Got it. So, just how does her character cause you annoyance and lessened your enjoyment of the show??
She character in this drama is not simple, as she had many relationships with many people. With the Khatun, with his brother, with Mujin, with Changge. So, which relationship irked you the most? And why??
Consider this drama:Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Sabre (2019)
This was aired in early 2019, which means filming took place in 2018. The ML, Joseph Zheng is 23 today. So, they filmed that drama when he was only 20.
Wu Lei is 22 today. He was 21 last year, when they filmed TLB. So, he was actually older than Joseph, when Joseph filmed Heavenly Sword. But Joseph did have at least one kiss scene with the FL, Yukee Chen, in that drama (Heavenly Sword).
So the age hypothesis does not seem to hold for his no-kiss scene in TLB. More likely, Wu Lei has a no-kiss clause in his acting contract. That is a more likely explanation, since all his previous dramas, he did not do any kisses.
No one has actually seen his acting contracts, so whatever we talk about are just hypothesis. And there is no way he is going to show his acting contracts to the whole world. We are just saying, given the evidence, which hypothesis holds better.
And thus far, the no-kiss contract holds up better. And as Wu Lei gets older and he still does not do kisses, the no-kiss clause will seem more and more likely, rather than the under-age argument.
In any case, the age argument really does not have any credibility, because Joseph Zheng did the kiss scene when he was merely 20. If the legal age to do kiss scenes in China is 19, then, the under-age hypothesis does not hold any water, cause Wu Lei was 21, when he filmed TLB.
You are very well informed concerning what goes on with those two in China. Amazing!
I got you. She is a professional. Depending on what that commercial entails. If it is just photoshoot, she can do those in seconds. I mean she has done countless of those. But, if the commercial involes getting her to dance around and rehearse some moves here and there, it will take more time.
The Kronenbourg 1664 event, that just requires her turn up for a photoshoot? If so, she can easily do that, and then go back to the production set. Or, they can time it such that the photoshoot occurs during a lull in her filming. I cannot imagine that she will be needed on set 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
She graduated from the Shanghai Theatre Academy. I am sure people at the Academy are mighty proud of her. And I am hardly surprised that she has some of the biggest adverts in Shanghai. Probably in Beijing too. She is the queen of endorsements. No scandal. Exceptional off screen personality, as can be seen from all the interviews that she has done.
Do you mean, is there a love triangle? Technically yes, if by third wheel, you mean a love triangle. A loves B…
It is ok. I understand you fully, when you used the term third wheel. It is a literal translation from Chinese to English, with the same meaning. When there is a love triangle, there is a person who a third wheel in that relationship. Same meaning.
So yes, please continue to watch. Because there is zero backstabbing. When you watch, you will agree with me that there is no backstabbing.
Yep, I'm on a break. Watching some of our American shows but I do still pop in to chat with y'all ;)
I just checked. Start-up is a Korean modern drama. 16 episodes. They have 30169 comments on the MDL page, which is also crazy, when you consider, they only have 16 episdoes.
TLB has 49 episodes and is a historical drama
Modern Kdramas tend to have broader appeal compared to historical Cdrama. So, they will attract a wider overseas audience, compared to a historical drama like TLB.
But, in terms of vierwership, I do not think they are match for Cdramas. Because of the size of the Chinese market
Anyway, comparing the number of comments here with Start-up make not even make too much sense, given that they are different genre, and then from different countries.
People here who want us to beat them do it purely out of a sense of wanting to be number 1 in MDL, even though beating them does not mean very much
I'm Currently at episode1 and I remember is their a third wheel?
Do you mean, is there a love triangle? Technically yes, if by third wheel, you mean a love triangle. A loves B but B loves C kind of stuff. There is.
But this is very well handed by the screenwriters. There is no backstabbing. Those caught this this love triangle are very honest with each other. And this is quickly settled. You will not feel any anger toward any one.
E49. The tree-trunk-under-the-moonlight scene. I just re-watched it for the umpteen times. Noticed some interesting…
You mean to win an award for screenwriting, if there is such an award? I hope so too, and I think they will win. Especially, if they consider the fact that the manhua got stuck, and the screenwriters had to write their own story the rest of the way. For many other dramas, the novels or manhuas were already completed. Screenwriters really had less to do.
And puting 21st century mindset into people with 620 AD bodies and context isn't exactly an easy task. They had to make sure people can stomach this.
They are certainly helped by our two leads though. Dilraba and Wu Lei really made it believeable through their excellent screen chemistry and excellent portrayal of Changge and AS.
You are very well informed concerning what goes on with those two in China. Amazing!
Do you mean she is actually filming commercials while filming The Blue Whisper concurrently? That can't be right. Maybe these commercials were filmed previously and just released now?
Don't worry about the Legend of Anle. She is way too smart for the scriptwriter. She can read drama script. Pretty sure of that. In fact, very likely, she is not the first line of defense against a lousy script. That script must clear people at Jaywalk studios, before it lands on her desk. Jaywalk will never allow one of their biggest stars to be exploited.
Does anyone want to convince me not to drop this? I watched up to episode 9 and skimmed through a few more episodes…
It will really really depend on what you are looking for. What you find to be draggy and boring and what you find to be good. If you can tell us what you look for in a drama, we can tell you when it will start to get good.
For many of us here, good started from Episode 1, and did not even end after final episode as we were looking for more.
So, please share with us, what do you look for. What makes a drama draggy, and what makes a drama good, as far as you are concerned.
*smiling bigI'm glad you pointed these out cuz that's what I noticed too :-)
To be honest, I only noticed it after several rounds of watch and re-watch, flipping camera shots back and forth. If you noticed it more effortlessly, you are more observant than I am
Do not take comments blindly. Some viewers do not understand the ending, so they said no happy ending. Watch it for yourself.
Like I said, come back to this section. Anything you do not understand. Just ask in this section. Lots of people here can explain lots of stuff to you.
This is only if you haven't seen 'The Legends' casting Bai Lu & Xu Kai as leads.I'd say the ML in 'The Legends'…
It would appear to me, in historical dramas at least, Ashile Sun is truly unique. But so is Li Changge. Is because she is smart, knows martial art, and can quite fully capable of taking care of herself, that he can trust her. Changge could be over-trusting of others at time. But after what she has gone through? AS knows she can read people better now.
Relationship chemistry is always mutual. Cannot have one without the other.
I watched Maiden Homes a while ago. To be fair, cannot quite remember if she was as kickass as Changge, or possess the full set of traits that Changge had: smart, knows martial art, can save the ML as much as the ML can save her, character growth, etc.
In the case of TLB, Changge provided so many ideas for so many things that turned out right. The most important of which was to plan and execute the rescue of the ML. She provided the idea to foil the Khatun's scheme to have the Bears division kill off the Eagles. I lost count how often her intelligence was on display.
In the end, this drama was about Changge. This is her story. If we see the beauty of Ashile Sun, but not the uniqueness of Li Changge, it just makes me scratch my head. Why??
But notice how he only gets really drunk after very intense scenes where he learns shocking news.
If he gets drunk after intense scenes, we can understand. If he get drunk all the time, it could be due to acting range. Sometimes, they sign up an actor/actress thinking that person can act certain roles well. And then during filming, they discovered that the actor/actress cannot deliver. So, what do they do? I suppose drunk scenes will be really easy to do, for a guy. For a female actress? Not sure. The director will have to figure that out, and see what sort of scenes the actress can do well, if a casting error is made.
But, my apologies. I did not really observe Sheer all that carefully, as he was not a key character. Certainly not as important as the big five.
She character in this drama is not simple, as she had many relationships with many people. With the Khatun, with his brother, with Mujin, with Changge. So, which relationship irked you the most? And why??
Just trying to understand where you come from

Because of that, it made this scene so hilarous.
