Nice! Them reminiscing those highlight moments when they were in the same scenes in the drama also help us do…
I see. Then I seriously doubt Tecent will release new BTS then. At most old ones with Eng subs. And we are not even sure Tencent did the Eng subs. I think as far at TLB is concerned, Tencent has more or less moved on.
Yep, I'm on a break. Watching some of our American shows but I do still pop in to chat with y'all ;)
I don't think any one seriously cares about that. No awards are given. But we do marvel at what went on here. Yes, no doubt some day this section will be surpassed. But, I do not think it will be soon. Takes a lot creative effort to produce a drama as good as this.
Just looking the evidence, the kind of stuff we get out there, screenwriters are lacking in creativity. Good actors/actresses are not easy to come by. Actresses who can play rom-com roles, plenty. Just need a young one who can act cute in front of the camera. Looking at the poplution of China, there should be plenty of those out there. But actresses who can portray serious and complex roles, not easy. Likewise for actors.
So that 'someday' is likely to be some years down the road. When that drama comes along, all of us will here will be analysing, what made that TLB slayer that good.
You are very well informed concerning what goes on with those two in China. Amazing!
That is good news, even if it is bit shocking for YAMG. TLB just finished. I thought they will space it out a bit more. But perhaps there are other stuff that Tencent wants to show and they want to quickly get YAMG out of the gate.
Legend of Anle should be a good one for Reba. I will be looking forward to it
Just out of curiosity, who hires the script writer for a drama? The director?Does the author of the book has any…
Very likely the producer hired both the script writer and director. Author of a book owns the rights to the book. Producer will need to negotiate with author, for the screen adaptation, how much deviation is allowed. Sometimes, the author for a drama is also the screenwriter, if the producer has confidence in him/her, and if the author does not mind.
In the case of this drama, author is not the screenwriter. But producer has authority over screenwriter. So, if producer is not happy with the script, he can ask the screenwrite to re-write or to consult the author.
Every drama is a money making venture. The producer will not want a drama to be butchered by a poor script. A good drama director will not also want to direct a drama that has a poor script. Big name actors/actresses will not want to act in a drama with poor script. Especially one as big as Dilraba. So, lots of people will be doing quality control on the script. It will not be case where script writer can just write anything she/he wants, and get away with it.
Actually, just about everyone is doing quality checks on everyone. Big name actresss/actors wants to make sure producer, script writer, director are good. Producer wants to make sure a script is good, and he will pick a good director. And the producer and director will together pick actresses and actors whom they feel can deliver. They cross check each other all the time before putting their signature on a contract.
So, we need not worry too much about the reputation concerning the scriptwriter.
I have been following this on Weibo for months, Reba has signed the intent to do this play a while now - it's…
It is good then. After TLB, she will want a role like this. A role she knows she can excel. The role should be good. And the script should be good. By now, Reba does not need any kind of rubbish script just thrown at her. Gone are those days. She will likely have read the script, before signing on to this drama. I do not think she cares too much who is the ML. She will have good chemistry with whoever is cast as the ML.
Really? It will be great if the rumour is found to be true. But TLB just finished airing not long ago. I thought July is bit too close. Of course, if it does air in July, many people will be very happy.
But they are lots of kisses in the novel which are very important for the story! I hope his wife gave him permission…
If there are lots of kisses in the novel, and those kisses are central to the plot, and this director, knowing his preference after ELOD, he will want the leads to do those kisses. Maybe that is why they asked his wife to have dinner with Dilraba, so that Reba can reassure her not to be alarmed by those kisses. She can reassure her, it is all part of the show. She has done many before and nothing happened between her and all those ML she kissed.
I don't thinkthe rating in MDL matters too much anymore. Producer and director of TLB looking at the broadcast in Korea, and later, maybe in Japan. Also, someone said, TLB may be shown on national TV in China. And then hopefully, in Netflix. All those will really help to pick up more viewership.
And next year, awards will be given out for dramas aired this year. If TLB wins big, Yan Bei, the producer and director Chu will be really happy.
For us, we can drive viewership up by just a bit. Through word of mouth, comments here. If we really want rating to get to 8.7, may need humongous effort on our part. We need need to get friends to sign up just to put in 9 or 10. And lots of friends!
I also notice a big gap between number of watchers and number of users. Users must refer to raters. Watchers likely include both raters and viewers who did not rate. Asking viewers who did not rate to do the ratings could be risky. Some did not rate, because they feel that they may not rate it highly and will bring the rating down.
You are very well informed concerning what goes on with those two in China. Amazing!
Really? That is great! I know many are waiting for You are my glory to be shown. Maybe YAMG will be shown in September/Oct this year and The Blue Whisper summer of next year.
I know she is also slated for Legend of Anle. But, it is actually better to have a modern drama in between two historical, rather one historical after another. Less boring for viewers. Perhaps there isn't a good script and rather than waiting for one to come along, she just went for the Legend of Anle, or the Legend of Anle is so good and she is so popular now, better to ride on this wave of popularity.
I kinda like this slower time break. It gives me time to catch up and keep up. Before, when TLB was airing, even…
This is so true. We can still find comments we posted a day ago. Those were crazy days indeed. All comments made were simply buried within a few hours, never to be found, unless you keep srolling page after page
Yep, I'm on a break. Watching some of our American shows but I do still pop in to chat with y'all ;)
If 30k is the number we are looking at, TLB will be number 1 in no time at all. Even if we take away some unrelated posts, the number of comments that are truly discussive in nature and are relevant to TLB wil be more than 30k by the end of June or mid July. There is hardly any need for us to force anything at all. New people coming in just about everyday. And old timers are coming back, as soon as they finished their studies, or job assignments.
No awards wll be given anyway, but we can at least tell people we were part of this crazy crazy community that just refuses to go away quietly
MK916 has downloaded the manhua. That should generate some new comments. But we must always do it tactfully. Don't…
Yes, your effort in making the manhua easily assessable is much appreciated by all of us. I can already see one immediate possible outcome, which is to make us appreciate the drama even more.
I see alot of snow scenes in the manhua that we do not see in the drama. But I can fully understand. They filmed this drama last summer, in the midst of the pandemic. Not easy to move to high mountainous area to film those winter scenes. And they probably do not want to make Reba wear all those winter clothes in summer and then use CGI to create all those snow and mountain we see in the manhua. Would have delayed the entire project by months.
You are very well informed concerning what goes on with those two in China. Amazing!
I thought Reba is filming her next project? She is filming any commercial, right? Just being named as brand ambassador for 3 new products? Well, she is the queen of commercials. She very likely makes more money from those, than from acting. But she would very much prefer to be filming a drama or a movie, than filming a commercial, regardless of the financial consequence.
And if she has learned anything at all from playing Li Changge, she will be laying down conditions for her husband-to-be, and not the other way round. Number one, you must allow me to do this. Number two, you must allow me to do that. Number three, do not ever tell me how many kids we must have.
No matter how many times I've stated that I am absolutely in love with The Long Ballad, I still feel as if it…
No matter how many times you feel you need to repeat what you said, just remember, you can never overstate it. You are a 'deep' viewer who do not view a drama just to be entertained, but consider what it means for you at a personal level. Very few viewers out that do that.
I can also understand why you are so taken by the Li Changge character. You very much identify with her, for reasons you do not need to ever reveal to anyone, but you certainly identify with her. Throughout this drama, Changge was asked many times, what is your Tao? If I am not wrong, the first time was by the old Mr Qin Lau. And then again at Liuyun Temple by the head of the temple. And the second time was very powerful because she stood in front of that huge calligraphy for so long. Pondering, wondering, asking, what was her Tao.
And by E49, we all know what her Tao was. Or Changge finally knew what her Tao was. If you feel that you have found your own Tao, you have taken away much more from this drama, then those who watched it for entertainment.
The excellent acting of Dilraba made the journey of Li Changge real. She jumped out of the manhua into our living room, in our computer monitor, laptop screen, mobile screen. Actually, truth be told. She did more than that. Those who have read the manhua know better, because the manhua ended very early on and the screenwriters, with full permission from Xia Da, extended and expanded her character. She had to do more than the Changge in the manhua. Xia Dan just had to put her ink at the right place to show Changge's sadness. Reba had to put her face in front of the camera. She is a real person. Those drawings are, just drawings.
If you do not sense sadness, anger, joy, relief, disappointment, and all the other emotions she was trying to convey, you would not have responded the way you did.
Those of us who are still here, since joining this forum about a month or so ago, are here because of the same reasons you keep coming back, the moment you have the time. This, here, is a family. A family of like-minded friends all charmed by TLB. This is a community that does not judge. Differing opinions are welcome. We just hope for opinions that are more informed, more thought-out. In the end, we know we cannot convince everyone to see the way we see, to think the way we think, about this drama. But we can certainly take comfort that there is an army of people here who do. This is forever a safe haven for TLB lovers.
Slightly confused. What do you mean it starts from their wedding?
Ok. I know where you are coming from. TVB's era is over long ago. For historical dramas, Chinese dramas killed them. For me, the production setting simply made all their production look really amatuerish. The Hengdian studio in Chian is one big historical drama killer. It not only killed TVB's historical dramas, but it very likely also killed historical Kdramas. All their sets looked really small. I found it so funny while historical Kdramas, The walls around their buildings are so low, you can easily jump over by putting a chair.
In terms of modern dramas, Hong Kong dramas are no match, in terms of story telling and acting. Those Korean actresses are really good. I used to feel that they are like taps in our homes. They can cry as easily as we can get water from our taps.
Like you said, TVB's era was in late 80 and 90s. They got killed by the K-wave and the C-wave.
"Eternal Love" started the Xianxia genre craze in China. I don't think another Xianxia drama will ever get the same response that it did, as viewers are now used to that genre. All of the CGI stuff they did for "Eternal Love" can be easily replicated and have been replicated to varying degress of sucess.
I started on Ashes of Love, but not sure why I could not get beyond the first episode. I do know that show is rated highly and many people do like it
I cannot say that I am a fan of Reba. I merely found her look very un-Han Chinese, and would later understand why. It is due to her ethnic background. I was not very impressed by her acting in Flame's Daughter (2017). It was passable, but not really outstanding.
Actually, finding out her ethnic background made me appreciate her more, in the sense that we can all sense racism still exists in China. We know what kind of competition she had to fight against. Not just against the acting skills of A-list Chinese actresses, she had to fight hidden racism.
I was told, so many of her anti-fan said she does not look Chinese enough to act in historical Chinese dramas, and she does read all those comments and was affected, to the extend that she nearly turned down playing Li Changge in TLB.
So, many people are happy, the producer and director managed to change her mind. And we got to her real acting spectrum on full display. Not sure if you are aware, but when TLB was screened in China, she was rated the top actor in China of any gender, beating even male actors who are bigger stars than her.
Like you, Wu Lei was also a discovery for me. Never watch a single drama he acted in. None. But his performance in TLB was truly outstanding. I will also be looking out for his next drama. But I am not fan-driven but acting-driven. If he does not act well in his next drama, it is bye bye for me (for that particular drama).
Same for Reba. Her next project, if her performance is not good, I will not be hanging around.
But, we all hope and are confident, both Reba and Wu Lei will do well in their next projects. Their acting journey in TLB would have helped them to take their acting to the next level. I cannot imagine how these two will regress, after TLB. Not just for them, but all the young stars in LTB, too many to name here, but we know who they are. I think they too will improve, after TLB.
So, after TLB, I am still hunting. Hunting for another historical drama this good. I usually look at the big picture. TLB is not perfect. There are errors here and there. But as a package, all things considered, there is nothing that come close currently.
So, I still ended up with re-watch after re-watch and coming here to share the joy of like-minded individuals who cannot move away from TLB. We will, eventually. It just takes time.
Yep, I'm on a break. Watching some of our American shows but I do still pop in to chat with y'all ;)
Not sure when you joined this section. I think I joined this when there were only about 15k comments. It was very hot then, as lots of people wanted this section to beat the one at The Untamed. And now, some may even want this section to be the highest in MDL ever. I don't know which drama has that honour currently and what is the number we are chasing.
I should think we are both of timers. You must have joined this section quite a while back?
