I do get you. This is a problem faced my many. But because this is fiction, so firstly we are trying to not think about it. Secondly ML since the first episode has been depicted as someone who is a scumbag. When the drama filming started, they stated there would be a redemption arc, and its before Pingjun fell for him, it wouldn't be FL giving up to ML and accepting him, but ML facing with no other choice than to change himself.
So we are all waiting for that character development arc.

I cried in every episode from ep 9 onwards. It messed up my mind. No body ended up together, deaths of characters, complicated motives ahh. But I really loved it, I was obsessed, and at least Yuanzhi and Shangjue were together and alive, so that's my small happy ending.
