What makes the most recent episode about Juwon even sadder is that he wasn't able to spend that quality time with his family before Jihee passed away- Hell, he was abroad when the crash even happened.

You really can't blame him though. He was quite literally valued and used for his abilities probably before he was fully an adult. And to just have that value taken away almost instantly. You look at how Mihyun and Dooshik were able to live together and raise Bongseok before their eventual parting- I'm sure Juwon would've wanted to do the same thing, but he quite literally could not feel like he was living a fulfilling life just sitting around and doing a normal job. And that's because of the importance he placed on his abilities on helping people out. I'm sure after that military operation, his sense of duty got even stronger.

Though, from what we see in the present time, I'm glad he was able to settle down for Heesu.

The story takes place during the civil war in America - the protagonist of the story is on the Confederate side of the war (😒) So just beware that they try and make slavery seem normal and the right thing to do. The ML gets introduced around the time the war starts and it’s about her growth and change because of the war.

Honestly I found the leads to be a little difficult to like , although I wouldn’t want to deter you from watching the movie. It’s a classic and I do like knowing the references I can catch after watching GWTW.

They allude to it multiple time- Court officials talking about women who jump to escape the hands of the barbarians, Eunae saying that a barbarian touched the inner part of her garments, and scenes of barbarians roughly capturing women. They don't explicitly show any sexual assault but it's talked about.

For depressing - Honestly I'd say that the fourth episode is the most depressing for me. Just because they really do a great job at showing how truly defenseless they are. The rest of the episodes have angst when it comes to the romance between the leads - Although there are still scenes showing the struggle to escape the hands of the barbarians- and violence (aka fighting against the barbarians).

Oh and the story Ryangeun told must be something well known - Korean viewers are probably more familiar with the story than international viewers.

The old man ? If I'm thinking the same as you are- It's the 'boss' character from the merchant group JH was apart of. If you go back to the second episode, that's the man who was trying to get JH to stay with him. I don't remember why exactly JH was looking for him but it must've had smth to do with the merchant house JH was establishing.

As explained in the recent episodes, interpreters for the royal family are able to buy and sell goods which would otherwise be illegal for anyone else to do. So, JH and his friends decided to make money and start selling illegal goods to important people (like the royal family)- so they have some sort of immunity if they ever get in trouble. Because they can't die because the royal family needs them.

Because JH tricked the khan people and was a successful spy- Now the emperor and that servant warrior guy wants to kill JH. And they'll do anything in order to achieve that goal (Even if it means making up crimes and whatnot). Personally all the accusations and everything were confusing to me too - but it seems like they manufactured a crime in order to capture JH.

Although some people are speculating that JH planned all of this, so his imprisonment was expected. But we won't know for sure until the last two episodes of part 1.

I have to say, the beginning of episode 8 .. Namkoong Min's charm and presence is insane. He wasn't even looking directly at the camera but I still felt like he was speaking directly to me.

Actors are amazing because if I was Ahn Eunjin- I would've been on the floor LMFAO

I hate that so much ... but only because I can actually see that happening 😭 Although it's hard to imagine who that would be, considering all the men around Gilchae's age are either dead or someone she doesn't know at all. I'm also unsure if Eunae would want Gilchae to move on from Janghyun in such a drastic way.

Or, Gilchae will adopt some of Janghyun's way of thinking and say that she'll be unmarried to anyone too. Especially with the way she was doing her own business and following what Janghyun has told her in the past about her being unlike the other ladies (in the sense that she's resourceful). /as seen in the previews for the next two eps/

But truly idk ... At this point anything could happen.

That last scene with Gilchae on the rock was heartbreaking .....

Also side note .. now I know why they call out the deceased king's name with his clothes on top of the palace. I've seen it many times and it was never explained.

It's a reflection of how messed up the royalty/kingdom is. They'll have people fight for their lives in order to protect the country- but forget about them once the war is over. It's even greed for promotions/to look good.

We all know it was Gilchae who was able to save the royal baby from dying- but those royal servants (idk what they are specifically) tried sending the girls to their death and still took the credit for transporting the baby safely.

The same happened with Janghyun, and all those people taking the credit for something they never did. Like how Yeonjun got promoted, even though he was sitting around most the time- and he still never tried to make sure Janghyun got recognized for what he did. Even if he thought Janghyun was killed during that short amount of time before they reunited.

You're right , I guess he can only be considered cowardly in his sense of how he's dealing with his feelings and the love of both Eunae and Gilchae. (Mainly, him not being able to firmly put his foot down in rejecting Gilchae.)

Someone needs to tell Gilchae all the things Janghyun has done for her.. like she absolutely knows nothing about him at this point. But since we know these things, it's causing people to feel resentment towards Gilchae. But I'm sure once she understands all the things Janghyun has done, all the sacrifice and hardships- she'll know his feelings are sincere.

We really can't blame Gilchae for the way she's behaving. Yes she trusts him and thinks he's charming, but that's pretty much it. Unlike Eunae or even Yeonjun, she hasn't seen Janghyun for who he really is. Which is his fault as well, he likes to tease her and put up a strong facade when they're together. I hope they can communicate more seriously and sincerely in the future.

Also ... Yeonjun is getting more detestable by the minute. It really gives me the ick (for lack of a better word) seeing him stand proud and tall after all that he's done and been through. He acts like he deserves the recognition and title he's received when he was cowardly throughout the whole war- seriously he would've died during that second battle if it wasn't for Janghyun. And playing with Gilchae's feelings while being with Eunae ....... I agree with Janghyun when he said that he would've snapped his neck if it wasn't for Eunae.

from the automated captions he said "왜 왔는지... 말은 하고 가야지" , so "I need to tell you why I came"

My korean isn't that great, but I think he was teasing her again for caring about Yeonjun. So like "Why are you suddenly acting like this? why are you concerned about me when you have Yeonjun" . And Gilchae is just like "I'm crazy for even waiting for you". The last line could either be Janghyun asking why she showed up or him telling her why he showed up.

barely 10 min into the 7th episode but ryangeum is taking the yearning and sadness of sending your husband off to war to the next level

It's weird that this show can't be found online anymore. I wanted to rewatch but it seemed like it was taken off of dramanice. Maybe it's getting licensed and will be on a streaming service soon.

I'm sensitive to gore and fighting scenes like that, but honestly it's hard not to say that Joowon is such a cool character. But he also has a sweet and cute side and I'm really glad we saw that with him meeting Jihee.
