I've just seen the first episode, I simply couldn't hit the pause button to stop myself. This drama is set to break some hearts, when life is too bleak and when you know there is no way out, hope is what kills you. I can see how it will pan out but just like watching a train wreck, I have no way of looking away from this.
I was literally crying while Washing my clothes LOL. This is my favorite xianxia couple. One thing i like about…
Today I've seen the last 5 episodes of this drama. After that I put my pastel de nata to oven, made myself a cup of v60 to drink along. And I ate my pastel de nata, drank my coffee and cried the whole time I was doing all of that. I'm getting a bit teary while I'm writing this too. So, another drama is added to my all time classics along with a new unlocked trauma. Cheers :')
This drama was such an unexpected find, I was waiting for other dramas to air whilst this came as an afterthought yet in the end it has become the classic instead of others.
I wasn’t expecting to be this much invested in the characters, I loved, laughed, cried and hurt along with them. There are lots of XianXia dramas with great effects yet many of them fall short when it comes to building a connection with the audience. When Destiny Brings the Demon achieved that connection for me.
Truthfully when that intro started I was immediately reminded of Love Between Fairy and Devil, similar music and art style were obviously in the same ball park with it, or even more like a knockoff. But despite the similarities from a production standpoint, I’m so glad that When Destiny Brings the Demon was able to carve out its own identity. Both dramas were able to make me care for its characters, so imo they’re doing something right for sure.
Arthur Chen and Wang Ying Lu were absolutely stellar in their respective roles and overall chemistry between the whole cast was so on point. I’m so glad we had such a treat in 2025.
I'm watching this, and I think I like this but mildly. I'm sure there is a plot, we have villain and a mystery, childhood trauma, secret identities, good looking cast. But... I really don't care about the characters. What is missing in this, I don't get it. There are some solid scenes and production wise everything looks so clean and well done yet I'm not feeling the chemistry between the leads.
The drama is told to be fictional so I think the plot isnt going to be exactly the same as the history. They’re…
Fingers crossed for that but king's friend was about to kill an innocent cook with no remorse, so that much of their personality is real and frankly trash.
I'm at episode two and seeing the king and that f*ker friend of his having fun with those fans is making my blood boil. I hate when cruel people like them are so self justified and can smile like that. I want to wipe the floor with their arrogant faces. He is taking away all those innocent women to the palace and essentially r*pes them to avenge his mother. That logic tops anything I've heard this year. I can deal with a morally grey male lead but not a man-child who is corrupt and self-righteous. If only this wasn't a romance drama. I really hope she can go back to her time line.
That other response isn’t accurate. She actually spends a lot of time with the SML, sharing drinks with him,…
Yes, they do spend time together as friends. He Yan treats Chu Zhao as her friend, she treats many others the same way. Like I said, 2ndML was just there throughout the story but never once he was a viable option for He Yan.
Btw, "She often smiles at him when they meet, showing clear signs of warmth and interest." this part of your comment irks me so much. Just because a woman is smiling to a man that doesn't mean they're interested in them romantically. Friendship between a man and a woman is a thing, look it up.

Vincenzo Cassano's interpretation of those scenes are not true imo. Like at all. He Yan was all in "hey bro" mode with 2ndML, not once she was ambigous with him. Being friendly as a man to another man was her scope of interaction.
In short ...Her mother blamed herself,as she couldn't protect her own daughter. She poisoned herself and said…
Emperor spared even Xu Xing Fu's daughter, He Yan's mother would at most get exiled which is dubious given her status. She exposed a traitor, that itself is enough merit to save her from execution.
He is just there throughout the story but poses no meaningful threat to their relationship, like ever... He Yan and Chu Zhao aren't on the same dimension even for a second.
As I mentioned before, these new dramas have that 1% something special missing, I attribute that to the new censorship, directors have to thin out the stories to fit it into a plausible frame and it really takes away from the characters. We want to see the romance, the war and the hardships of all the characters but in reality how many of those characters can survive the editing battle.
Stories like this one need a more complex and intricate setting to achieve a proper world build up since the idea of a female general would meet much more opposition from scholars of that time. That topic alone is a long and hard problem to solve, let alone wars between nations. Most of the meaty material is glossed over since there is actually not enough time to tell such a story. Drama itself finds a nice balance between suffering from this lack of intricacy and benefitting from the refreshing nature of being rather simple.
Overall, this was a drama done very well in its limitations and I enjoyed it for what it is.
Understandable if you're an OG EXO-L and KW was your bias but I've always thought the resemblance was very slight.…
"I've read that some netizens, who do not like CFY because of his privileged background and looks, have used the slight resemblance to attack him." Had no idea about that, it's sick.
I know I'll get hate for this comment but I have to ask. Have you ever get the ick from an actor because they remind you another celeb with bad personality?
Edit: I've deleted the second part of my comment to prevent unrelated association to take root on other people.
