i had this drama on my hardrive like for exactly one year, and did not find time to watch , but thank god, the taxes are made, and now until the end of the year, i am semi-free, and the currently normal length dramas arent that all riveting, so i was looking through my "not watch yet" folder, and found this gem!

wow, i know the FL from full dramas, she is often side characters or second characters and is really great! a little bit sad, that she probably has missed her timeslot to be FL anywhere, but she is really a good actress and loved their interaction here.

and overall, the power dynamics are not bad, i like that the prince was younger, and still did his best and even injured himself to protect her!
actually i thought, this would end with like, well realistically he would marry the prime ministers daughter and keep her as a concubine or so. (once he is like promote to master of the eastern palace).

overall, VERY enjoyable.
and wholly 8 !
better than most rather mediocre dramas with 45 min eps, who get huge budget and still managed to not succeed.

yeah, just, the fillers in the normal 40 eps long dramas are annoying. as i said, i understand the economic reasons, and money speaks for itsself, so if i were in the industry, i would not do differently.
but hell, why cant they just have more stories, and then shorter length? 2x20 eps or 1x40 eps? the stars still get paid, and the advertisers still could spend money, if a show is doing well.

yeah, the minis are really... the costumes are not that much different to the super expensive dramas, and ok, they dont have that much outdoor nature filming coz that is probably more expensive and they dont have the budget, but all the indoor sets are still as pretty compared to the huge big expensive sets.

and the storylines are just hhahahah crazy levels of crazy.
and yep, much more steaming kissing scenes and stuff like "sadomaso relationsship" i still remember the summary of that mini drama! fifty shades of grey , chinese version, LOL

i finally figured out, why i like those of them, that are good:
there are no freaking fillers coz the eps are so short.
i hardly have to fast forward, like in those star studded idol Premium S class 40 eps dramas . some of them are good but hell, why do they have to be so long?? (ok, I know why they have to be so long, its because of advertising reasons, they have to be longer, so that the marketing machine can go running, and they have the income from the brands...) but still..
I FF so many of the star ridden dramas, coz the storyline is just filled with fillers and so boring (with few exceptions. awww Dashing youth was gorgeous, despite only 40

as someone, who is middle-aged, and grew up with Hong Kong dramas, that maximal had 20 eps of 45 minutes`?
initially, when i started Chinese dramas 6 years ago, those epic length episode numbers were crazy to me.

that is actually one of the good things that censorship and communistic party did right, lol, they curb the worst excesses to allow only 40 eps (still of course , c-dramaland wouldn't be stopped, they will just split up the overlength dramas... thank god, i wasn't crazy about lost you forever, or that 1 year waiting time would have made me like "lost your mind forever" hahahahah

of course, the color scheme of the costumes are usually like that, black/dark color versus white/light colors. evil versus goodness and righteousness and so on. and the swords, glowing like lightsabers , hahaha!
they were best friends, had known each other since childhood, wooehh them, and now they had to turn against each other and had to be pitted against each other coz... invasion reasons. saving the country , the nation, the common poor people who don't have martial arts and cannot defend themselves against the demon sect. yaddayaddaa
well thank Buddha, BDJ didn't fight his friend to "save" that sorry dud of an emperor. ähh sorry , drug-using rapist of a prince*.
he just fought his best buddy, to save his best buddy and well, the country. and the common people. Lets not forget the common poor people suffering of the invasion of the demon sect, who conveniently were successful in turning YDZ into a demon leader. (good thing, that bitch of a younger sister rotted and die in prison. But , also , must bow before her, so simple tricks, and yet, she was able to induce a whole war, and is indirectly the responsible person for the death of ten thousands. For me? that younger sister? best most evol villain bitch of this drama.
all the rest, the old emperor, the younger princes, and all the martial artists on the light and dark side? couldn't hold a candle on this kind of bitch, ahahahhhhaaa -seriously they should have fleshed out her character more)

anyway, so YDZ turns from happy child of a noble family, with a best friend and a betrothed, to a persecuted outcasted orphaned criminal child / teenager with a dead family/clan (well at least unlike Nirvana in Fire, there were hopefully not 70,000 innocent people of his clan, who died, right?) . and a fiance, that was stolen from him as well.

(rapist of a prince = *I am really curious, my computer went down for like several days last week, so I neither could go here, nor watching the eps in real-time) during those eps, were there even heated discussions here about the implications? that the prince/later emperor drugged his wife and then raped her - someone told me, that didn't happen in the novel, they just made that up for the drama, the drugging and raping? so in the novel, they just slept like dutiful husband and wife together and ´had boring sex, so that the evol prince/Half brother of wuxin from TBOY could be conceived? i would have thought, this would create at least an uproar, coz kids nowadays are huge on consent and all that stuff? or doesn't this count, coz its a fantasy setting, and well, a husband and emperor is well within his rights to demand and exercise his husbandly rights for sex (and need for heirs), no matter if that women wants it or not? is it rape if you are legally married? uff I have strange thoughts and questions on that episode / scene, but I guess, what my biggest problem in the entire drama is- the rape and using drugs - doesn't seem to be a problem at all, so move on, ender , its seems to be not rape , if its the emperor/prince/ and so on doing the deed and not worth mentioning)

so Yi Wen Jun and ye dingzi and BDJ , where all childhood friends.

and YWJ and YDZ were betrothed since childhood and liked each other.
and then, coz the emperor for fear of general ye, the father of YDZ, he killed their entire family, making YDZ an outcast, refugee and wanted criminal.

and for strategic reasons and because no one lets their daughter marry a criminal and refugee, YWJ was betrothed to the prince Xiao Ruo Jin (the father of TBOY Xiao Se/Chuhe) . and coz for whatever reason, he could not just rape her by force as powerful normal evil men usually do (does YWJ even knows martial art?) he had to ask the imperial doctors for drugs.
and then he raped her, thus having her pregnant with that evol prince from TBOY.

and then, some time later, YDZ came and she left with her childhood betrothed willingly.
they left together, hopefully had some great sex without drugs, and had wuxin.
and then another plot, to deceive YDZ, they drugged YWJ AGAIN, this time with sort of not sleeping drug, but anxious inducing drugs, where she suddenly fears for the life of her firstborn son, and returns to the palace, to appease the rapist /ex-prince/now king Xiao Ruo Jin .
the one , who his brother Prince Langya said, will be a good emperor (also Sikong Changeng said that in TBOY as well, episode 25).

aha? so well, not that my opinion is worth much, and surely a rapist who can calls himself husband, can be a "great" emperor or president or leader of a country..

me thinks, I doubt that shit, but whatever.

i really liked the character of lord lingchen in TBOY.
and i liked the actor playing him , very much.
i never though, how much i could love Lord Langya in DY.
this actor might well never be an super-star or idol, but he is definitely great.

i would say, he is ok intelligent.
it always depends on context, and since this drama, there is like not that kind of scheming like in TBOY?
his intelligence is not on that level , lets say as prince langya.

it feels like the biggest betrayal, and the biggest surprise to myself, BUT...dear lord, i like DY more than TBOY.

at this stage (I am at ep 34) thanks to lots of my questions from TBOY were answered by DY?
(and no, I am one of those, who don't know the novel, the anime, the whatever adaption. I only know the live action dramas, nothing else)

they actually give fair screen time to nearly all of the characters.

so the ML is actually appearing not that much, as i thought, he would be.
its really a drama where nearly everyone and every character is given room to shine.

back to your question: the supposedly ML?
in the beginning he seems like a spoiled rich kid, (well he IS), but he is also kind, super romantic at heart, and yeah, later, he will be very strong at martial art, and at the end of the show, i believe he will reach martial god status. .

he is not that kind of cynical smart as , lets say Xiao Se / chuhe from Blood of youth.
