E49. The tree-trunk-under-the-moonlight scene. I just re-watched it for the umpteen times. Noticed some interesting…
Yup. Plenty of those out there. Even when the male lead and female lead already know that they love each other, they still let misunderstanding come between them, when a simple open communication would have resolved it. Lots of this kind of drama.

In fact, one of such drama is still screening now. I stopped watching after a few episodes. The comments section of that drama started 12 months ago. To date, only 209 comments. Many people in there mock the scriptwriter, for using endless round of misunderstanding between the two leads to prolong the series. The rating in MDL is 7.8.

In history, Khatun or Princess Yi Cheng was really created a Princess, and married off to the grasslands for peace between Sui and the Eastern Turkic Khaganate . She was indeed passed around from one Khan to another. But, she was only ruthless in the drama; that part is totally fictional, written into the story by the screenwriters. They needed a villain

Your 2nd para, should there be an award for screenwriting, they should win it next year.

seriously, will this ever get to an 8.7??
With 2624 raters already rated this, we will need hundreds of raters to rate this at 9 and above, to move it to 8.7

I thought so, because your nickname is unfamiliar. Welcome to this happy family! We love newcomers. Especially their views, insights, etc. to enhance our appreciation of this drama.

Do not be afraid to express them, even if you feel that your views are not too aligned with the majority. Here, we really respect everyone's opinions. We believe in healthy discussions, where those may lead to

Yep, I'm on a break. Watching some of our American shows but I do still pop in to chat with y'all ;)
It will. Newcomers to this section will take it to new heights, once old timers like us start to fall off. Or maybe some old timers will find new inspiration from somewhere and make it livelier. There are dramas will a similar section that are still alive in MDL, five years after their broadcast. No reason why this section will die in 5 years.

MK916 has downloaded the manhua. That should generate some new comments. But we must always do it tactfully. Don't…
Japanese do have smaller eyes compared to Chinese. If I am not wrong, even Koreans have smaller eyes compared to Chinese. I have not read any manga for years. All I could recall is those huge eyes in Japanese mangas. Perhaps Xia Da delibartely do it, so that her manhua will be well receive by Japanese readers.

Yes yes! This will be a great help. I find the text rather small. And if we enlarge them, due to the poor resolution, they become blurred. I am just starting to read the manhua

I feel the same. Theirs is a modern day relationship, even if the setting of this drama is historical. Even the character Li Changge is very modern day. And our AS. That is why they are both fictional.

A Tang princess like the one we saw in the drama or see in the manhua, in real life? Hardly possible. Princesses were just not doing all those stuff that Changge did (archery, horse riding, war strategies).

I read up a bit on history. It seems, during those times, lots of princesses were used as political tools in political marriages, like the one we nearly see in TLB, between Sheer and Leyan.

So they were more likely to be trained in whatever will make their future husbands happy. So, maybe skills like playing the zither or other musical instruments, embroidary, singing, dancing, etc.

Very few husbands during those times will want a wife who can debate with them about war strategies. Will be an insult to their ego.

Likewise our AS. A grassland general from the Eastern Turkic Khaganate, no way he will behave like that toward any girl from the grasslands, much less toward a girl from the central plains. A princess from the central plain usually ends up like the Khatun in our drama, passed around from Khan to Khan. Just an instrument of pleasure and procreation.

So, that must have been the grand strategy of the screenwriters for TLB. They really wanted to write two very modern characters, even if the setting is historical, or precisely because the setting is historical. And then tell us, see? This is possble, even more than a thousand years ago. Possible to have someone like CG and someone like AS. Possible even to have a very modern couple relationship with mutual trust and respect back in 628 AD.

And maybe, just maybe, we also know that while this is not possible or highly unlikely, we take this work of fiction and imagine for ourselves, what it would be like to have a relationship like that. An inspiration for a modern day wife or a modern day woman (some may not see the need to get married)? or modern day guy or husband? modern day couple relationship?

Many will watch TLB just for entertainment. Some might just be inspired.

It is ok. Nice to take a break and watch something else. Not possible to be stuck with TLB all the time.

Sooner or later, some will even move on from this comments section. But others will join. Newcomers will need to takeover and keep this section alive. If history is any indicator and TLB is really good, it should happen

Ok, there is no video, am I right? Only the written text of Esha Chakraborty. Or did I miss the video?

Ok. Thanks for this tip. Are you new here? Just a silent reader who just decided to join us? Or an old time who went on hiatus? Or you have been participating all along and I was just not observant enough?

I am one of those not used to the manhu style from China or manga from Japan. I think Xia Da was influenced by mangas from Japan. They have many of those young girls with really huge eyes.

To get eyes as big as those, they would have had to spread Reba's eyelids, and stick them with some kind of strong invisible tapes

E49. The tree-trunk-under-the-moonlight scene. I just re-watched it for the umpteen times. Noticed some interesting stuff and not sure if anyone feels the feel

Lots of other dramas, writer would often use the lack of communication between ML and FL to bring about misunderstanding between the two. Notice how little of that is in TLB. There was quite bit between them. But those were during times when they could not reveal their true identities to each other, and this was so due to the main storyline.

But once they got on the same level emotionally, perhaps starting from E31 or even earlier, they communicated with each other contantly. So much so that at that E49 scene, when AS related his plan with Li Jing to Changge, and Changge said why didn't you tell me that, AS had to apologise to her and said that he will never dare do it again. I thought it was really cute.

And when AS moved on to accuse Changge of being a cheater, not wanting to fulfil those three promises, she quickly asked him to name the second promise. And then the third. He did not say what the third wish was, but we all know what it is.

I mean, it really does show that their relationship has reached such a point where they could express what they do not like about each other so openly. There is no defensiveness on either party. No prolonged couple quarrelling which can be really annoying.

And it did not happen in E49. Way before that. I think this level of understanding and trust was achieved as far back at E31. I think that episode, Changge realised just how much AS loved her, to the extend he was willing to forgive her for whatever role she played in his mother's death. Prior to that, they still could not read each other's minds and emotions accurately.

I mean, screenwriters really ought to learn from TLB. Be creative and not rely on the same misunderstanding-due-to-lack-of-communication plot to lengthen a drama. Even if they were adapting from a novel that has lot of that, during their adaptations, they really ought to come up with something different. Or, it will just annoy viewers, leading to poor ratings and poor viewership.

Anyone feels the same way?? Noticed the same thing, or maybe you feel differently??

I love doing comparisons. But reading the manhua is a bit of a challenge for me. All the dialogue go from right to left. Will need some adjustments.

Many are taking a break. Could be busy with other stuff. It is ok. We all have other things to do. But always nice to come and check if others have posted new comments or discovered something new that we missed. There always new comers, joining just to ask if they should watch this drama. If they come back to share their views after watching, that will help generate new traffic for this section

You are very observant. He was not one of the major characters in the series, so I hardly pay any attention to those scenes when he was by himself.
