I've been thinking I'd like to do one of those weekend movie articles, but silly girl that I am I'm too shy! I'm not the most eloquent of writers at all. :)
Great list, mrs! I'm eyeing The Promise. Looks like my kind of movie! Will check out the others too.

LOL, yeah. I can see why you'd hate Aki. She was a little much. But just like with Tae Bum I tried to live in her shoes and see the circumstances from her eyes. That's when I started to understand her (plus with a guy like Halu who keeps his cards close to his chest ... it's okay to make him work a little, although I sympathized with his internal turmoil too). It's fun discussing these dramas with you Duri! Thanks for being such a sport! :-)

I think you'll like it. It's a really sweet, touching drama about love and trying to find your way in the world as a young adult. It's very relevant for someone your age. It's an oldie, but a goodie. Give it a go one day. :)

Fair enough. We can agree to disagree where they're concerned. :-)
To me Soo Young will always be a spoiled, selfish little 12 yr old brat. LOL
Meddling in-laws are inevitable I guess, but even in Confucian South Korean culture I still believe any reasonable, any sensible wife or husband would have said something. I mean what the mom-in-law did was simply beyond any tolerable behaviour. First she goes through another person's intimate undergarments and then THROWS them out without even consulting the owner? Omg. That is sooo disrespectful on so many levels. Stuff like that can break up a marriage & that's why I'm upset that Soo Young didn't tell her mother to back off. And later when Tae Bum too started acting like a dog with his tail between his legs ... I knew this couple was over for me.
Aww well, you win some you lose some. Thank goodness there was Tae Hee & Ja Eun! :-)

Haha, you did answer, but I've seen many dramas/films that have had great endings that weren't necessarily happy endings. That's why I asked you to be more specific as to whether the ending is happy or not. Due to a personal crisis, I'm staying away from sad ending dramas/films at the moment.
Damn, a black man in a South Korean movie? This I gotta see!

I couldn't stand her bcus she was very conceited n selfish. Her parents spoiled her and gave her a massive princess complex. Just because she loved Tae Bum, she & her interfering mother demanded that he loved her back, as if love is something u switch on n off at will. She stamps her feet, pout and whine: "How DARE u not love me back when I love u?". Another reason why I hate her is because she never stood up to her mother & the way she invaded the privacy of their marriage. How can u let ur mother throw away ur husband's clothes & underwear and NOT say anything in his defense? If Tae Bum's mom had done that I'm sure it wouldn't have gone down well with anyone! There's yet another reason why I hate her, but I wont say now bcus I don't think u've seen that far yet. Anyway, my point is yes Tae Bum messed up, but Soo Young messed up way more than him in many areas.

Yes, you contributed to half the problem, but you still feel a little resentful. Meanwhile the stakes weren't as high for Soo Young because she already loved Tae Bum & the pregnancy was a blessing in disguise for her to trap him. So for her everything was blissful. She had the man of her dreams, the baby she didn't think she'd have and mommy & daddy's money to live off of. She's in heaven while Tae Bum is in hell. While it would have been honourable of him to bite the bullet and just focus on his new family that's not how human beings operate. When life throws us a curve ball we rebel, we whine & we get bad before we get better. I put aside my feeling as a woman and tried to look at it from his standpoint. That's when I began to understand him. I could find no such understanding for Soo Young, however.

Therefore, to my way of thinking, Tae Bum is as much responsible for the pregnancy as is Soo Young, but he's not MORE responsible. They're consenting adults. They both created the mess and should both deal with it in a manner that's in the best interest of the child. I'm not condoning Tae Bum's behaviour when he found out that she was pregnant. His reaction, though, is typical of most men in the same situation. He panicked, he was selfishly thinking only about himself, he felt trapped ... so his first instinct was to RUN. When his father beat some sense into him (loved that scene by the way) he did the right thing. After the marriage I understood his behaviour as well, even if I didn't like it. Imagine it from his perspective, imagine being stuck in a marriage to someone you don't love and having to give up on your dreams that you've been working so hard for.

I think it's unfair to blame the pregnancy only on Tae Bum just because he kissed her first! :) LOL, what is she, a child who can't say no? If she's old enough to drink, get drunk & have sex, she's old enough to deal with the consequences of her actions. Moreover, she kissed him back, didn't she? Soo Young is an autonomous adult. No man can get her pregnant unless she allows it to happen. I'm very much for women being responsible for themselves 100%. It's not a man's responsibility to ensure a woman doesn't get pregnant, it's the woman's because it's her body & she has full control over it. Just like no woman can have a man's baby without his consent (98% of the time). A man has full control over his own body and can dictate who receives his goods. If he's not discriminating in who he impregnates then he can't cry wolf when any woman he sleeps with ends up pregnant.

And yes she's pregnant & hormonal, but you can't force love, can you? Either the person loves you or they don't. Tae Bum's behaviour was flaky, but realistic. He didn't want the marriage & he didn't enter it as a man in love. It would've been more dramatically interesting if they had allowed him to gradually fall in love with her rather than force his feelings. As for the ex, I agree that she was redundant and irrelevant to the plot. I don't know why so many Asian writers and showrunners resort to this tired old plot devise. It's so annoying. But ok it is what it is. I can't remember Tae Bum doing anything wrong with her. I remember him telling her that he has a wife & kid on the way now so that boat with the 2 of them on it has sailed. But again, like the spoiled 12 yr old child that she is, Soo Young misunderstood when she saw them talking & went off the rails. ::eyeroll::

I felt the exact opposite when it comes to Soo Young. I liked her at first, but then she showed herself to be just another spoiled, rich girl who expects the world to revolve around her. In the end I grew to dislike Tae Bum too, but Soo Young particularly got to me. I felt like she and her mother blackmailed TB into loving her. I wanted him to grow to love her on his own (like when he took her to the buffet restaurant and was charmed that she ate all that food by herself). That was beautiful to watch, the love grows organically ... because as he's falling in love with her so are you. But they cut that short & instead Soo Young just whined and whined like a bratty little 12 yr old who runs to mommy for everything. She even turned Tae Bum into a wimp like her that's why I no longer liked him. I preferred when he was ballsy enough to put his mom-in-law in her damn place! :)

There wasn't any Kai during my uni days either! :( Matter a fact, I don't think there are many Kais in the world at all. Sad to think about it ... haha (not that we women are a bed of roses either). But that's why we have dramas, right. They're our balm! lol I'll put up a review of OD soon. I love it so much it gets priority above all the other reviews I've been planning to do. I'll probably watch Tatta next since you speak so highly of it. And I'm going to check to see if Eriko has written any movies. I may very well become a fan of her too!

I finished Orange Days this morning and loved it! I adored the hero who I thought was an amazing guy, so patient and kind. Never heard of Honey & Clover, but I'm gonna check it out! I've been looking around for a drama similar to Orange Days because I think OD had a perfect balance of realism & escapism. I love shows & movies that have a good combination of both the best. And I agree with you, wasn't a good idea to let the lovely Mr. Gong Yoo play two roles in that movie. It was kinda weird. But I just for him (I don't like the heroine) I'm going to finish it. Thx for the rec! :-)

Hey, saw your review for Sweet Room and wondered where you saw this film? I really want to see it, but can't find it in any of my usual spots (gooddrama, dramacrazy). I found one of the films on youtube, but the others are missing. Thanks for your help.

I absolutely LOVED Orange Days. This drama really touched my heart. Maybe because I identify so much with the characters! I graduated uni in 2010 and I had so many of the same questions and fears about the future (still do! haha). And I've never been deaf, but somehow I understood Sae's struggle and like Kai I just wanted to give her a hug when she became overwhelmed and lashed out at people. Speaking of Kai, I don't think I've ever come across a more lovable, patient, kind, just all round absolutely wonderful hero like him in long while, if ever! This guy was very easy to love. It's a definite 10 for me. Thanks for getting me to finally watch it! I wish there were more dramas like this around. :-)
