Because... drama. To be fair, the character was created for the series. There is no Dapeng in the book, BUT a young firefighter from another squadron dies in a big fire. So I guess drama writers made that firefighter into Dapeng.

Every book adaptation will have changes (good, bad, and plainly atrocious). I usually treat movies/series adapted from books as "fanfiction," otherwise my TV/computer screen would be broken with me throwing stuff at the screen 😁.

My take is that he does not want to tell her because it involves wicked mom. I mean, love her or hate her, the woman raised XQ and my understanding is respect your elders even if they don't deserve it in Chinese culture. The thing is, in the book, XQ finds out but never tells SY she did.

In the book XQ goes NC with the family except MYC. SY reciting the oath is in the book as well (I guess Chinese authors do have a thing for propaganda as well 😋).

Wow! Thanks for the recap. I watched the eps guessing what was said and recognizing when the scenes were taken from the novel. Now I can watch again when the subs come available.

Well, Dapeng was an extra character (not in the novel). A firefighter died in the novel but from another squadron. Drama, being drama... 😑

In the novel she tells him that she would steal morphine from the hospital and, you know... in the TV drama he stops her from saying it out loud but he understood.

You need to watch up until the earthquake at least. Then to ep 25 (that's the let's get together part). After that, up to you but it'll be a shame if you drop it.

For what I could see skipping over ep 38, it happens kinda like in the book. (I don't speak Mandarin but it was not that hard to figure it out)

For what I saw in preview of ep 34, SY is going to tell the truth and damn the consequences.

No, it was only XQ and ZM, because ZM goes to visit XQ at the hospital. As for what ZM knows, it seems she knows the gist but not all the details. In the book it was Lu Jie (the soldier) who tells XQ about SY's past, but he doesn't know it was the Fu woman, he only knows someone wanted to frame SY.

His past or rather his refusal for telling her about his past because it involves Mama Fu. I don't speak Mandarin but I was able to figured out the context when she points at his chest. ZM is the one spills the beans and then XQ confronts Mama Fu. In the book, it was Lu Jie (the soldier) who tells ZQ the story (or what he knows. He didn't know who wanted to frame SY).

Mind you, I don't speak Mandarin, but I am pretty sure it is about his bullet wound in the chest because I saw her pointing at his chest. I gather ZM tells XQ what happened to SY and that it was Wicked Fu involved.

Yeah, they changed this from the book (meaning wicked witch is not involved, but the fire is in a bar, was too severe because the owner skipped some safety features or something). In the book a young firefighter from another squadron dies and some civilians. With drama, who knows what will happen to Dapeng.

It seems they have a spat between 35-36. I don't speak Mandarin but I could figured out it has to do with the bullet wound he has in his chest. Makes sense. She is a surgeon, she should be able to recognize those types of wounds. For what I could see it is Zhao Miao who tells XQ about SY's past in the army. She gets all hysterical. Ep 37 starts with her going home, argues with wicked witch and smashes the picture. Good thing I read the novel, I was able to more or less follow (My languages are Eng/Spa and a bit of Italian and Portuguese, but nothing Asian 😝)
