right right! Its just freakish cause the them two kind of resembled these two older actors. The actors who played the older versions were brilliant ( especially the one who played jia han), but to me they just did not look like their younger counter part which I think threw me off for the last few minutes of the movie. It probably wasn't the handsomeness, but again it threw me off cause they looked nothing alike edward or Jing Hua, so I kind of felt detached when watching the last few minutes of the scene. But i guess it worked in the movie, cause when watching them in present time scene, it was like the characters of Jia han and Birdy died, which made the end scene more sad and maybe more impactful.....

ooo this one is a stretch but Fairy From Wonderland (2006). Funny thing is that I think this drama would fit perfectly well with TMOPB universe along with the other two dramas Eternal Love 2 and love and Destiny. Its just its a little older and the graphics might be a little off putting. Plot is bland too, more a "cutsey coming of age" drama. But If bai Qian and yehua becomes ruler of heaven, then then you might notice a little "bai qian" around, that story fits in the the universe narrative....hehehe

watch the anime, read the donghua or read the novel first. the drama doesn't do it justice. i don't think you can appreciate the drama version cause its "highly edited". I think most fans have already read the novel before watching this....

Wow compare to your knowledge of wuxia, mine pales in comparison. The condor triology is probably my favorite wuxia story ( again i don't know alot, probably just most of Jinyoung's works). My favorite couple ( might be generic) would be Yang Guo and XLN and second Huang rong and Guo Jing. LCY and WCY story was one where I recently found interest in when I went back to reread the novels( translated so I can't really understand the full details).
With LCY and WCY, It was never specified why they didn't end up together, as it even mentioned that they had no other reasons "not" to be together, but i theorized that it was actually because deep down Wang Chong Yang felt that he was inferior to Lin Chao Ying.
In actuality, i think Lin Chao Ying's Martial Arts would have been number 1 had she participated in Hua Sect. But because she did not care for such, she did not get the recognition. the only glimpse we have to her skills is through the Ancient tomb sect student, and the only two( XLN and LMC) have been probably the most fearsome ppl to walk jianghu.
WCY disciples might have said that LCY skills were a tier below WCY and he went easy on her when they had their duel, but I doubt the words of those Taoist( as they are obviously bias towards their master and were to proud to believe that about WCY). Obviously its romantic in a way, as LCY and WCY probably started out as rivals, but as war and failure occurred in WCY life, he became jealous of LCY and even envied her. Love turned to hate and thus with hate, he rejected her feelings. Everyone thought that LCY stayed angry and bitter, but actually her feelings remained true, evidenced by the Jade maiden Heart sutra. Also WCY wanted to make something of himself, but he did not know what to do with his life. LCY saw his potential and did not want him to waste his talent, I theorized lin deliberately tricked him into their duel, Forcing him to become a taoist( a teacher). Her efforts were fruitful and WCY became a reknown mastered. In the in LCY was always very thoughtful towards WCY. In conclusion, LCY is a very particular and interesting character. I always thought Zhao min and Wuji's story in HSDS was the concluded ending for LCY and WCY. I even theorized that if reincarnation was a thing going in the book, Zhao Min and WuJi were the reincarnation of LCY and WCY.

It was carved into the tomb's wall. many thought this was a skill that reflected her hatred for him leaving her, but the Mantra was actually LCY declaration of love to WCY. After LCY died, only then did wang chong yang discover the skill, only to learn that it complemented (as well as defeated) his own skills. Therefore he searched for the 9 yin manual, and created a counter skill to the jade maiden Skill ( to prove that he did love her equally too in the end)... ooo so romantic.
This drama made me realize that you should only watch drama's when they are currently airing. Trying to binge watch this made me realize how plotless some rom-com Kdrama can be and made me realize how I am too old to enjoy these anymore.....

She's actually a very bland character though ( "mary Sue")... that obviously drew inspirations from cool traits found in real badass from other past drama's. But unlike Bai qian, these other characters has actual flaws that made them relatable and cool ( my personal opinion). Also I think bai qian is supposed to be a man in the original story.

If you want to go old school, um maybe Chinese paladin 1 and maybe 3 (cause yang Mi in that too), some of the earliest screen adapted xianxia of the 21th century. But these don't have nice endings. Stories like journey to the west and Madam white snake are also kinda follows the same inspirations of gods and immortals( but seriously there hasn't been a memorable adaption of either). A lot of good xianxia is rather rare these days. Wuxia is another genre which is more martial arts fantasy ( no gods, immortals or magic, just superhuman flight and strength and honestly has more story plot). I recommend the classic, Jin Young's Condor triology, which is probably the most romantics of the wuxia stories. There's alot of iconic characters/things in this triology that obviously had heavy influence in dramas ( especially in TMOPP. also not as heavily romanced base so you get more plot). But if you want like romance romance drama, autumn concerto's ( this is not a historical/ fantasy drama but honestly is alot better then TMOP).
This is why I didn't like it as much as others. Felt like I'd seen it several times before with the same outcome.…
