is this drama worth watching? How’s the romance between the leads??
Flourished Peony is worth watching! The romance is VERY slowburn. I love slowburn and so far, this is one of the best slowburns I’ve watched.

Title The Heir Spoiler
Sometimes it seems to me that the basis of my uncle's hostility is self-hatred for his own failures. I hope that…
Agree. He failed to protect his brother and family business. Who else can he hate and blame aside from the 8th branch. Athough I find his hostility towards the whole 8th branch annoying, I still feel for him. Looking back, his hostility is actually reasonable to an extent. Though I really find it annoying when he demands Li Zhen’s yeye to “take responsibility.”

Title The Heir Spoiler
I can’t stand Aunt Tian’s hypocrisy in episode 12. For someone who constantly tries to alienate the 8th branch family, she’s surprisingly quiet now that they need Li Zhen to reproduce the ink. Meanwhile, for Uncle Li, it has always been about the Li family and the ink itself. Li Zhen has proven her capabilities time and time again, so it’s not surprising that he’s more accepting of her now… at least for the moment.

There was a drama about Ming Dynasty that actually featured a lot of envoys from all around the world, notably…
Ahh now it makes more sense. I didn’t notice it here because all the NPCs were just regular people so I was intrigued by the “odd one out.” Thank you so much for this!

One thing I found interesting in these recent episodes is seeing more western and supposedly modern influences appear in the story. I don’t know much about the Ming Dynasty, so it’s interesting hearing Europe and Japan being mentioned, plus seeing a mixed-race red head character in the drama. Then again, they’re merchants involved in trade, so it does make sense.

I also couldn’t stop thinking about the use of ticks and crosses to mark the ink recipes. Was that actually common during the Ming Dynasty? It felt oddly modern every time it appeared.
