As always, a great episode. First off, Leon, I love this guy. He's just too funny. But that's not how you win…
Yeah - they have decent chemistry as overall, but none sexually. I was actually uncomfortable watching that scene and I'm usually the one who really wants the sex in my BL. Also, metal feels terrible in your mouth.
Leo said "I can't hold back anymore" - and then kissed his hand. There needed to be some clothes ripping off in this scene (especially Fiat's, because WTF was that shirt?).
So this time we had flashbacks that were actually within flashbacks. It was good to get Phob's POV, but I've now seen several of those scenes so many times that I have a hard time connecting to them, and I'm less moved by this ep than I was by the first few, which are the only ones in which anything happened.
I understand why this episode had this format - it's consistent with Phob's character to only be able to express himself in writing, but it feels a little like it's a tad late - are we to believe Nut never read the letters until now?
Also, we're spending a huge amount of time watching people stare at things and replay the past in their heads over and over - it would be nice to have interaction between the characters, because the acting is wonderful and these two are great together. Ep 6 was a little tedious, but it at least felt like a necessary setup - this one was probably needed too, but shorter and earlier. Wouldn't this have given greater poignancy to Phob's impending operation?
I generally like the way scenes are allowed to breathe and develop as they play out - but not in flashbacks. Those could really be in shorthand. Remember how in the 6th Sense they covered the entire movie in about 10 seconds and how effective that was? You couldn't do it that fast here, but that's what I mean by shorthand. We didn't really need the entire thing to be narrated - Man is perfectly capable of expressing subtle feelings in his acting. And those were the only times where I was moved. I think eps 6 & 7 could have fit in one ep and been more effective for it.
Also, would you repeatedly flash back to walking down a corridor in high school when you just had sex for the first time, with the man you're in love with? Did they even have sex? I'm starting to wonder. This feels more like a bromance than a romance, other than a couple of chaste kisses.
I guess I won't have to worry about glacial pacing next ep, as they have to stuff 16 years into 40 minutes.
This is really good so far (2 eps in). It's sort of a BL mystery - it's told in a non-linear way, so you really don't understand what's going on at first, and pieces are gradually filled in. It's not going to be for everyone, but it's well-acted and written, and has lots of hot boys in it, so I'm happy.
I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I actually felt like First did really well in TharnType Season 2. Fiat…
Fiat is appealing as a bad-boy, not a cry-baby. Hopefully First will be given something to do at some point.
I think the crying is annoying because it usually doesn't really fit what's going on, and the problems he's crying about are all very easily solved with a brief conversation.
Also, he's gone from being a guy to a 12-year old girl. It just isn't credible that a sexually (very) experienced grown man would be that shy around someone he's known his entire life. If you've badly wanted someone for that long, when you finally get them, you're going to have crazed monkey sex for a week without getting out of bed except to pee (and even then you'll probably have him hold it for you), not suddenly turn into a pre-teen virgin. It would make more sense for Leo to be the shy one, since he's not experienced at all, but some BL writers are unable to conceive of a m/m relationship outside a strict seme/uke structure.
I'm not bothered by the fantasy/fairy tale nature of BL, even if there are plot elements that are outrightly supernatural - but people still have to act like people, or it doesn't work.
Cant watch.. Half of the series is focusing on trans harrasing boys weired makeup.. I really got a headache going…
You made it through 3.5 more episodes than I could stomach. The transphobia was so awful it made me sick. It feels like this was made by some alt-right anti-LGBTQ+ organization.
I read the manga after watching this. The basic story is the same, but it's quite different and more shallow. Yamato is gigantic. And ginger, for some reason. The thing that happens when Yamato is asleep is so much more heart-stopping in the film.
Anyway, the movie adds the father into the story - in the Manga he's a shadowy background figure and that whole thread of the story isn't very important. Also, I liked the way the movie is almost entirely from Mitsuomi's POV - I think it works better with us not really knowing what's going on in Yamato's head. In the manga, we read his thoughts from the beginning. Also, maybe I'm just not used to it, but the manga was really confusing to read, even after I got into the left-to-right flow.
This was filmed beautifully and I love the relationship-building Mitsuomi does with his father, but I wish we…
It's funny - you know how I am, and I was thinking about whether or not I would have put in the last kissing scene - I think maybe just a short lip-touch to mirror the earlier one might have been better. But I will stay true to form and say I wish the camera had lingered bit more in the bath scene.
Anyway, I loved this - beautifully filmed, tight and effective writing. it's about all I could ask for. I'm not sure there would have been enough story for a full-length series. Maybe 6 30 minute eps.
Daaaaaaamn I was excited to start this now I don’t know… everyone is really hating on this 😳
It's terrible. If it were like So Much In Love which was a glorious mess, I might recommend it, but this is a long, boring disaster with no resolution. I'd rather have two totally unreleated ghost plotlines and an evil principal trying to destroy a volleyball team - at least the stories were resolved. These ended up at the worst Christmas part of all time and then just lept off a cliff.
Why does everyone hate this show? It's about 5 couples with very different relationship backgrounds. With all…
Becasuse it was pretty good at first, then began a long downhill slide and then jumped off a cliff the last 3 episodes. So It started at about an 8.5, and ended a 2.
The subs are up. I think it's funny, if it's satire.
I'm pretty sure it's satire because of the checklist to prove gayness, with 5 ridiculous stereotypes and concluding with "#6: his significant other is a guy." The boys' gay panic while they're cuddling in bed and showering together seems to point in the satire direction as well.
have watched the first two episodes. So far just some casual colourism and homophobic tropes.
I know it seems like that, but it's really satire - the message is that stereotyping is stupid. That's why the "checklist of proofs that he's gay" were 5 dumb reasons, and #6 was "his signigicant other is a man." Or that the two guys while being in a gay panic over the nephew sleep cuddled, shower together, etc.
I agree with your points, the speech, the not focuse on Marco and Bas romance, the acting... yes. But for me,…
I agree with you on that - it's hard to view them positively after that and it was the wrong message. There was a lot wrong with this, but it wasn't because of lack of attention to romance - people that are complaining about that are missing the point, even if the series did itself on the issue you mention.
That was cute. Chahub looks like he was grown in a vat, but he was good at being seductive. They definitely had chemistry, and it was refreshing to see something other than enemies to lovers, although I like that trope.
I was surprised at how sensual their interaction was - and I never thought I'd see a foreign beer brand as a BL sponsor, but it does explain the smoking.
One thing, though - that female employee was excruciating - I almost stopped watching it was so painful. And I'm a bit nervous that the plot will involve Nine's evil gf - I'm not sure I'd be interested if that's the case.
Since that was the whole point of the series, that's the only thing it needed to get right.
Well, they did expose Tee in public and he went running off, then wasn't around forthe shoot, so the impliction is that they're free of him.
People like him are rarely brought to justice - and in the "real life" the story is based on, nobody has suffered any punishment for anything - the production company is rolling on and making more BLs.
The point was for individuals to stick up for each other and for what is right, or to provide a fantasy happy ending where there wasn't one.
My issue with the ending was Marco cruelly ambushed his friends like that. That was seriously uncool.
