If you don't mind, will you spoil just this for me. Will he wake up from the coma? And return to his original…
Sorry for chiming in on a convo from two months ago 😅 but I think the not feeling anything was mostly due to depression . Of course I still think him unaliving himself to be with the crew back in 1988 was the 'happy ending'. Although it is sad that he could not find any happiness or connection in his 'future' life.
I interpreted it as TaeJoo having the chance to capture the killer in 1988. Since we know he lived up until the future, by him calling the police station- It's like the show is telling us that TaeJoo finally being able to close that case earlier than expected.
I also think you should check out the other works from the screenwriter ! Rebel is in my top 5 sageuks and even…
Rebel is similar in the sense where it feels like an epic sageuk. As in it feels like a fairytale or something from a classic novel (which My Dearest is based from the novel Gone with the Wind)
Rebel is reminiscent of the tale of Robin Hood, where a charismatic man from a humble background fights for the rights of the poor/fighting against the government and rich people. It has sort of a fantasy element as well where the 'chosen one' has great strength. Personally I love this Robin Hood/fairy tale type feeling in a historical drama.
The romance is also slow burn like in My Dearest. The FL isn't a doormat either. I also really like how it isn't a 'first love' thing either. The ML even has a fling with someone else for a little bit.
All in all, you follow the ML from his childhood and the big themes are of family, loyalty, and holding onto your morals.
The Kings Daughter has less similarities to My Dearest- but overall it's an entertaining and classic sageuk. It's also pretty long (108 episodes), so this one is just nice to watch on a weekly basis when you have nothing else to watch.
Citizens of Mydramalist, I come here with an urgent cry for help! Please don't shy away from answering my request...GUYS…
I also think you should check out the other works from the screenwriter ! Rebel is in my top 5 sageuks and even The King's Daughter: Soo Baek Hyang is a great sageuk.
I made a review comparing the main cast of characters to the main character of Gone with the Wind- but so far all that's similar is the general character archetypes. Of course, since this is a kdrama and it's own show, the characters have deviated from the characters in Gwtw but-
Gilchae is like Scarlett, a girl who matures because of the war but someone who is also obsessed with Ashley aka YeonJun. What's good is that Gilchae is not as obsessed with Yeonjun as Scarlett was with Ashley. Scarlett in the movie never really moves on from him.
Janghyun is like Rhett in the way where he is the mysterious anti-war man who shows up and ends up liking Scarlett/Gilchae. But what's better in this kdrama is that Janghyun is way more respectful and charming than Rhett was.
Honestly, I'm glad that this kdrama does not follow Gwtw exactly - because if so Gilchae would've been married already. And even when she does marry the ML , she would be still obsessed with the SML. Gone with the Wind wasn't my favorite movie so I'm sure someone could explain it to you better, but in general I'm liking My Dearest's rendition of the story way more than the original.
What scenes or subjects did you want to discuss that you don't see here? Please feel free to bring it up! That's…
I feel like us seeing that monk freeze to death goes hand in hand with our reaction to the soldier sending our girls to death. Janghyun told the Crown Prince that the royalty uses the monks when they need them and discard them and treats the badly afterwards. The crown prince reacted badly by hitting Janghyun but later in the show- by the monk freezing- it proves his point.
Gilchae single handedly saved that baby from dying- but like the monk- the royalty think they are the most important and think they can sacrifice their citizens in order for their survival. I honestly doubt that Gilchae will even get any credit for safely transporting the baby- It's a horrible thought but what would've happened if she didn't step up when she did? The crown prince's son would've died as well.
All of this really adds to the whole anti-war, anti-being blindly loyal to your leader sentiment that this show has.
If you don't mind a spoiler, under this comment I will tell you in more detail- but the ending isn't really sad.…
More about the ending-
In the very first episode, Geuru's father passes away. This sets the tone for the whole show. Because Geuru will be now learning how to deal with the loss of his father- the very person who has supported him since forever.
The last episode is Geuru finally accepting his father's death and in turn, moving on. It's a sad ending because Geuru is really emotional at the funeral and a lot of people can empathize with how he's feeling. Although it's not a 'sad ending' because after grieving his father, Geuru is set to continue to manage the business. And all there is left is the hopeful future.
I see everyone saying it's sad and that they cried but is the ending sad? I want to watch this with my family…
If you don't mind a spoiler, under this comment I will tell you in more detail- but the ending isn't really sad. Honestly, this show is about grief and learning how appreciate those who have passed but at the same time moving on.
The episodes consist of different stories. This is because for each episode, Geuru's father's company is cleaning up another scene where someone has passed. These stories are pretty sad but that's mainly because you are learning about someone after the fact that you know they have died.
Gilchae is so smart for firstly, going another route so they don't get chased and secondly - securing their place on the boat. I don't know how she was able to think so clearly during the moment - but she was able to come to the conclusion that the baby was important.
I'm also glad that she knows that Janghyun actually showed up like he promised. Of course we didn't get the reunion this week but from the way she ran back to the fight, I just know she didn't want to lose him again.
Can someone explain to me why some group invaded in the first place like I'm 5 please
Opportunity. The Qing are doing the heavy work by going after the king, so all the other groups are invading in order to- like Janghyun said for “women and riches”.
Like imagine there’s a robbery going on in a store and all the employees and bodyguards are preoccupied with the initial robbers- what’s stopping you from stealing something yourself. The opportunity is there so you might as well take it.
I felt the entire production team was marketing the plastic surgery industry. It's a good drama with really good…
I felt like the shows take on plastic surgery was humorous and mocking their society’s view on it. Especially that time Momi and her friend from the bar where in the car talking about momi’s child. Like “if they’re ugly they can get plastic surgery”. It’s a ridiculous thing to say and I think the writers wanted the audience to know how ridiculous that really is. Which is exactly why Momi then said that she’ll tell her child they are pretty no matter what because she never got that growing up. AKA breaking the pattern that usually leads someone to think they need surgery to be pretty.
although if anyone is sensitive towards SA , this might not be the show for you
yeah , there’s a sex scene in the first or second ep . it’s in the office during night so you’ll kinda see it coming . There’s also two r/pe scene , one is attempted but it happens in the ep about her coworker.
The second ep, the coworker also masterbates in his room.
With nudity, there’s the scene where mask girl takes off her clothes but really all you see is her butt. The same goes for the last episode where you’ll just see her butt.
