I'm excited for you. Happy watchinggg~
I loved all of Mudan and Chang Yang's interactions today, but the highlight of this episode really was the Sheng village, because it represented the reasons why Chang Yang and Mr. Third were working so hard and who all of it was for. The desperation the Sheng villagers must have felt for them to turn to banditry as a means to survive, the sick and starving people with no food or medicine, the helplessness and anger of the county magistrate and his fraying clothes and worn out shoes, Mudan and co's determination to help the Sheng county, and Mudan and Chang Yang sharing their hopes and dreams for a better nation for all people - it was all so well done.
This drama might be fictional, but it always makes me emotional when we get stories about those who came before us fighting and dying for the dream that one day those who come after them will have the opportunity and privilege to live good lives, regardless of their humble backgrounds.
I'm just saying that it sucks when your options are limited to fast episodes release + bad subs or slow episodes release + good subs.
Hopefully you continue with this drama. If not, that's okay too. :)
Season 1 was definitely better - I think I even considered it my comfort drama at one point. I don't know if season 2 will end on a high note, but I hope it do for the sake of the entire story.
"Your mother was nice to me and gave me money but this made me angry because I was not a charity case so I poisoned her so she could die and accompany my family in the afterlife."
What a dumb excuse. That makes no sense at all. 🫠🫠🫠
Not to mention, many years have passed, and the old man isn't even remorseful. When Mudan confronts him on why her mother had to be the one to die, he said, "because she was rich."
And then Chang Yang intervenes and tells her to just let it go. Let it go? This is rich coming from the same man who still holds a grudge against his own father for keeping a mistress; the same man who is cold and dismissive to his own half-brother (who is a kid!!) because of the resentment he have towards his father and stepmother. And now he wants Mudan to just forgive the murderer who took her innocent mother's life and let the grudge go??? Gtfo.
That plot twist alone is already a mess because it came out of nowhere, but the logic behind it is lacking as well. The writing in this second half of the story have completely plummeted.
