Also yes, Prince Wuxia is the 4th prince, the one she was originally supposed to marry.

As for your question - it looks like the writers are trying to set the ML's sister up with Prince Wuxia.
Shenyi was not stupid or malicious. She was a victim of her times. In those days, women were taught from the moment they were born to the moment they die that they were worthless. That their only purpose in life was to serve their fathers, then their husbands, then their sons. That they were nothing without a man. And that was the case for Shenyi, especially because she was of a lowly social class and the rules were even harsher on her. She had no education, no power, no confidence. Her family abused her and then they sold her, and her husband continued the cycle of torture and manipulation. She was beaten down so badly that she really believed her husband was the best she could do in life.
Taking a leap of faith and joining Mudan was already a really big step for her, but it put her into unfamiliar territory. The moment other women with skills she did not possessed joined the picture, her insecurities grew because once again she was taught that love was conditional and it would end the moment she was no longer of use. She went back to her toxic husband because sometimes that was what victims did. She was used to the abuse, that was something she could endure, but she couldn't bear the thought of being discarded by someone as precious as Mudan if she lost favor. She might have went back to her husband, but she did not mean to betray Mudan. To hold this resentment over her is disheartening.
And although Shenyi was a victim of her times, struggles like hers did not die in the past. Domestic violence is still prevalent today. It might be hard to watch the violence being depicted in dramas and we might even ask, "she's so stupid, why won't she just leave?" but I hope we remember that we all probably know a woman like Shenyi in real life. It could be our mothers, our grandmothers, our sisters, our cousins, our friends - ourselves. The reasons why women stay vary: lack of self-love, no moral support, financial dependency on the abusers, the children, the fear of judgment from society, the fear of the unknown, the fear of suffering more violence if their attempts to leave fail, etc. Some are able to leave the abuse right away, some take months and years, and some never make it out. Regardless of how long it takes for a woman to leave a toxic situation, she is still deserving of compassion - especially from other women who are supposed to understand her plight.
I really liked the bond between the Meng siblings too, it's a shame Huajin had to die so early. I wonder what their father will do next. I hope he leaves ZhenZhen out of it, she's been through enough.
Although she was working for the other side, I thoroughly enjoyed all of her scenes. I hope this isn't the last we see of her.
Seeing the other two concubines leave the Shen mansion made this entire episode that much more heart-wrenching. I can't bring myself to hate them for their brief time on this show, because like what one of the concubines said, they were just trying to survive.
I really hope that they get the lives they deserve. May the next chapters of their journeys be kinder to them.
I just finished Meet Yourself not too long ago and I've been missing that calm slice of life vibes. this drama seems like it'll hit all the right notes. thank you.
