Finally made it through ep 23. Mudan is one strong lady, and I'm happy with how JCY came in to help her while still being respectful of her autonomy. Still, I'm STILL waiting for Wang Qing to get his due and that Princess? Lady is cray cray - I hope she gets taught a lesson or two soon?
Sigh, Liu Chang, please please change your tune; I need you to grow a spine and do something real for yourself and for others for once. I can see his path going either way right now. His character set up and the actor's performance does seem to indicate some amount of redemptive qualities, but I can seem him going the other way too.
I think my main complaint about the past few eps with this Sheng Yi/Wang Qing stuff is that it is too long/dragged out. It's an important part of the overall story about the struggle of women in that time, but I think it could have been abbreviated to move the main leads' story along faster.
I like how both leads are strong, self-reliant people, and they have to learn how to trust people again after what has happened to them. But just like JCY can only get over his past family stuff with the help of Mudan, I'm hoping to see how JCY can help Mudan next without it being just him coming into save the damsel in distress. I'm hoping she can realize that despite receiving his help, it doesn't mean that he owns her or that she has to be indebted to him. Friends - and lovers - help each other, right?
Perhaps the goal of all these episodes is to bring them together, but I think it's about time - it's been how many episodes already lol
Ep 19: Yep, Mudan spoke the words I had been thinking straight to Liu Chang. Guy needs to take a hard look at himself. Sure, the people around him suck too, but he needs to take a dose of reality.
Sheng Yi making troubles vibes is growing more and more after each episodeto me it was more evident she will be…
Unfortunately, this happens quite often in real life with victims of abuse going back to their abuser. It’s a long process sometimes to be truly healed from such relationships
She finally showed her true self in the latter days of their marriage. I think he somehow envies her wanting independence…
He reminds me a lot of Ouyang Xu from A Dream of Splendor. Except Ouyang Xu kind of just turned into a psycho at the end, which was a bit underwhelming. I hope it's more interesting with Liu Chang in this drama.
She finally showed her true self in the latter days of their marriage. I think he somehow envies her wanting independence and fighting for it. On a more cynical note, you could say he is totally self-absorbed. Her leaving him and telling him to his face she despises him and his family made him want to possess her. At any rate, the dude doesn't know what true love is. His parents certainly never helped him in this. He's never experienced anything real in his life - he's been coddled. He doesn't understand human nature; no one has helped him to see how the real world works. He possesses ideals (they are good ideals), but he has no real way to live them out without proper guidance. Dude is on the pathway to some bad ending, I feel, unless someone were to help him. Never read the novel before, but I can see him being a really great villain if used properly.
