He himself said he wouldn't do another BL unless he was old and needed money. You can look it up. So yea he can…
So people aren''t allowed to crack jokes?
I doubt it's very pleasant to be a BL actor - you get paid almost nothing, you're stuck with one acting partner forever, and you have to go to dozens of fanmeets where you have to pretend to be into someone you're not into and get pawed and screeched at by rabid fujoshis. And let's be honest - BLs are formulaic and probably not very interesting as an acting job.
He's obviously more interested in serious projects, which is why he wrote, directed, and produced The Yearbook and is now directing this.
Not wanting to be a BL actor isn't the same thing as being a homophobe. I wouldn't act in a BL if you threated to shoot my mother. Am I a homophobe?
was smiling in excitement until i saw mean in the cast...
Mean is directing this, and he wrote and produced & directed The Yearbook, meaning he sunk his own money into it, so I don't understand why everyone is so hostile to him.
Lol the comments below about Mean. I don't get why these actors announce their leaving bl, won't act in a bl drama…
Well, this is the second BL he's directed, so he clearly doesn't have a problem with the genre. Maybe he didn't want to get chained for life to one other actor, which is what BL fans do to people, and maybe he doesn't enjoy all the fan service. Can you imagine how hellish that would be for an introvert?
So I read this comment before starting on the 10th episode and even though I knew it was coming, I myself still…
Thanks. Maybe that's why they didn't exploit him for his body as much as one might expect. I wouldn't have gotten that tattoo if I were him - some people might find it offensive in the current environment.
I've seen it happen more and more often in the comments tbh. People have really started hate watching and hate…
I think maybe it's the case that context-less critical comments stick out more than others. Scanning down, there are some negative statements like you describe, but the majorty seem to be specific, like the slow pace and Duean Yi's self-absorbed whininess.
The other thing is that while there are some people that like this, I think a fairly decent majority think it's one of the worse BLs of all time (and many are only sticking with it as fans of specific actors), and I'm almost but not quite in that category - it's too bland an mediocre to be terrible - whereas if you go somewhere like 180 Degree Longitude, you'll find 99% positive comments. Maybe higher.
For me personally, I'm way more lenient on small productions, and also, I'd prefer a series that has flaws but you can feel the love an passion that went into it.

Yes, I have a large department to manage of 20-somethings, so I'm aware. But this isn't teaching, it's discussing. It's a site where we review things, and if something is bad and we do nothing but praise it, that's dishonest and misleads people. But I do think people should explain why they think something is bad - just a negative comment without context is not helpful to anyone.

That's fair. But when it comes to people who get upset at negative comments, I haven't seen much distinction made - there's one person - I can't remember her name, who follows me around to personally attack me for being a horrible person if I have anything to say about anything that isn't praise, because somehow it traumatizes her.
I'm guessing it's BTS. Otherwise I suppose they could break up again for no apparent reason and then get back…
The editing was strange and felt unfinished. The was DY moved abroad and then was suddenly back in a few seconds was abrupt and unintentionally funny. The episode didn't even really end, it just... stopped.
Well, that was an appropriate ending for the series - dull and edited by someone with really serious ADHD. I don't understand what the point was of DY going abroad if he was going to be back in less than five seconds. Also, that was a pretty anemic greeting after being apart for... well, I'm not sure - 5 seconds? A year? No clue.
So for the theme of the show, the coffee part was ably handled. But the music... I get it, a BL actor isn't likely to be a songwriter, and not all of them will have musical skills, but come on. It's not just that none of the cast seemed to have aptitude as a musician, but when music was playing it was always out of balance, either drowning out the dialog or being too soft to hear. And why do they keep playing Christmas carols? Pavel finally took his shirt off and I was distracted by the easy-jazz piano rendition of Angels We Have Heard on HIgh playing in the backgroud. I felt like I was in an elevator at a department store in December.
I guess I'm at a loss to understand what the point of this was. What did it have to say? I suppose I'd prefer nothing happening to one of those GMM-standard manufactured implausible miscommunication crises, but this was a bag of tropes and little else.
A good sign of love being poured into a series is an attention to detail - like the way shots are framed in 180 Degrees, giving a character an interesting and personal sense of style. Here, I felt the love for coffee, but the rest felt like people just showing up for work.
I was excited that Pavel was finally getting a role, and I hope this doesn't damage his chances of getting another one.

Isn't it insulting the intelligence of everyone else if you don't think they can't develop their own opinions? I don't think people are swayed by the first thing they read, almost everyone watches a few eps before making a decision on whether or not to continue.
If I'm reading here before watching something, I can get turned off to it, but only because of qualities or themes of the series that don't interest me, and even then, I would have watched the preview like almost everyone else and had a preconceived notion from that.
And I don't see how someone else's opnion can force you to enjoy something with a "heavy heart" You like it, or you don't like it. Whether or not someone else likes it is immaterial. The purpose of a discussion board is to, well, discuss. This isn't a classroom, and none of us have a responsibility to be a good teacher.
I would agree that a comment like "This sucks and Benz is ugly" is just mean-spirited and unnecessary, but something like "how can a series about music constantly get the volume balance wrong?" is perfectly legitimate.
If I was crappy at something and people only gave me positive feedback, I'd just continue to do it crappy forever. Criticism is a opportunity for improvement and shouuld be viewed as gift.
She's devoted her life to her son and everything she's done has been for him. I don't see what's wrong with that.…
I think you're making solid points, but are a bit harsh on her. Not all mothers are narcissists like her, but I think almost all mothers want what's best for their children and aren't great at distinguishing what they think is best and what their child does. Especially when their children are entering into adulthood and capable of making their own decisions. The thing is, when you're older you've made a lot of mistakes and it's hard to watch your kid making those same mistakes. On the other hand, we've all been that age and didn't listen to our parents and could have avoided some hardship if we had, so you should know your child has to make mistakes to learn and grow.
I don't see her blaming people for anything, and she seems fairly open about her life being good - but obviously lonely. It isn't really her fault that she was set up in marriage to a repressed gay man - she's also been badly hurt by that catastrophe and it's hard to see how she could have avoided it, and Wang was in the wrong in the fight they had, and she directly told him how it made her feel, which is admirably open and honest.
The OTT persona she's developed to hide her pain and loneliness can get tiresome, for sure, but she's not a 2D villainess.

But you're right, he'd be accused of sexual harassment through rape-hugging.
