The sad thing is us female viewers often get distracted by our male lead and grow impatient to see her reciprocate his feelings instead of understanding where she comes from and empathizing with her, Feelings do not develop over night and the ML is not without fault either. It was he who kept her as a 'slave' which is degrading since she is a princess and was not aware of his true intent. Besides no girl in her right mind should trust an enemy who is out to take over her beloved kingdom. She had every right to resist plus she had no time for love in her situation like you said especially with someone who is regarded an enemy. Whatever he has done is out of his own choice. But she isn't entirely ungrateful either for all his help which she never asked for in the first place. We have seen her display of gratitude and the potential growth of something more. The way I see it, he is proving he is a worthy suitor and that is the way it should be. I personally like the pacing of the drama since everything is in line with her personality and character making it more relatable and real.

Tell me about it! Can tell you how much I want his character dead. Never felt so much dislike for a male character in drama before. I guess it’s because he is a pawn who only knows how to blindly follow orders rather than put two and two together. I honestly cannot even ship him with Leyan. Wish she'd not fall for him and let him down badly. He deserves to be held in contempt just like Changge did.

Since there are over 50 episodes I don't understand the need to rush. I understand that he is madly in love and would do anything to win her love but he has endured a lot already by 2 episodes for someone he has just met lol. the character growth and his excelling in military warfare happening at the same time too. lol. His character I hope will improve because I'm not a fan at all.

The comedy in the beginning is not exactly my cup of tea but I am guessing it is going to get more serious. Another thing is the romance and character growth are happening way too fast. But I am watching it because of Xu Kai. Hope it won't disappoint.

He is one of those characters who refuse to grow up just like in real life. Friends come in all sorts. He has his use in a sense that it proves a point that Chang Ge is a good judge of character. She misjudged some but he is one of the few she was right to cut off ties with.

I completely agree with you! Unlike many viewers I am not annoyed by her at all. In fact I love that all her actions are in line with her personality and character. I am so glad that this is not one of those run-of-the-mill love story where the girl is swept off her feet by the ML after a few encounters and they team up together. The plot is far more complex than that.
The course of true love never runs smooth, which is why this story is so captivating. The pacing is perfect too. I wouldn't have it any other way.
