Nah, the writers were set on a sad ending regardless. I’m just saying what my alternative ending would have been. From episode 1-12, the drama could have headed to two different endings but the writers chose the sad one to make their point. Neither one is wrong, just the one they choose didn’t gave me the proper closure I needed for HD and BYJ. I think had Minchae not been introduced so earlier on, there might have been room for flexible to change the ending. I’m pretty sure there are some regrets as this could have been the best love story of all kdrama but it’s not because of it’s ending. I don’t think they plan on it being this successful.
If they had waited,If they had seen each other after 7 years,If they hoped,If 9/11 didnt happen,If they had stayed…
Personally, I felt he shouldn’t have kissed her and caved in. They should have waited…..she goes on to have an amazing career and he became the anchor. They support each other during this time like how they have been since the beginning. When she retired, he was waiting for her to congratulates her on her last win. Then they get married and have a daughter. That would have been the ideal ending for me based off their love story. It was all about timing….their timing was not done correctly and so they have to part per the writers.
If there's anyone who have not watch this drama, want to watch but have doubt. I say, go for it. This drama is…
That exchange of words when they broke up and then later on the kind words they exchange again about how each made an impact on each other really broke….it like stabbed me in the heart. I still get emotional when I come across a clip of those scenes……but yes, this drama is one of a kind. Kim Taeri and Nam Joo Hyuk really brought to life Hee Do and Yi Jin. To miss out on watching this drama will be a missed opportunity.
I haven't still completely recovered from the emotional damage happened from this drama. It still hurts like my…
I was one of the few people very upset over the ending too….but I’m now over it because I have come to realize that it wasn’t them doing this to themselves but the evil forces aka the writers that broke them up. The writers were so keen on breaking them up regardless. So I’ll just think that since the husband was not shown, our BYJ secretly married HD to protect themselves from the evil forces and they live happily with Minchae. So that’s why her name is different and HD still has all the memories of BYJ. But yeah, the ending hit me hard for days….hang in there….NJH will come back with his side of the story in a new drama so hopefully he’ll have his happy ending.
This is a very good drama, don’t let the ending get to you. This was one of NJH’s best work so far I felt. Kim Tae Ri is a gem, I’m glad this drama will make them more well known if not before. Don’t let the ending spoiled how hard these actors worked.
For those who wanted Baekdo endgame, start the drama middle episode 1 and stop mid episode 15. For those who want the whole thing, watch the whole drama. Do not miss this opportunity to watch this drama thought because of the ending. It’s truly a great drama.
I know everyone has different perspective on how this drama affected them. My take on the ending was this: a missed chance at what could have been a great love for HD and BYJ.
In the end, our HD lost everything that matters to her: fencing and her love/happiness. She is now alone in her workshop with memories of what could have been with BYJ, he is married to his job.
I know the writer has a different intention, but the acting and directing, along with the script ending brings me to this conclusion about our Baekdo couple.
Every theory sounds true but the fact Min Chae didn't know the squad is unsettling for me. You mean they didn't…
It’s like HD disconnect from everything that was important for her, fencing and her friends. So sad how the show ended like that. She was so full of optimism and in the end looks so depressed.
Not sure if I missed it or not but I'm pretty sure it was not told if Yijin got married or not??? Can anyone confirm?Edit:…
Basically my take away from this was that he end up alone and she is in marriage where her husband isn’t around due to his job so she still clinging on to memories of BYJ with her red car, rainbow chairs, and 2521 shop. So they gave up their love and happiness to in the end to end up with regrets on what could have been something magical.
So Minchae and other young viewers….fight for your love ok. It is possible to have young first love that blossom to true love. You have to fight hard for it if you want it to last.
There was no job at US..He reported that terrorist attack and came back to korea.. They would have happily together....…
I agree…that’s why I’m so heartbroken over it. The HD and BYJ we know from earlier episodes would have fought for it. Not give up easily just because of some distance between them. The writers truly ruined this masterpiece KTR and NJH put together.
The pillow scene in episode 15 gave me so much hope in baekdo. The words exchanged between baekdo in all the earlier episodes, so much promises of a blossoming young love. How can you move from that? It’ll be a while before I can (if I ever) find another drama that have this kind of impact on me.
There was no job at US..He reported that terrorist attack and came back to korea.. They would have happily together....…
I agree…no matter how strong KTR and NJH’s chemistry power was, the ending was to break them up. Sucks…breaks my heart because I can never recover from what could have been the greatest coming of age love story ever.
I can't help but think it was the same thing that happened with How I Met Your Mother: it seems like they also…
I agree….up till episode 15, I was holding out for a twist but it didn’t came. Seriously still scratching my head over how they turn this beautiful love story around and end it like that, hurting fans everywhere.
There was no job at US..He reported that terrorist attack and came back to korea.. They would have happily together....…
What I didn’t understand was how he even was there. He wasn’t even a well established reporter at the time so how did they send him when they could have sent someone more senior?
Was the ending a realistic portrayal of a relationship ending? Yes it was…
Was the ending a realistic portrayal of the character and relationship development from the previous episodes? No….
I don’t think the writers and producers were expecting this kind of impact from KTR and NJH pairing. I think they were expecting a low key drama that was smooth sailing. Then all of the sudden it got super popular and they couldn’t save the relationship since they already introduced Kim Minchae earlier on. Sad….had they not introduced that, the ending could have been changed to a coming of age drama about friendship and finding the love of your life. It could have ended so well honestly to become one of the greatest love story. Giving hopes to couples that yes, you can still have a successful career and find the love of your life if you fight for it. Hee Do and BYJ could have had it all.
I felt like episode 1-12 was a whole different drama from episode 13-16. If the end was to break them up regardless, I felt episode 13 was unnecessary. Why pull that whole reporter/subject crap for the entire episode? BYJ was clearly conflicted, they should have started the break up from this point on…he should have friendzone her or they could have hinted at the breakdown of his character. Idk, I felt completely let down by the ending. Sad ending, fine….but forced ending, I hate that the most.
They hugged and cried even at the breakup at the bus stop. They didn’t really want to let each other go.
I think this is what hurts the most. That they just need time apart to sort their feelings and emotions. Why the need for a break up? Because this break up didn’t make them become friends again. It was a bad and unnecessary break up I felt.
Don't blame us for still having hard time accepting the ending. For still being in denial. We received so much…
Yes…..I don’t think I will go back and rewatch this drama for awhile. This drama truly was one of the best ever made except for that last ending. Maybe the writers did wanted to fix the ending, who knows but then they couldn’t because they already introduced Mr. Kim at the beginning. So like all hopeless romantics, we still clung on to the very last hoping there was plot twist.

The winner in this wasn’t HD, it was YR.
