I watched both drama twice, can't pick the favorite. NIF is for the serious, sentimental and life of Lin Shu. While JOL is the comedic, playful politics life of Fan Xian.

Lin Shu is that kid in college who wants to study, Fan Xian is that kid who doesn't study but copies Lin Shu work in finals.

I have to put The Longest Day In Chang'an as my third pick. Zhang Xiao Jing is like that one elder brother who got held back by a grade. LOL.

No, that part is the same. But some stuff in ep 37 and all of 38 are combined, creatively made up to go with the drama flow.

The last episode is very interesting. I knew the writer was going to combine some stuff or add in things so the drama will make sense with some events in the novel, but I never expected that this would happened. I guess because it's the finale and so he wanted to go out with a bang lol. Not bad.

Which also mean S2 and onwards will not exactly follow the novel. So it'll might just be it's own standalone drama with elements of the novel.

Just from the novel, Wu Su (Feng Nian's Mother) is a female sword genius of the Wu family that the jianghu has not seen within 100 years. You get hints here and there that even grandmaster level like Sword God had some respect for her. Anyhow, since Xu Xiao is the grim reaper with 300,000 Beiliang cavalry, he is very fearsome. This season of the drama did not highlight the Beiliang cavalry enough, but they are EXTREMELY notorious and fearsome, that's why the Imperial family is so scared of Xu Xiao. They didn't want someone of his level and someone of her talent to produce a heir. At the time, the Court feared that one day Xu Xiao might rebel. Since when Xu Xiao was fighting for the Imperial family and conquered everything even his generals told him that if he wanted to be the Emperor, they are willing to match into the Imperial City.

Xu Xiao loved his wife, he wouldn't marries anyone else . So they took the chance and tried to assassinate Wu Su while she was in the capital. Xu Xiao really wanted to revenge, but Wu Su (she was injured very heavily) did not allow him, and Xu Xiao needs to think of the citizen too. There are no winners in war.

That's the reason why I think during episode 36- where they had a flash back of Xu Xiao in mourning clothes next to his wife's coffin, all the generals were ready to march in to the Imperial City. But then he looked back and saw young Feng Nian and Jiang Ni and he heard Jiang Ni said 'don't cry, you're better than me, at least you have family while I am alone'. I think at that moment Xu Xiao decided to nurture his son and raise him well, otherwise his son will bare the struggle of revenge at such a young age. He wanted him to grow up first.

The novel doesn't have ZRY 'writing' a novel to bypass restrictions. In the novel, he actually reincarnated into the baby's body. Wang Qi Nian has always been loyal to Fan Xian through out. Maybe you mixed it up with another character?

If you watch JOL, you wouldn't want to watch anything else. It's that good, IMO. Besides NIF, but that's 6 years ago.

I think it is the Empress Zhao. She kinda like Xu Xiao, jealous of Wu Su when they got together. She's the one who's trying to stop the Emperor from using Zhao Gou group to kill Feng Nian. I might be wrong. Although I don't think Feng Nian knows that it was the Empress who helped him. Eunuch Han is an enemy.

Xu Xiao is a heartbreaker back when he was young, like father like son.

I don't think anyone dies protecting Jiang Ni? Jiang Ni is with Cao Changqing, he's within the top 5 strongest. She will learn swords from Cao Changqing and Sword God. She can protect herself but she is usually in the Chu Imperial City, so she doesn't fight. Later she can control 100,000 swords, I stop reading after awhile so that's all I remember.

You are correct, although I am not sure if Xu Weixong is a daughter of a general or someone else. I just know she's not his biological daughter. I didn't want to write more because it might become too much of a big spoiler. But the chess master as in Li Yishan? He will pass away in season 2, while Feng Nian is on his adventure to the Northern territory.

Not sure, of course the adaptation might be different haha. They did changed some stuff so everythings up in the air~

He went on to become the Shu King. He broke off with Beiliang and left. He did not take any soldiers with him, but there were some who are willing to follow him. Xu Xiao didn't stop him because that's what he (CZB wanted) and Xu Xiao wanted to respect that. I think majority of his adopted sons are the sons of his fallen general, so he took care of them until now. I am not sure what the future holds for CZB, but at least I know for now he is not with Beiliang anymore.

Ah yes, he is the founder. When I say descendent I guess I meant there were other Zhao's before him i.e his father, grandfather etc. like how we are birthed by our parents and the parents before them. But taking a look at it now, I worded sounding like that fisherman is a youngster who is the descendant instead of the main person of the known Zhao royal family. You're right, Good catch.
