I'm finally getting the time to catch up with this. Four episodes in and pretty good so far. I don't get why the FL is getting so much hate, she seems fine to me. 😕There was quite a bit of power level whiplash after BFX, but WR is starting to grow on me a bit more. The fight scenes are...alright, but I wasn't expecting top tier stuff after watching the trailers anyway. Also, why you gotta wreck your hotel room like that, WXS?? Go do your super secret sword techniques outside! 🤣

I don't think ML was out of character there. He's always been pretty insecure, and that was just the drinking and getting suspended bringing it out in full force. Her response to it was definitely A+ though. And at least he was sensible enough to apologize immediately the next day.

Wow, how is it that a law focused drama has a far better romance story than like 90% of romance dramas? XJ and SX's relationship is just so sweet.

Yeah, it's a shame. Doesn't help that all but maybe a handful of the liuliang actors nowadays have no real martial arts training. Or even fake training to make it look good on screen.

lol, here you go again listing off my favorite characters. I agree, though, I can't think of any female wuxia character on par with BFX's skills and intelligence. She's like a three-way baby of Xiaolongnv (style), Huang Rong (brains), and Linghu Chong 🤣 (skills + personality).
But back to the page we're on, Wen Rou/WXS feels a bit like Huang Rong first meeting Guo Jing (except here GJ isn't slow and unskilled, lol)

Hahaha, guilty. BFX has set the bar way too high. I was so excited after Wen Rou's grand entrance in the inn. And then she gets taken hostage like 5 minutes later, sigh.

Indeed, if they can mix together good elements from old wuxia, then I'm all for it. I've learned my lesson though from WRTW and won't get my hopes up too high about the wuxia fight scenes here.

Haha, and Lei Chun in episode 1 reminds me of Ren Yingying in her Holy Maiden getup.

Finished the first episode, and I'm getting flashbacks from the ending of Chinese Paladin. Ugh, I'm not a fan of sad endings at all, but will keep watching for now. Lei Chun is also giving me Ren Yingying vibes, lol
Also, what kind of silly name is Wen Rou??? It's literally the Chinese word for "gentle", but it doesn't sound classy or elegant because her surname is part of the word. Ugh, it's like Ning Meng from Master of My Own all over again 🤣

I'm happy to see you linked the 2001 adaptation of XAJH. Most people seem to think it's meh, but it's by far my favorite version.
