Had Mol been less possessive, it would have had a different ending. But an altogether less possessive mother could…
If Mol had been less possessive, In would have found some other self-justification and it would have made no difference. Wang in the end was the sole decider for what was best for him. He went home not because Mol wanted him to but because In was incapable of grabbing the lifeline Wang had extended to him and he saw no benefit in forcing him.
The story is about Wang, and his journey of self-discovery, and now he's stronger and wiser and knows who he is, and he will live a fulfilled and happy life.
In was broken when we met him, and unable to overcome his trauma, but we knew that would be the case from the beginning, so I'm happy he and Mol didn't drag Wang down with them.
The bridge metaphor wasn't subtle. When Wang made him cross it he got injured.
I don't think In would have regardless of Mol. He wouldn't do it even when they were alone. The point is he can't…
I think that's an excellent analysis, but you're being a little hard on In. This was quite some time ago, and awareness of gay rights has progressed so far and so fast that it's hard to imagine a time when you just couldn't be gay, but that's how it was not that long ago. Even in liberal areas of the USA the idea of gay marriage seemed impossble 25 years ago, and before the internet, it was hard to even understand what your feelings were. I had the vague idea that gay meant flamboyant and dressing like a woman, and I thought I was just really, really, really close to a couple of my male friends, and that "love" was just bland and uninteresting like it was with my girlfriend - maybe I wasn't capable of love or something. And in a less individualistic culture like Thailand, it would be even worse.
He could have reached for the lifeline Wang threw him, but don't forget that this whole story took place over a few days - it's a slam dunk for Wang at his age, but in your 40s you don't just shack up with a 20-year old you just met - who also happens to be the son of your best friend and the man you were in love with and are still traumatized by the loss of.
There is closure and it's not a sad ending, but it is not something to watch if you're feeling depressed, especially…
In the end it it Wang who decides what's best for himself, not In or Mol. The reason for it being harder to watch for someone over 40 is that In's choices are too relatable and we think of all our missed opportunities and how those can never be regained, whereas a younger person has time to seize new opportunities.
Regarding the title, 180 degrees longitude is the international date line, so it's a different day on one side of it than it is the other. Also, 180 degrees apart is means being on opposite sides of the planet (there are 360 degrees of longitude). That might have been a clue.
Just finished crying because I feel so bad for In. I disagreed with Wang, I think that In could have eventually…
I see it largely that way, but most people are like In, so if he became like Wang it would defat the message of the show and just become a simple romance. Also, he did say the "L" word with the hug, which is a way Wang gave him of saying it to get around his shame.
I don't think Mol was much of a factor at all. Wang did what he did because of In's choic, not because of what Mol wanted.
I cant't even get into how much I absolutely loved this or I'd be here all day. Also, too soon. Just, too soon.…
There are 360 degrees of longitude, so 180 degrees from the starting point would be on the opposite side of the planet, but probably more meaningful, it's the international date line, so it's a different day on either side.
If you're flying from China to the US, you arrive before you left.
Great review, but there weren't any coincidences - Wang deliberately went there because he wanted to meet In. Well, the bridge fall was a bit contrived, but at least it didn't lead to an accidental kiss.
Well, sexy stuff. Just having someone inches away from your face after vomiting is disgusting. Someone threw up in the elevator lobby on my floor of the hotel I'm staying in, and even after really thorough cleaning, it smells so bad that I have no appetite. He would aslo have splashed his shoes and trousers.
I do give them points for not having them kiss. That would make me heave.
Every episode seems to just be people drinking until they vomit then having sex wihout brushing their teeth first.
This series is so relentlessly unpleasant that it's kind of unwatchable. I don't mind the sleeping around, open relationships, and cheating, but there needs to be something fun about the series. Instead there's just drunk vomit sex.
I like the cinematography & color ediing, but it just adds to h bleakness of the series.
Why are people in BLs never able to drink anything without vomiting? Every once in a while, maybe, but if you vomit everytime you drink you're an alcoholic and need help. I'm guessing BL writers mostly hole up with their cats in their apartments and don't really know what bars are like. At least judging by that dancing scene.
Note to BL: Hair does actually dry on its own, you know. Writers seem to think it will stay wet forever unless a seme dries it for you.
Also, fem-shaming is not actually necessary. I know you think it is, but it isn't. That scene served absolutely no plot purpose but to be contemptuous of an effeminate man.
That was fanastic. It might have been better if the ending had been similar but not random, i.e. a problem with a client, but the theme and the acting were powerful - Klong is a real gem.
I just pushed through this to catch up, and I find I love everything about Khan and Thua - their story has depth and subtlety, and isn't always what it seems to be, like Thua's step-father, who seemed like he might be abusive, but he's not at all. Neo is a top-tier actor and Louis is doing a great job as a shy and literal but not weak person. I can't get enough.
But I don't even bother to watch Akk & Ayan's scenes anymore - the first few seconds of each is all I need to keep track because their scenes are entirely predictable and repetitive. When Akk looks at the photo of Ayan kissing him, I would have bet the life of my mother that Ayan would show up at just that second, so why watch? Etc. It's boring and I don't care about the story. I've always really liked First, but this role isn't giving him room to shine. It's that same deer-in-the-hearlights longing followed by gay panic, rinse, and repeat. Plus Ayan has become creepy, pushing himself on Akk constantly. If Akk were a girl it would come off as rapey, and it's no better here. If Akk is having trouble accepting his sexuality, then treating him like that is abusive bullying.
The whole story is totally dependent on people conveniently showing up, overhearing, accidentally falling on and other contrived events, which is the worst kind of lazy writing.
