21 episodes in; if this was the director first experimenting an artistic fight scenes or different methods to film it, please let it be his last. In the beginning with the slow motion scenes from Pangong Pu She, I just assumed it was a choice. And then forward to Lu Qian Tang fights under the Sect's mountain and I thought, Ok, I guess the fights are more normal now. However, after episode 21, it reverted back to how it was. Slow motion.
I thought the foreshadow leading to episode 21 where the fights are, will be interesting, but the whole episode of 30 or so minutes, are full of slow mo. I am watching the Matrix bullet time in action essentially. I do not mind if this is a wuxia, xuanhuan or just pure political story, because at least the political sides are interesting. They don't even need to include fight scenes. But if they were to, IMO, they made it the least enjoyable as possible. Maybe they were trying to be poetic. Throughout 21, I did not feel any excitement for any fights at all.
I thought it's a big contradicting that Feng Nian's character is written as 'I will not let people be sacrificed' but I guess it was OK for soldiers to died while he stands there. Maybe because they are soldiers, that is their duty to protect the Lord? I don't know. I mean I do still enjoyed the show very much, but everytime there's a fight scene coming up, I am praying real hard it is not slow mo. Either have it normal or don't at all. The story itself is interesting without the fights anyhow.
Fighting the urge real bad not to watch anything and have it saved up for Christmas, and then that'll be my Christmas gift, 4 episodes. Q_Q, it's definitely a torture...
Might be desperate enough to read the novel using machine translate D:. Desperate time call for desperate measure!!…
Yeah its understandable as a book has more luxury to be descriptive. While in drama they have to show it via their facial expressions, certain events, circumstances and what not, and sometimes if you blinked you might missed it. The personality is alot more matured in the drama, probably easier to setup all other things, I like it this way better haha.
Ok this one episode a night is nothing more than torture. I am gonna try to watch every other night so that I…

Although the first 10 chapters were VERY different from drama adaptation. I am glad the drama is written the way it did, though. It is much better to digest.
Xu Xiao was right, Feng Nian is much alike Xu Xiao. I mean they are father and son afterall. But both had the arrogant and carefree attitude. One walked into the Palace and hit a third ranking officer under the steps, one walked into enemy territory closed door without bodyguards. Truly fearless.
Of course one has power and the other has master protecting, but those two things won't be fast enough to help you when you're 2 feet away from a sword. The audacity! truly daring!
Yeah the fighting has really gotten good. The director has said that he wants viewers to appreciate the beauty…
:o is that why. Cause when I saw the scene in ep 15/16, I was like hey, they filmed it pretty well, why didn't they do this in the beginning? So I just chalked it up as artistic choice lol
Mysterio was wrong, Peter Parker isn't Spiderman, Xu Xiao is. Holycrap the amount of web this guy spun- it's crazy. He got intel on everyone and dark agents located everywhere. Which land has his web not been touched?? Xu Xiao is truly scary.
On another note, ep15/16, now that was a proper wuxia fight. Question for those that read the book, Feng Nian brother and sisters are his step-brother/sisters right? Because his aunt mentioned in ep15 that Feng Nian's mother ignored her Sect and went with Xu Xiao in Liaodong and that's how Feng Nian was conceived. I know he has 2 elder sisters, so IF they were of the same Mother, wouldn't the aunt say "and that's how you and your elder sisters..." be making more sense? Instead of just singling out Feng Nian, sounding like they did not have the same Mother? Or is it because only Feng Nian is there and so she only stated as such, as it was already a given fact that his elder sisters were from the same Mother?
Also if the mother dies shortly after Feng Nian, then who birthed Xu Long Xiang? We did see a flashback of Feng Nian when he was very young, crying during his mother's funeral, so maybe Xu Long Xiang was already born then?
Ep13; why they gotta hit us with the feels at the start of the episode! Xu Xiao have so many loyal subordinates under him. I guess some he blackmailed too, haha. Heavy is the head who wears the crown. To keep Beilang peaceful, so much burden for him and Xu Feng Nian. If the Xu family have these many experts following them, then I wonder how much stronger is the Royal family.
Off topic but Zhang Tian Ai is really pretty~. Although I don't mind if there's romance or not, but I did hope she and Jiang Ni switch leading spots, I think it'll be fun having a martial buddy on his journey. Reminding me of Haitang Duo Duo and Fan Xian, their chemistry and interaction was hilarious.
Hey, so who is the bad guy here, is it JN or his adoptive brother? Also is Joy of Life good and how is the romance…
I don't think JN or his adoptive brothers that is being shown so far, are bad guys. You will find out more in later episodes. But so far, I do not believe they are.
As for JOL, definitely definitely watch it. It is my top favorite drama besides Nirvanas In Fire. The romance is there, but it is not the main point, and you would probably glad that it is! because this drama is so much more. It wasn't as prominent in the novel, either. It's focus more on politics but I can guarantee you that it is not boring.
Ep10; Holycrap the nostalgia from 90s-2000s wuxia drama. Where you have the hero trains by himself in the background with waterfalls, books, and OST. hahahah. I love it. The way the scenes are shot is very old style too haha.
Thats the problem. This kinda drama gets destroyed by such long "hiatus". When u sign contract you should add…
I partially agree. Signing a deal for multiple seasons expanding multiple years is a gamble for the production team, because the actors and actress must be on their best behavior lol. Because look at what happened to Kris Wu. Sometimes when you found the right actors/actresses, their schedule in the future might be conflicting with your filming and so you would have to navigate around it, it is a pain for them and us audiences. Although I think Covid is what made it extremely difficult to film anything, if at all. Projects getting pushed back several months if not years.
However, if you liked season 1, and if the same writer/actors stays for the remainder of the seasons, you guys are definitely in for a treat! Because the remainder of the stories, oh man it get super exciting and good. Expect a lot of scheming's, comedic banters, and martial arts!
After watching 4 episodes I decided to drop this one. An unappealing love interest can make a potentially good/great…
Oh noesss D:. I never saw Terrisa Li's acting before but I noticed your comments a while back regarding her pouting everytime (maybe that's how her character is?), so now I am paying attention to that hahah. However, it doesn't bother me as much. Im rather more interested in the background of the Xu's family. How can the Xu family have so many experts willingly helping them. How the relationship is being developed, albeit slowly, between Feng Nian and his servants, his brothers, his father, bodyguards etc. I like how each actions and words from each character subtly hints the feelings they had for one another whether that's romantically, friendship or even loyalty too.
Maybe take a break for now, and then binge it when it's done? :D.
Seen up to episode 6 and I think it's great so far. Reminds me alot of older days wuxia fight sequences. Its not flashy like modern days, but still enjoyable. Also reminds me of Jing Yong and Gu Long novels where we have old monsters with epic martial arts :D. The pace might be slow for some, but we're not competing for a marathon so just let the story unfold. We're still in the younger stage of the story and nothing is set yet, there's so many questions and mystery shrouded around Beiqang and the Xu's family. The saying a tiger would not born a dog son; Xu Feng Nian is intelligent, but he still pale compare to his Father.
Since this is a 38 series with possible seasons, I think it's fair to watch at least 15-20% of the show before deciding to continue! (5-7 episodes). If you're not feeling it after +-5 episodes, that's OK too , it's fair! :D
Noticed that too! IMO I think it's the storyboard/screenplay here needs bit of TLC. Like the brothel scene and…
I am definitely enjoying the show as well! I mean I can spaz all day about it, but the waiting is killing me. Happens with every new show where we wait for the next episodes. Sigh ;-;
I think there is a reason why the outro is black and white... Maybe they want to emulate how historical dramas…
Even if they have minimal fight scenes, I think I would still like it plenty! Because the story is intriguing me so far. The only bad thing I would say is....the episode is too short!!! It should be at least 50 mins long :D. The intro and ending songs already take like 10 mins >.>.
