It’s very interesting how JXN relaxed immediately upon seeing ZZ coming to the palace to help her. We can see that she really trusts him. He was really the only person who really helped her in her first life. The others only used and abused her. For me non of the others deserve her guilt over apart from ZZ. He was really the good guy worthy of being the ml.

Yes it is very dark. I honestly still have troubles understanding why JXN is feeling so guilty toward YL. He was the one obsessed with her and imagining a life with her. He never told her nor got her opinion about it. I can understand her guilt for how she treated him when he was at his worst but her guilt toward him was far much deeper. But I also don’t think xw is much better. The girl saved his life by her blood and dragged him under severe weather but he stayed silent watching her bing treated badly and raped. So what if she wanted to be an empress. Does she deserve what happened because she thought she will get recognised and love when she become an empress. For me Jxn was the most pitiful in the first life. She was let down harshly and badly by everyone including her family, YL and XW. The only one who really helped her was ZZ.that’s why I really rooted for him. Too bad the writer wanted the bad misunderstood boy as ml.

They loved each other at first sight in the first life. He was really the guy she loved and thought if she was not an empress, she would have married him. So her love for him didn’t just start in this life.

He is really a very good actor. I can’t be the is only 21. He has this mature aurora around him that makes him very comparable with other much experienced actors. In regards to the drama, sml syndrome hit me so hard on this one. He was the only person who sacrificed for jxn in her first life. He was also reborn and remembers everything but still wanted to be with her in the second life. He was far much more deserving of her rather than yl who did unforgivable things to jxn including raping her or WX who she saved by even giving her own blood and dragged him most of the way to the capital. He would have died without her but he never really appreciated that. He let YL rape her for long. He never even reached out to her in her first life when she was really let down by everyone and cling to the idea of being an empress to get some recognition.

Honestly, even in the novel I was not that convinced. It’s just the writer wanted the FL jxn with xw. For me, zz was a lot better option. I’m over the bad misunderstood boy as a ml.

I personally don’t think she betrayed him in the first life although it looks like it. In her first life, she was ignorant and clueless and unfortunately her family and YL were contributing factor in that especially her family who never helped in educating her. She took YL and his love and care for face value and as it’s not really something special. She became more aware of stuff as she grew older and became an empress and when YL came for revenge and started telling her about it. She really didn’t love YL in the first life too. For her, he was a friend and companion but not love interest, that’s what YL himself didn’t get. In his mind, she was already his even though he never talk about to her directly. Her family even failed her more in this situation because it was kinda agreed upon between both families that they are unofficially engaged but no body told her about it. In her broken mind, she has chased a dream of becoming an empress because she clung to the words of her dad’s concubine that an empress is the most cherished, loved, honored. After being unloved all her life, she thought that by becoming an empress, she will be cherished and loved because no one educated her otherwise. And in her second life, she still didn’t love YL and was more vocal about it to make him understand. She is already trying to help him as much as she could and later will sell her positions to give him and his family needed funds to start over after they are kicked out as traitors from the capital. In this time she really understands better and trying her best to help him. She did use him in the first life for sure and is trying to make amends this time around.

Yes but that toward the end. Everyone knew that YL was visiting her private room and sleeping (raping ) her including XW. The novel is dark really especially the first life stuff and as I summarize, I can just shar as much. He let YL get his revenge on her. For XW what mattered the most is revenge in the first life and even the second life too. But there was this incident that XW overheard. XN was talking with her maid in a very sad way. She was saying that she might remain as an empress. There was a discussion that YL was going to become the emperor and he wanted to marry XW even after all what happened between them. At that time XN was so broken. When XW overheard their. dissection he sent the dagger to XN. In a way to defend herself against YL. But if we think about it it’s fruitless because defending herself won’t get her anything but death because YL was the respective emperor in addition to being physically stronger than XN. Maybe XW just wanted to clear his conscious a bit as XN was really the person who saved his life. there is so much complicated things in this novel especially the characters.

You mean about the rape? XW knew about it but in the first life he didn’t care for XN that much and let YL get his revenge that included raping XN. He felt something I guess after she killed herself in front of him. In the first life, XW was saved by XN in the way to the capital (she fed him her blood and dragged him a long way when she could have left him) but they didn’t have much entanglement after that. For XW, his revenge was the most important thing. He even was ready to kill XN if she threatened his plans. He told her in the novel something like the fact that she is still living until know is enough repayment for saving his life.

ZZ is a good guy. He and XN fall in love at first sight in the first life but she is already an empress and in a loveless marriage with the emperor. ZZ actually save her at least couple of times and get thrown in jail because of her. She feels that she owes him the most. That’s why she asks XW to let him live after her death. His mom died while he is in prison because of saving XN. He couldn’t burry his mom and that was his biggest regret. He was actually the only other reborn person with FL and remembers everything from the first life. They why, they couldn’t stay together in the present life.

In this life, XW will fall in love first. XN doesn’t fall easily for him. She doesn’t believed with history that they can work together. But XW kept going after her.

Yes the dagger had some significance. But we also can’t forget that XW has known that YL was raping JXN for quite sometime and did nothing but gift her the dagger toward the end.

But then if we want to condemn YL that harshly, why should XW get any ley way. In the novel, XW clearly knew she was being raped by YL and did nothing. He was actually the main mastermind of everything and caused the death f alot of people too.

His family is not colluding with rebels. His dad just wrote them asking about the fate of his nephew (who is actually XW). The letters was used as a fake evidence that they collude with rebels when they were not. I think YL starts to see things more realistically after this incidence especially that JXN keeps telling him about her growing up and change of character. He start seeing how he see things only from his point of view only like how he assumes JXN is in love with him just because he is in love with her. This is actually good for him because he got a chance to see things through. In his first life, things took him by surprise when he was celebrating his adulthood.

Shen jie loved her sister not her. It is clearly described in the novel that he didn’t love her. I don’t think she was heartless. If she was heartless she wouldn’t think about helping others in her second life and would only try to protect herself. Her character is very complicated and broken at the same time. She lived 14 years with a woman who turned out the be her kidnapper and only took her to give her real daughter a chance to be a legitimate daughter. She only confessed when she was about to die. Then JXN come to a family that didn’t show her love at all. The mom only cared for the girl she raised and the dad felt guilt he let her run wild instead of educating her. She become clueless and ignorant and cling to the words of the woman who raised her that the most honorable woman is the empress. That’s why she wanted to become an empress. It’s kinda of seeking honor she never had. So sad really.

I just wanted to explain that it’s a lot more complicated that just a simple thing. What stood out to me in the novel in that everyone apart from ZZ is a very grey character. Non of them is simply good or bad. That includes JXN herself, XW and YL. The novel was more detailed. I feel the drama just lacks explaining some stuff. Maybe they will show them later, But I’m not sure about it.

Personally, I was rooting for ZZ the vice minister of justice. He is good hearted a pure person. Their story in her second life is lovey too. It’s just they couldn’t overcome the first life stuff. YL, was my least favorite. But if we want to condemn YL, then XW is not that much better. Yes he had a horrible life but he was the mastermind behind everything and caused the death of many people. That why FL fears him the most and doesn’t want to get entangled with him at all (that’s and the other reason of her thinking that he is her killer). Also XW knew that YL was raping her and did nothing about it.

Par two, afterward she marry his friend and become an empress. The honor she thought she will get was just fake and she start realizing things slowly. At the same time YL had really a horrible life marked as a traitor and lost his family and his dad died due to the hardship they faced. He completely changes and aims for revenge. To him she and his best friend the prince betrayed him in the worst way ever. That why he become the general who destroy the imperial family. He starts going to Jxn room and sleeps next to her, rape her, talks about everything. She feels so much regret and feels responsible for what happened to him. She feels if she told him she will wait for him when he came to her looking for hope, he would not have turn out like this. In her first life, her entanglement with YL and ZZ is a lot more direct and intense in comparison to hers with XW. For her XW didn’t have much direct presence in her personal life. That why, when XW gift her a dagger, she believes that he is telling her to kill herself and that’s why she killed herself. She really believed he is going to kill her himself if she didn’t do it. For her, XW is her killer that why she doesn’t want to entangle with him and fear him. XW gave her the danger to defend herself against YL rape. she thought he is telling her to kill herself. It’s too complicated and I tired to explain it as much as I can.

I totally agree with you. But as someone who read the novel more than one time, I can understand why she is still close to YL but not to XW. I will try to elaborate on it. Please understand that I don’t necessarily agree with it. I’m just describing the JXN point of view. In her first life, the concubine of her dad replaced her daughter with her before she was kicked to the county side. That’s why the concubine daughter got to live as a legitimate fist daughter when she is not. When JZN came back, she was already traumatized by the fact that her mom was not her mom and her bio family just wanted her to be ok with everything. Her mom still loved the real daughter of concubine more than JXN who is her bio daughter. The dad felt so guilty he let her do what ever she wanted. That’s why she became clueless and ignorant. No oneloved or liked her but YL. He let her disguise as a guy and took her everywhere with him. He bought her everything she wanted including very pricy stuff. Her family and his understood it as kinda of an unofficial engagement until the day he turn 18. On the day he turned 18, to him was the day they will become an official couple but that day marked the distraction of his family. That night he went to her because she was his only remaining hope but she closed the doors in his face after telling him she wanted to marry his friend and become an empress (to her becoming an empress was important not because she wanted power, but because she wanted honor and recognition specifically from her family)

Yes he raped her, it was heavily implied not explicitly said due to the censorship in China but it was very very strongly implied.

No, because of the rebirth many things changed. The emperor will have a son actually and the prince who became emperor in first life (who really didn’t want to be an emperor) will remain a prince and he will marry the sister but as a secondary wife not the main wife.

Yes it’s him. But it’s a lot more complicated than that. He actually loved her so much and in their first life he did so much for her including giving her so many pricey presents which all adults understood as part of her dowry but she didn’t get it. She even didn’t know the stuff were pricy until later on ( that’s why upon rebirth in the first episode she ask the servants for the stuff back). When his family was destroyed by the bad people in her first life, he only had hoped that she will be there for him. He actually went to her that night but she kicked him out telling him that she wanted to marry his friend and become an empress. He was destroyed by her words. She didn’t get how she was the reason for his blacking until later on when he got back for revenge. She was really so clueless and ignorant in her first life. He starts going for her room and talk to her and tell her about the stuff that happened when he was exiled with the remaining of his family and how horrible their life became that many died including his dad (and rapes her). She starts feeling how badly she used him and took him and his kindness for granted in their first life. That’s why she is trying to fix stuff and prevent what happened in their first life. I’m not justifying what he did. Just describing the novel events.
