The ratings are what they are. Either you believe them or you don't. There are a lot of good shows rated too low,…
"If you think there is mostly negativity about the show, maybe it's a reflection that many people didn't enjoy the show? The majority negative review also seems to support this assertion."

But like most things, you will typically get more people commenting about negative things than positive, as it is usually a way people vent their frustrations and negative emotions. I think the ratings would be more honest than a comment section as most will post a rating and then move on, unless they felt very strongly one way or another. I think 8.1 is a very fair and reasonable rating for this drama. It's not the best drama and it had its flaws but it definitely isn't the worst drama out there and it was still entertaining.

Ah. You replied to my post which made it seem you were directing your response to me. Anyways, this whole whole conversation was dumb and started from some seriously misplaced anger. I'm not going to bother with this thread anymore. Have a good weekend.

Ah. That's why I said this in a previous comment:

"For the most part kdramas are more internationally known, that's for sure, but Untamed was a whole different thing. Ashes of Love, Eternal Love, Nirvana in Fire and Love and Redemption (all favorites) were definitely not this popular."

I definitely agree with you. kdramas typically are more popular internationally, but Untamed was one of those weird outliers.

What? Have you read my comments outside of the Untamed parts? You seem to think I have an issue with the rating. I mentioned in my first post I am actually glad for them getting rid of the bots and would rather have a legit rating, even if it's lower, then a fake padded one. I really don't care if Untamed is #1 or #1000. My opinions are completely separate from others and what others think doesn't make my opinion any less or better. I also will be the first to admit that Untamed has major flaws and issues and Ok not Ok is the better production (another drama I also loved). The only reason I liked Untamed more is simply because it gave me better feels, even though Ok was technically the better drama. I've also agreed with you a few times here. Did you just really skip these parts of my posts?

And MDL rating doesn't honestly mean really anything. This is just some random site that caters to English speaking drama fans and doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. It can be as a gauge for people to decide to watch a drama or not, but otherwise it doesn't mean a low rated drama is bad or a high rated drama is good. It's just opinions after-all.

I actually replied to this below and address some of these points. Yes, most kdramas do better. But Untamed was unique and was one of the biggest international dramas of any Asian country. I give some information in a reply below also for some international stats. Untamed was one of the #1 trends on Twitter a few times (China doesn't have Twitter so it's only international viewers who use it). And I haven't heard of many kdramas doing fanmeets for international audiences. And I had previously mentioned, I had friends who don't watch any dramas come to me talking about Untamed. Something they had never done before (this is just anecdotal of course and can't really be used as facts, but figured I would include it). And the main actor, Xiao Zhan was rated as the #1 in a few list for most Asian countries (it compiled a list from a bunch of influential men from Asian countries including Japan, Korea and Taiwan, among others) after the drama aired.

Anyways, like you I'm not going to keep discussing this. You either believe it or not, I honestly don't care. Either way this whole thread is ridiculous and started from some very misplaced and unnecessary anger. Hope you all have a wonderful upcoming weekend.

what do you mean?
I mean... Untamed was one of the biggest international dramas of cdrama or kdrama in 2019. They had over 1 million international downloads of Tencent for Untamed. Has over 6 million views on YT. Again, that's not counting other international platforms, like Viki and Netflix. It was especially huge in Asian countries (Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, India, even Korea). So big that they held massive fanmeets and concerts in different countries. For the most part kdramas are more internationally known, that's for sure, but Untamed was a whole different thing. Ashes of Love, Eternal Love, Nirvana in Fire and Love and Redemption (all favorites) were definitely not this popular.

But either way I completely agree with you. Blaming some random kdrama on cdrama ratings dropping makes absolutely no sense. It was a site-wide thing and everything was affected.

what do you mean?
I mean. MDL isn't the place to gauge how well something did. Untamed has over 8 BILLION views on the Tencent platform (the platform that initially aired the drama) alone. Not Million, but BILLIONS. And that's not counting other international platforms like Viki (where a lot of international watchers viewed it) and later Netflix. It earned 14 million USD, more then some Hollywood movies make.

Almost every cdrama out there will be more watched then any kdrama by the simple fact that China has over a billion people in their country alone. So even if a cdrama doesn't get any international recognition it would still outpace any kdrama out there. And Untamed was one of the biggest cdramas ever, both domestically and internationally. It also brought tons of people to cdramas. I had people who weren't even into dramas come to me asking what Untamed was or complaining about always seeing stuff about Untamed. I haven't had them do that with a kdrama before.

But on another note. I have no idea how Untamed or any cdrama even entered this conversation. Pretty much every drama on the website dropped (atleast from what I saw) because of the bot ratings being deleted. Start-up rating dropped from like 8.7 or something like that to 8.1 when it first happened. So it was also greatly affected, not just Untamed, Ashes of Love, etc. If the stupid shipwar here was the cause of MDL staff fixing the algorithm to give a more legit rating, then I'm all for it. I would rather the dramas have a real and legit rating then a fake one. And who cares what the rating is anyways? It shouldn't change if you like or dislike a drama. Untamed is one of my favorite dramas ever and I really don't care its rating is now lower. Doesn't change the fact I personally love it. MDL rating is just an opinion of various people and shouldn't affect your opinion of anything.

I finally finished the drama and I must say I absolutely adored the ending. Especially that sexy hand-in-hand power walk in the last scene. Loved it. I also am glad HJP found his happiness, even if that wasn't with Dalmi. He seemed the most happy in the whole drama when he decided to personally invest in the orphan start-up. I also love that Injae reunited with the family and they fully accepted her back without any qualms.

The drama definitely wasn't my favorite of the year and the super long episodes sometimes felt like a slog to get through, but it was entertaining and I liked it enough that I didn't drop it. I always rooted for the adorable puppy Dosan but KSH killed it in the role as HJP. Maybe too well, as I don't think people would have loved his character as much as they did with a less awesome actor. I really hope he gets major recognition for his role after this.

I really wish the writer gave more character growth to the characters before the 16th episode. Every character barely changed and evolved until ep 16. I also wish the sisters stopped their rivalry sooner. We have too many dramas where the women are rivals and not enough where they love, care and support each other. I also wish HJP and Dosan were never love rivals, but that they had a bromance with each other. The drama spent too long pitting them against each other in love. The beginning episodes when they were working together (even if they bickered about it) and the last episode I think were the best, and if they had just carried that through the whole drama I think it would have made things so much better. Love triangles feel so outdated now. Overall I rated it an 8/10 as it had its issues and flaws but was still entertaining and I did ultimately love the ending.

Moral of the story according to the writer:Good deeds won't get acknowledge nor appreciate by others let alone…
But if you think about it. Didn't this all start because of Dosan doing the good deed to help out Dalmi by pretending to be the letter writer? He got the girl in the end so seems like he was rewarded with good karma.

to finish our discussion:Ji Pyeong never poured his heart and his feelings and sincerity in these fake letters…
Except he forgot some important things he wrote. Like he had no idea what his birthday wish was because it was a spur of the moment thing when he saw people playing go stop on TV. I'm sure there were parts that were sincere but the flashbacks showed Grandma helping him write the letters which makes me feel like he was never truly the person in those letters.

Are you so bored and hateful you have to petition people to rate a drama 1 star? Why do you even care? That's fine, you rated it a 1 star, now move on with life and watch something you enjoy.

it's your choice of a fictional character, why should anyone hate you?
There has been a lot of hate thrown at DoDal shippers. I've been called stupid, toxic, immature, childish and more, simply because I shipped the ML in a FICTIONAL drama with the FL. I have not said 1 negative thing towards JiDal shippers but there you go.

I'm really sorry this drama didn't work for you and it being your first one at that. I am honestly surprised anyone…
I personally loved Dosan. He definitely has his flaws and isn't perfect, but I don't like perfect characters as they are boring to me. But I love the sweet, kind men who would move heaven and earth for their love, which I saw in Dosan. And I felt all the characters weren't very well treated by the writer, including HJP. Almost none of their characters had any character growth until the very last episode which is sad. I wanted all the characters to grow more and most didn't.

As for kdramas I would say don't give up hope. The ones I listed almost none of them have a love triangle except I Can Hear Your Voice and that one is very obvious who the ML is (they have a childhood connection where he promises to protect her when he is older and follows through. Plus, he is an adorable puppy.)

We are trying to make sure other people don't waste their time, we're nice like that :)
But you're opinion isn't fact. What you like or dislike doesn't mean everyone will. If that was true the rating would be even lower and this comment section wouldn't be as varied as it is. I have no problem with you rating it a 1 as that's your opinion, but it's just that, an opinion.

WOW I am out of the loop. This drama was by far the most highly rated one for the last like month or so and I…
I can bet after the people disappointed their ship sank all move on and new people watch this later, the rating will rise. The drama isn't the best out there but it was entertaining and had some genuinly nice moments.

Also, why are people so concerned about the rating? People who hate the drama want to see this bomb and are disappointed it doesn't have a lower score, and actually cheer when the score drops. This having a 10.0 rating doesn't invalidate your opinions. There are plenty of dramas I hated that have high scores and vice versa. But just because something I hate does well I honestly don't care. My opinion isn't wrong and neither is yours (no matter if you love or hate this drama). And it's not worth spending the time hating on some random drama. Sometimes if something makes you feel so negative that you root for it to fail, it's best to step away and find something that makes you happy instead.

You are absolutely correct that you didn't say anything about HJP and wasn't fair of me to put those words into your mouth. That was totally me projecting many others comments here onto your comments.

You have some very well and thought out points and even though I don't agree with a lot I still thank you for the thoughtful discussion.

I'll leave it here as quite honestly I don't care enough for this drama to really spend more than I already have analyzing it. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the day! :)

This whole comment section has been a bit of a disaster. There have been some very interesting discussions on both sides, but there have also been some nasty people. No matter what side of the shipwar you are on, please don't insult anyone because their opinions are different from yours. I understand being impassioned about something but this is a fictional drama and really doesn't affect and shouldn't affect anything outside of if you enjoyed it or not. What makes people so wonderful and unique is we each have our own opinions. It isn't fair or mature to invalidate or attack anyone for an opinion. Because all theories and essays are just that, opinions. I've loved reading both sides of this when it's been well thought out discussions and not an attack. So please respect peoples opinions no matter what side you are on. Attacking pr insulting is the worst thing you can do to support your cause. I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Sunday.
