"ZYZ is a demon character and not even a Devine God, so in this case I expect him to be absolutely gray character or do chinese have a different definition of demon?"
Oh wait. Are you perchance defining "demon" by western standards? Did you start this drama hoping MC to be your favorite ruthless stoic type, just because he's born as a demon?
I love the ml. And to me it feels like the director and script writers really downplay his character a lot. Not…
True. He was trying to protect many people at the same time. He didn't want to choose one over the other.
Feels like only by the end he became their first priority. ZYC vowed to search for him no matter how far, and he left everything behind to go do that. So did WX when she left to protect his world. I loved them for that, tho. They were sitting there but all they both were thinking of, was ZY. It warmed my heart.

If we're gonna nitpick or be cruel to characters, I can do that. So long as actors don't get the hate, so nothing against TJR, of course.
Huge spoilers ahead.
ZYC did have more fighting skills than WX but she never caused as much trouble as him.
Why was Wen Xiao poisoned? She had to go save ZY from ZYC in a hurry. Because he went there to fight alone and unknowingly tried to turn ZY into Li Lun's puppet.
Then he broke his sword because he pushed it with a possessed Zhu Yan who was originally just sitting there minding his own business. Which later caused loads of trouble. As always, mostly for ZY to fix it.
Then he "persuaded" ZY to take out the ever burning flame, just because he believed the shady villain's words about an antidote. Not only did he not get an antidote, that decision ultimately led to BJ and ZY having to sacrifice their life.
Afaik this isn't xuanhuan. There's neither a divine god nor a devil god in this drama, and the wilderness isn't…
This is Xianxia, aka wuxia that has fantasy elements. There's demons and daoists and cultivators. There can be divine gods and devil god, but they're not part of this particular story. Edit: Well, except the original Goddess Baize I guess. But she was only mentioned once.
For instance, ZYZ isn't a demon god. He's a demon king, meaning most powerful demon. But he hasn't cultivated into becoming a god, as ZYC mentions once.
Xuanhuan, afaik, has western elements or at least sci-fi elements, like parallel worlds and stuff. Example: Soul Land series
Honestly I feel the same way. But I don't ship them either. What I feel makes their chemistry so strong is how…
I'd like to think I'm not arrogant but I can imagine if lived for 30K years I'd be able to manage my anger and hatred much better and see the world differently. Things like grudges and hatred would become petty little things. Longer lasting things like friendship and love would appeal more to me.
Besides, he's seen how much destruction the negative emotions in this world brings. He's constantly fighting it off. So it's only natural and wise that he won't add to it.
And as much as I'd love for him to massacre the entire Chongwu camp, he knows if he goes on a killing spree, those he cares about might suffer the consequences.

This series wouldn't even exist without the male lead lol And Neo's portrayal was so good he turned me from a lowkey hater to a fan. In fact, everyone in this drama upped their acting game noticeably.
Those who only have eyes for their favorite are the biggest threat to the world of art. This is why billing and screentime is such an issue in China. And this is why actors whose fans are troublesome have such a hard time getting roles and screentime. Because no one likes trouble.
Maybe try to stay away from dramas where your favorite isn't the main character. Trust me, it's healthier that way.
my only question, why was everyone dialogue a hush breathy whisper. did the director all ask them to do that.…
It's not whispers, just not loud. It's the vibe of the drama. This bunch of people have been through a lot for the past 8 years. They can't be be all loud and energetic. The younger ones are, tho
Your every criticism makes sense, except the acting. Not when this entire drama was saved mostly by the performances,…
Do you think we should tag our comments as spoiler? I feel like we're crowding this comment section.
βfeels like different directors were involved" Yes! This is exactly how I felt! Even some parts' vibes felt... disconnected. Idk how to explain it. One moment it was epic, next it lost me. I probably should read the novel to figure out why.
You mentioned the kid and for a moment I couldn't remember who you were talking about π I loved their parents-child dynamic, but yeah. He has a bit of a long way to go.
I totally agree. The ending of this is completely different from the novel. It makes sense, and (not sure if this can be counted as spoilery) I liked how it sort of created a loop.
But I didn't like how it undermined Shen Wei's power. I mean come on. If it were that easy to create a threat to the enforcer of the underworld, their world would've been destroyed long ago.
I haven't read the extra Priest wrote to tie the drama's ending to the story yet. So I can't say for sure that it can give you closure, if you decide to watch. But I suspect it does.

Ohh so that's why the graphics look a bit embarrassing at times. Such a shame.
LOL about the 3rd book. I get you. I've also never had trouble understanding any story, but that was a struggle. Shennong this, Nuwa that π It was to the point that when Nuwa was brought up in another drama (FOF I think?), it gave me a scare π
Ooh WoH. A certain episode, my God! I won't spoil you. Tbh, I kind of wasn't totally satisfied with the acting there (our taste in actors' performances are so different π ) But I admit. WoH was much better executed than this. I wish Guardian would've at least stayed faithful to the source.

Yeah. The novel's last chapters were pretty confusing. I'm still not sure what exactly happened in some parts.
Maybe it's because I read the book after watching this and I watched this not long after it aired, but the graphics didn't bother me that much. Specially since the chemistry often filled the entire scene.
I agree about special effects, this was probably low budget, cuz afaik danmei adaptations weren't a thing back then (or maybe it's something else I'm not aware of) The Dr. Who example was a good one wow, it actually does feel similar. Although the special effects in this remind me more of the 2005 series. I think saying it looks as old as classic Dr. Who, would be a bit of exaggeration π
Not sure about actors but I heard that Priest was dissatisfied with the ending. She wrote another extra for it.

Maybe you prefer the type of xianxia that stick more to the norm. Like Immortal Samsara?
