Zhang Yi is giving another great performance in a crime drama. I am through episode 11 and I am hooked. I don’t know but maybe even 5 years ago a drama like this, that centers around government corruption in the judiciary no less, probably would not been produced and aired. Of course in the end the corrupt officials will be brought to justice and punished. I can recall a couple of dramas recently (iQIYI’s A LIFE FOR A LIFE being one) where official government corruption was part of the plot so this subject matter is being allowed to be dramatized. One thing I am finding interesting in IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE is the presence in the story of a ‘Party’ official and reference to the Party. Often times in the past the terms ‘higher ups’ might have been used to signify Party officials.
A Hong Kong crime/cops drama with Cantonese audio and English subs on iQIYI, I will definitely be there. HOMELAND GUARDIAN just came on my radar today. Great to see Simon Yam still doing his thing. Tencent Video’s SEE HER AGAIN (2024) with ML William Chan was my last HK/Cantonese drama. I really enjoyed the remake of the 2017 kdrama OCN’s TUNNEL.
Watch The Treacherous to learn about the king this was based on. Changing his name and calling it fictional doesn’t…
I am with you. The source material made this drama aka THE TYRANT’S CHEF a no go for me. I really enjoyed the director’s 2024 MBC drama KNIGHT FLOWER but that is not enough for me to commit.
iQIYI’s THE LOST NATIONAL TREASURE is an excellent production. I came to this drama because of Bai Yu Fan (RIPE TOWN (2023)) and I was not disappointed. Great performances by a great cast. The drama starts in the early 2000s and goes to about 2012/13 I think (from flip cell phones to smart phones. The drama was a balance between presenting and explaining the hard work of archeologists and Chinese cultural preservation and a police/mystery tracking down tomb raiders. At times the crime side may have had more emphasis (middle episodes) but towards the end the archeological part of the story came back into focus. Well done.
US viewer here. CRIME HUNT is available at iQIYI. I have iQIYI on Roku so I can watch dramas on TV. I just checked episode 3 and english subs are now available, HOWEVER, the english subs in white are superimposed over white chinese subtitles making it very difficult for me to read/watch. I am afraid that js a deal breaker. 26 episodes of that would be too much for me.
Are you watching LTY’sperformance in the currently airing iQIYI drama THE LOST NATIONAL TREASURE? He is giving a terrific performance as archeologist Guo Shi Lin.
Releasing thru disney+ automatically decreases the number of international viewers who would normally watch a…
I was hoping to get to watch Lee Jong-suk in this drama but Disney+ is a no go for me. I chose years ago not to patronize the ‘dark side’ so LJS’s 2017 SBS drama WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING will have to be my last LJS drama.
This is a pass for me. The problem for me is that the source material which is the basis for this sageuk, web novel "Surviving as Yeonsan-gun's Chef" by Park Kook-jae specifies who the king in the drama is based on. According to the following Wikipedia article on King Yeonsangun he is, “ Often considered the worst tyrant in Joseon's history and perhaps all Korean history,” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeonsangun_of_Joseon Do we really need a foodie sageuk about this tyrant?

I visited Xi’an on tour in 2016 and visited the excavation site of the Terracotta Warriors. Incredible.

Check it out. It may work for you.
