capital for a while.... She initially had to live on streets till finding Grandma Chen, even then Grandma Chen is a tea shop owner so apart from having a place to live and some degree of security, she would have had to work...her life had struggles

The dialogues initially are "it wouldn't be bad if we stayed here for tbe rest of our lives too"...and hints at their mutual desire to want peace and stay there together (together because of use of word 'we' and their physical closeness of holding hands, resting her head on his shoulder)...the reason they couldn't was because each had their own path to take... As said in my earlier comment...I could sense her softening, but these dialogues which hinted at planning a future together had some missing scenes for me...also I find ZY's acting not convincing in this role and had to base my interpretations on subtitles and pther actors in scene and story progression I am glad it was not so for you

The plot amd narration was actually very good..full of unexpected twists..only that the lack of budget kinda became too apparent in those episodes and Xu Kai's screentime was so diminshed...

She doesn't realise how much he means to herr yet...she realises how serious and sincere ML is towards her..she recognises the depth of his efforts and emotions he has towards her here.. It softens her towards him...unfortunately they didn't show us the events that happened in the fishing village to connect the dots from softening to planning a future together..I was fine with this as this is more of a revenge drama and revenge plot and schemes are centre-stage

I see this more as a budget issue...I think they didn't have money for another actress to play younger version of grandma role..or something of that sort.. They could have actually used the founding lady for younger version than introducing her as new villian character..

1. His revenge is part of the entire plot and happens step-wise as he needs to collect evidence to clear his family name as well 2. The whole of Hengtang officials are corrupt including the Xie family. The officials all gather with Yan Rui to drink..there are 2-3 scenes...the main official or transport officer is Lord Wei 3. Why Xie is being targetted is : in one of the earlier episodes it was said in conversation by Concubine Mei that "while everyone is hiding their wealth, her son is showing off, making them targets "....because of their showing off it is easy for Yan Rui to start his investigations from Xie family Hang in there...pace picks up and everything gets explained...there are also cryptic dialogues...sometimes I rewatched episodes to pick up clues

I personally think the plot deserves a 9.5...everyone acted well except ZY...(but that is completely my opinion based on my viewing experience) But i totally get why people don't want to rate it a above 9...and in fact I don't have any problem with low ratings s long as it is honest... But does this drama deserve to be rate 1? It had loads of strengths...1 rating is surely work of haters
