Thanks for your review. I enjoyed it and makes me want to continue though hesitant after episode 3.
You're welcome! I would suggest to try a few more episodes and if you still can't get into it, then don't force yourself. The main female's personality is not typically likeable as she internalizes everything and can be very frustrating lol so I totally understand that this drama may not be everyone's cup of tea!
Wow, I have not watched a drama with a smile on my face like this in a very long time! I had previously read a bit of this manga so I get the premise but to see it acted out in live action, it was wild but totally worked lol! Sato Kanta just gained another new fan. He is the only other male actor that got me smiling like crazy aside from Kang Ha Neul (in WTCB kdrama).
The first episode was a bit hard to get into as it was just so out there but after you're able to get through the first, the rest just flows by so amazingly well! Like most said, it's got one of the best, if not THE best, display of what a healthy relationship with open communication looks like. The side characters were supportive and helpful and just when you think there's going to be love rivals, they take the realistic approach and not the dramatic approach. I love it. It was so refreshing. As silly as some parts of this drama was, it was also one of the most realistic representation of real people's interaction, if that makes sense lol. It makes me so happy but also so sad to find happiness in finding a drama that is reflective of regular human logic. Dramaland (aka scriptwriters), do better!
This drama was a great short watch! Some of the scene cuts/editing can be done better but for such a short production, it did its job. I enjoyed it and was able to piece together certain scenes that should have been there to make it more smooth but had to use my imagination lol. Overall it's fine and I'd recommend it if you want something short and fluffy to watch :)
Okay the breakup in the last episode was totally unnecessary and nonsensical. They couldn't have continued to be together while she revived the business?? What....!? Lol. Unless something got lost in translation, this was one of the most illogical breakup I've seen in dramaland (and I have seen A LOT of dramas).
Very cute show! The tiny clip Netflix shows when you hover over it drew me in and I just finished watching 11 episodes, in one sitting! Too bad I can't put it under Currently Watching.....
I read the manga and I have to say, I'm quite satisfied with this live action movie adaptation! Obviously there are things left to be desired but overall, it captured the main points and visuals. I had very low expectations going in as the live actions usually never lives up lol but this time, I was pleasantly surprised! :)
Wow, I'm impressed that they made the last episode so exciting with the twist lol. They really impressed me there - especially the actor playing the emperor! I've seen him before here and there in other dramas but this is the first time his acting really stood out to me! Kudos to him, the emperor was great to watch the last few episodes~ Lol his acting was so great that it made a few other's acting look that much more inexperienced...
I really didn't see this twist coming and so after it was revealed, it made everything I was a bit unsure/questioning about while watching the beginning and middle of this drama make SO much more sense!!
Overall, this drama was definitely an enjoyable watch! Sweet ending, easily likeable mains and side characters! :)
It's been a while since I've came upon a drama that I can't stop watching the next episode! I can't quite put my finger on why that is lol. Honestly, there's nothing new this drama offers nor any twists or scenes that surprised me but I enjoyed most parts and just had to watch the next episode for some reason. There was something about this drama (maybe it was the actress, the chase, the height difference?). I can totally see what people were talking about in terms of the negative behaviours that the character of Qin Shen was showing though. I agree with them all except the hotel scene in the last episode. I don't see that as rape. I feel that based on what we (at least I) understand of the characters' set up, if Yuan Qian really didn't want to have sex with him, he would have stopped and ultimately respected her decision and not force it otherwise it would have definitely been rape. He's still a problematic boyfriend for sure in my eyes but in that specific scene, I would not call that rape. I was not comfortable with how frequently he goes for Yuan Qian's neck. Might be a personal thing but I once dated a guy that liked touching/stroking my neck and I did not like it at all. And the way he sets boundaries on how she can interact with Song Si Yi..... while on the one hand I can see why he'd do that (his insecurities) but on the other hand, I did not like how he had so little trust in YQ and himself that he had to set up those limits for her. It was sad.
I guess what I'm trying to say is overall, I did enjoy this drama lol. I mean I haven't felt that desire to watch one episode after another like the way I was with this drama for a while. There was just this weird pull! But I definitely felt uncomfortable and found myself shaking my head with some of QS's actions on YQ.
What a great, well-written article! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this :) Just like you, I enjoy watching these fluffy romantic c-dramas, feeling the tingles over certain scenes but at the end of the day, I often feel conflicted? On the one hand, I enjoy those scenes yet on the other hand, I can't tolerate some (most) of those scenes in real life. I tell myself it's the fascination of the opposite and it's a form of twisted escapism? Not sure what that says about me in all honesty lol but I really appreciate your article!
When this drama first came out, I chased after each episode like a person obsessed. Chinese dramas really don't have dramas with genres/plots like this. I would be on here reading comments and trading theories with other fellow current watchers as we all wait for new episodes to find out more. However, when we finally got to the highly anticipated concert (where the real Qian Yi would make her appearance on stage), it really fell through my expectations. I felt the build up to that event was more exciting than the actual event - even the trailer was more thrilling than the actual event. Since then, this drama just didn't have the same pull on me as it did at the beginning. Part of the disappointment also came from the exciting theories we'd come up with and then realizing it wasn't as deep or full of twists as we had thought. We really over estimated what this drama was going to do/show. It definitely is a very good thing they cut this drama short to 29. It honestly could have been 28 episodes (which I think is a better number than 29 lol).
I read that some people were disappointed with the ending but I honestly think it was the best ending possible in the situation they were in. The ending was what made me gave it that extra .5 point lol. If you really put yourself in their shoes, it makes total logical sense that You Ze and Xiao Dong didn't end up right away after he's out of jail. Lasting real relationship is built on trust and the way theirs started, it's going to take some time - especially because she has QY's face. If they had made a happy ending like the way some people wanted it, I would have lower my points for this drama because it just cheapens it all. So I'm glad they ended up with the ending like this - it's clear they're going to have a future together, just maybe not right this moment but it's going to happen in time. The ending helped save this drama for me.
Tomorrow's episodes (15 & 16) are going to be exciting!! Finally some confrontation will be happening! As thrilling as the mind games were, I can't wait to find out more information through their confrontation lol. And hopefully find out more about real QY. My theories keep changing and shifting as we learn bit by bit.
I feel the real QY and YZ has met already (when she was in the violin room and then they went walking with the dog) just that YZ doesn't believe it. And that thhe real QY knows about XD but XD doesn't know QY's back yet. And I realized the whole staging a show to find out about the dad/uncle thing was a misdirect the trailer threw at us - in reality (so far), it's planned by Ah Chao and XD/QY to expose YZ. Hope the "Color Gala" event will be as exciting as they're building it up to be!!
Theory based on the latest 2 eps:9 - I am 101% that the current qianyi is an impostor.10- and i change my mind…
After watching the most recent eps (11-12), we found out more answers which also leads to more questions haha. I feel like he just can't accept the fact that the real QY wants to leave him so he's desperate. I'm sure at some point during their relationship, he really did love her which lead to being obsessed with her and so it's devastating to him that she wants to leave him. His mind was not in a well place for sure and so when the opportunity to "recreate" a possible new future, he took it - planned and manipulated with his money and power. He just wanted the facade it seems because he still mourns the real QY (because he assumes after half a year no signs means she's dead which was why he drank like a maniac). Of course, the fake QY has her own personality and with his obsession's face, I can see how he might end up really falling for her. I don't know, just speculating here lol.
I look forward to real QY coming back - I want to know what she went through (like if she was in a coma, how come the investigator haven't found her??).
The latter part of ep 12 was definitely thrilling for me to watch. "Two can play this game" came to my mind as I was watching it haha. Love it!
Yup, he must have - just not sure how he did it, but he did. I feel like there's no "bad" characters - at least…
That's a good point, their relationship was also not a healthy one. It was not an equal relationship for sure. He just can't let go, like YZ except the way QF's character is written, it's not likeable at all to me.
I'm suspicious of the doctor too although I don't think he's Mr. Lavender. I mean when she met up with Qi Fan,…
Ooh I like your theory! When you explain it like that, I can see that as a possibility too! That he's lying about what the telescope is for and he actually is Mr. Lavender but suspects that the current QY is not the one he knows. He's smooth lol - a totally good match to the "charming" regal real QY. He's keen to help her and "be her friend" because he wants to find the truth, find out what happened to the real QY. He is definitely a much suitable match for the real QY than QF. Maybe they had a past or history or something... or he just taken a stalkery liking to the real QY? I also definitely like him better as a second lead and female lead's love interest haha. I feel for QF, I do but he's getting on my nerves lol...
Yup, he must have - just not sure how he did it, but he did. I feel like there's no "bad" characters - at least…
Yes, I love grey characters! They are so much more interesting to watch/discuss/dissect than "pure" good characters lol. I also find myself rooting for him but I think we're suppose to as he is the ML of this drama! Also, he is written to be likeable I think and on some levels, relatable, despite his unhealthy means to an end to obtain something. Qi Fan on the other hand is getting annoying... I mean I feel for him, I do but because I feel a stronger tie to the main couple that his reluctance to move on is starting to drag...

We are definitely near the halfway point! I agree, c-dramas have mostly been romcom or slice of life recently and this is the first c-drama in a long time that I've watched where I'm playing detective haha. I definitely missed this! I also hope the reveal (the truth) and how they play it out won't disappoint!

Hahaha I do love playing detective for intriguing dramas ðŸ¤
I remember being confused first 2 times I watched the trailer lol but after these 10 eps, it's starting to make more sense! But yeah, from what YZ explained to new QY on how his parents died and why his relationship with his sister wasn't great, they died from car accident... So maybe later on he finds out the car accident was not an accident at all and was orchestrated by his uncle? I'm not sure how he could orchestrate a fake QY so I think it's just everyone's secret and hidden agenda coincidentally coincides and "works out"? Lol
