This is a great drama. Even though it’s been 3 months since I’ve finished the drama, I still end up rewatching…
Which shows how much you love this drama too, right?? You ask why I am here so often and said it must be because I love this drama so much. You are not wrong. And you are now showing how much you also love this drama, in your own way.
Reading your comment, and those of quite a few others below, is so gratifying. It reaffirmed the belief of many…
I most certainly agree with you that they really do paying a lot of attention to details.
I do not know if Gu Man wanted YY for the role of Yu Tu, about the same time she wanted Reba to play QJJ. Some people here in this forum say it is, that Gu Man also thought of Reba right from the start. I did not read the novel before watching this drama, but people who did says that Reba fits QJJ to a T, that no one will play QJJ better than her.
If the QJJ character in the drama is like the QJJ in the novel, than the producer or Gu Man has indeed made the wise choice in casting her.
In a drama like this, where the plot is relatively simple, compared to a historical drama, good acting is the key to success. I have a read a number of reports from various sources and many are just praising Reba and Yang Yang profusely, for a great job they are doing in carrying this drama through their excellent portrayal of QJJ and YT, both individually, and collectively when they are on-screen together as a couple.
If E1 to E12 are already this good, we can only imagine what the up and coming episodes will be like. They are likely to mesmerise us even more.

I see. No wonder you can relate so well to what is happening in the drama. You may be younger than your sister, but you can use the example from this drama to encourage her. Ask her don't be too dispaired. If there is a will, there will always be a way.
I rewatched first few episodes (till ep 7 now) and I must say I understand better; love the scripts, they dont…
That seems to the case. Particularly for us who are non-bilingual. Those who are effectively bilingual, I think they can understand this in a single viewing, if there is good English sub. But even then, very often constant looking at the subs means we can miss out some of the subtle body language. A good remedy is always to do re-watch, which you have just done. It would always lead to greater understanding and better appreciation of this, or any other drama.
I can feel Yu Tu's struggle based on Yang Yang's expression and behavior. I guess this is a signal of improvement!
Oh? If you do have a character like his, all the more you will know that Yu Tu is looking stiff because of his character in this drama. If you watch the BTS, you will know that Yang Yang's real personality is hardly like Yu Tu.
It should be, once everyone who has watched it thus far, and who loves it, gives it a 10, to counter fake account holders who, about 3 days ago, came here and dropped it from 8.6 to 8.2 in a matter of an hour. Once everybody does it, even now, the rating should be higher than 8.5
I can feel Yu Tu's struggle based on Yang Yang's expression and behavior. I guess this is a signal of improvement!
He plays a character that is facing a lot of emotional struggles up to this point in time. And YT's personality is kind of an introvert, plus the nature of job means he cannot talk to people much about his job. A struggling introvert with little room for emotional release should have the kind of facial expressions he is wearing right now.
While watching this, you might want to look for the change in his facial expressions whenever he is with Qiao JingJing. As the series progresses from E1 to E12, look out for the way they would use camera angles and the way he would gaze at her (when she is not aware of it). Look how comfortable he would always be, whenever they are together.
Up to E12, lots of stuff will be communicated via his body language and that of Qiao JingJing (the lead female character), to show the evolution of their relationship.
I'm on episode 6, am I the only one who feels like the story is not moving anywhere? I feel like the plot is slow…
If you feel this way, you are likely to have watched this drama without reading the novel. Keep watching is a smart move. You will soon understand the plot better and will not feel that things are slow.
Reading your comment, and those of quite a few others below, is so gratifying. It reaffirmed the belief of many…
You are a highly mature 19, who could somehow relate to all the work issues that have been portrayed. Because QJJ and YT are both 29, in the drama. It is amazing, to me, that at 19, you can bridge that difference of 10 years. Did you by any chance take some part time job?? Hence able to see what the real world is like out there??
Ep 14-16 was so good. I cried when they died. He doesn't seem like the type to murder his brother's family for…
Are you asking a question and do not wish to be spoiled? If you do not wish to be spoiled, I will not answer your question. If you do not mind to be spoiled, I will tell you the answer
Two possibilities. One, endorsement deal with a cosmetics company in China which states she must use that white…
Actually, I was totally focused on her performance and did not really noticed. Until a few people pointed out. And tried to figure out why. And those were the reasons I would think of. Hope it makes sense to you.
U guys ask any decent 30 year old PhD engineer or other occupation in your circle if they can take care of their…
Ok. You really are a very rational guy and I think many will be delighted to exchange views with you.
I think quite a number of folks here know quite a few people with a Phd in his 30s. Perhaps not in engineering, but other specialisation. I would agree with you. Those that I do know are hardly broke or cannot take care of family. But, we need to contextualise our interesting exchange.
We are talking about China in the drama. Where costs of living in Shanghai must be pretty high, and his salary not great. And quite a few have done analysis to support the view that with his current pay, mortgage to pay for his housing, and his parents not rich, with one of them is not so good health. He was really fearful if he could afford the best care for his parents, should anyone of them get into serious illness. His fear is real and not just imagined (by the novel and screenwriter).
I kinda agree with you second point. This is why QJJ had to tell a little white lie and not disclose her true identity, until they met. If she did, he might not even want to meet her. But once he met her, it was a totally different story. He would have known by the first meeting, the girl who had a crush on him now wants him to teach her how to play that game. He was free (taken leave from work). He did not have any ongoing relationship with any girl. And here was this beautiful and successful lady who was once his classmate, whom he had turned with dubious reasons, who now asked him if he could teach her how to play that game, sure, if I were a guy in that position, why wouldn't I be willing to teach her? I would hardly think that I am shallow.
I think you might have ascribed too much pride to his character. Here was this girl, who did not make it to the top University in China, who did not have a Phd, yet is now a highly successful actress known all over Shanghai (and likely China), making a zillion times more money than he was, at this point in time, she is more successful than he is, what is there to be ashamed of when a highly successful individual asked him to teach her something? If she is a begger, that would be a different story.
Assuming I was a guy, and a guy in his position, on the night of the first meeting, I will take my chances. Since QJJ is still single (as she said she is living alone - meaning she was not married), I will harbour the possibility that the old crush she had for me will return. I will see if all the one-to-one coaching sessions will bring about any change in my own feeling toward her. I am on leave for one month. I will see how things go. Anyway, I owe her one, for once rejecting her without a valid reason.
I think my para above could well be what YT was feeling or thinking on the night of their first meeting.
I like this forum for the matured exchange on YAMG. Its interesting to read them. YY and Reba acted well in their…
Reading your comment, and those of quite a few others below, is so gratifying.
It reaffirmed the belief of many people here, that YAMG is a wonderful drama, Reba played QJJ delightfully well, YY likewise did a great job portraying a somewhat stoic YT, up to this moment (to E12, that is).
Yet, many are already able to see their amazing chemistry just from the way YT looks at QJJ. How each time, no matter how depressed he was, her mere presence will be enough to light up his face, and a gentle smile descent upon him (that is clearly evident from the micro expression on his face).
Nothing wrong being old school, as this drama is clearly targetted for slightly older folks, people at least 22 and above. There are other gaming dramas targetted at younger viewers.
So when was this book written? (I thought it was a few years ago because some things are outdated now). I believe…
I totally agree with all the data that you have collected and analysis done. I have no idea how loans are amortized in the China, but generally, they are done such that the loan period is x number of years from one's age to retirement age. Assuming that a person in that industry were to retire at age 65 and YT is now 29-30, we will be looking at a 35 year loan. I have not done loan amortization stuff for a long time not, but I will trust in all your calculations. 4% interest rate sounds reasonable for a housing loan in China.
Yes, with his current salary, he will indeed not have much left, after paying for all the stuff you mentioned. No wonder he was so afflicted with money issues all the time. Even when at the restaurant, taking a meal with his school professor, in front of JJ and everyone, he said it was money issue that made him think about switching job. I do believe that he was uttering facts and not spewing nonsense.
Surely, you must be able to relate to this drama much better than many of us. We already enjoyed it so much and…
I also recommended this drama to my auntie. But, unfortunately, she said she does not like to watch modern dramas and prefer Chinese dramas with historical setting. I think I will recommend this drama to slightly younger people, because my auntie is already 80 plus years old. Maybe she is too old to relate to some of the life issues in this drama.
Why are they giving her a lighter foundation tone than her actual skin colour they also didnt blend in with neck…
Two possibilities. One, endorsement deal with a cosmetics company in China which states she must use that white foundation for this drama. Two, prior to filming of YAMG, she just finished filming TLB. Not much time to rest. I read an article which says some scenes, she looked tired. So, they used a white filter, either during filming or post production, to make her face more white and less sleepy looking.
I disagree that the story of his work colleague has terminal disease is weak. With that kind of stress and work…
I totally agree with your observation in the 1st para. We can clearly see this in the interaction between YT and QJJ. Each time she wants to start a conversation, YT will said can't talk about it, due to confidentiality issue. Prolonged bottling up of the need to express oneself can easily add to stress, and stree to lowering to a person's resistance to all kinds of germs, latent bad stuff in the body, etc. thus leading to cancer.
Already any ordinary person can get cancer, for tens of unknown reasons. People in those kind of jobs, the probability might even be higher (even if we do not have primary research data to prove this beyond the shadow of doubt).
For me, the plot is totally believeable. High stress, long working hours, no opportunities to talk about work related issues, equate to higher chances of getting cancer (and all kind of other illnesses).
