I'm from SE Asia and for me, TJH's mom is hella annoying (I know some of my friends' SE MILs who are overbearing, too - FYI, my MIL is not Asian). Mind you, I'm not defending TJH (or anyone). Just stating my observation. My point is more about there may be MORE conflicting feelings on TJH's part compared to Qin Shi, because exactly what you said. Qin Shi knew she would never get TJH's mom's approval.

Tao Jun Hui + Qin Shi were together for 7 years (if I remember correctly) and they even bought an apartment together, although when they broke up Qin Shi's dad paid TJH so that Qin Shi became the sole owner of the apartment. Qin Shi was the one breaking up with him (in the past clip, it just showed that she left TJH's mom's place as the scene of their break-up). So TJH wasn't the one wanting to break up.

Tao Jun Hui with current girlfriend/fiancee. They've been together less than 2 years (because TJH and Qin Shi broke up 2 years ago). Girlfriend much younger but with rich parents (not a broken family), so TJH's mom approves. Not sure how much he loves her, although he does dote on her.

Still I think the sudden break-up after a SEVEN-year relationship which *he* was the one that got dumped was probably also one of the reasons why he may have conflicting emotions regarding Qin Shi. It's not a clean breakup where both parties have moved on and have no feelings with each other anymore. Added to this mess is the lies that Qin Shi have built at work.

My extra thoughts on Tao Jun Hui (just rambling here instead of in other people's thread LOL!).

Additional note: Two decades ago my friend broke up with her long-term boyfriend. She felt she had made it clear why they broke up, but the guy called me crying after they had just broken up (I knew him, too, otherwise he wouldn't have called me). He said he just couldn't understand why she broke up with him, so I called her (pretending not to know about the break-up). She explained everything and told me about this and then I called him to explain why she broke up with him. He felt better after he figured out what went wrong.

Another friend of mine was dumped by her boyfriend ages ago and she came to my house crying. She didn't understand why he broke up with her, so for some time she became obsessed with dieting. Unfortunately in her case I couldn't help ask him why. I feel that the way people break up can also affect their psyche so much (just like in TJH's case).

I feel he's still so nostalgic about his past relationship with Qin Shi, esp. since now they work together in the same office building. Meeting her again seems to have opened a lot of unresolved feelings (esp. because of the lies of how she's been married and she has a child). Maybe if she is still single, things would have been different? Dunno. He said in one episode that he loved the current girlfriend, but it seems (to me) he still has some lingering affection for Qin Shi.

Lynn, you weren't the only one confused. I also thought she was being demoted, most likely because she was given the reference room as her office. Didn't feel like a probation period for a promotion at all. Her old office was much nicer.

Me, too, I was crying at that scene when Qin Shi read her mom's letter. Reminded me of the day my mom had to "give me away" by moving halfway across the globe (not my wedding day, but the day I moved away from home after finally getting my residence permit).

I'm also a bit confused about Ren Meimei. In some episodes I feel like they tried to show the connection between the two: when they were gaming together as Qin Shi was trying on the wedding gown and how she actually enjoys being the boss at work instead of being a stay-at-home wife. But other than those moments (and bits and pieces on how the husband prepares surprises at home for her and they do have fun together), it's hard to see how they complement each other as a couple. In contrast, however little Yang Hua's income is, he and Qin Shi are on par intellectually and they can learn a lot from each other and support each other.

Ah, good point about the contrast between the two couples. I guess it's hard not to show that couple because of how close the wife is to FL (and how they always involve her when they have marital issues LOL!).

I hear you. When I first tried corporate work, I felt trapped. It felt so toxic to me. I couldn't stand working there for too long, so I quit not long after I first started (I had a freelance job, too, so I had that job as a backup).

I can relate to some bits and pieces of Yang Hua's personality at work. I didn't survive long in corporate work of my home country (SE Asia). In my current country, the work environment/culture is different (I don't work corporate work, either), so I don't feel the same as when I tried corporate work in my home country. It feels refreshing to see a character like Yang Hua in a drama (making me feel like I'm not alone).

Very interesting background story between FL's father and his 2nd ex-wife and current wife. Explains a lot of the dynamics shown in the past (esp. during FL's father's 70th birthday). This drama has a lot of things: family dynamics, career dynamics, relationship dynamics. I really love how FL and ML interact. He always instinctively knows what the FL needs/if FL wants to ask him something.

Wu Fei feels sorry for her boyfriend because of the lies (that Qin has been married for 2 years and has a 2,5 year-old son). Because Qin and the ex-boyfriend broke up two years ago = she thought it meant that Qin had "possibly" cheated on the boyfriend (whose child is it? so she got pregnant before they broke up?) and the lie also meant that she got married right after she broke up with Tao Jun Hui. Tao Jun Hui is also obviously still confused (and fuming) about how on earth a woman who was against marriage all of a sudden has been married for 2 years (and has a 2,5 year-old child). So this is all happening because of the lies. And FL couldn't defend herself and correct the misunderstanding because it would mean trouble for herself and Yang Hua.

My friend (who's also watching this drama) said she didn't like the fact that Wu Fei was hating FL because of these reasons HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHH...
